Legends have it that the King and Queen who created the treaty hated each other too much, that they began to erase their people's knowledge about the existence of the other race to avoid the next generation from getting too curious and attempting to cross the portals again. Both the rulers believed that not knowing each other's existence will be the best way for the two races to stop the wars between them. And this was why the dark faes, except the kings know nothing about the Light Faes."
