100% The Cold Flames / Chapter 169: Yesteryear's Tragedy

章節 169: Yesteryear's Tragedy

Oh! Mi'lady, let me help you with that." a maid hastily took the cup from Vivi's hands when she saw Vivi trying to fetch water.

At first Vivi didn't take such things into considerations at all. She knew they felt her hurting and wanted to do anything to elevate her pain. And the best way they came up with was to not let her do almost anything.

Nowadays, whenever Vivi moved in the mansion she wasn't allowed to do any single thing. Stressful or not. It has been two weeks since the burial yet her servants were still treating her like a child. When she brought this up with her friend, Elsa, she learned that Elsa wasn't receiving any such treatment.

It was becoming tiring!

Also, in this two weeks Ben had learned a lot too. Mia eventually told Ben of what happened in some part of Moonlight. Ben had called for the gathering with Mia and the two burly men, Ander and Mullin.

"Mia, I think I must have put on hold your matter for a long time. Why don't we discuss it after dinner?" Ben asked when he felt this discussion has been long overdue.

"Thanks Ben, but..." Mia was glad when he brought the topic up but stopped midway.

"What is it?" Ben saw this and asked.

"I'd like both Ander and Mullin to be present there. They've been off great help to me ever since." Mia finished her words looking at Ben. He knew she must have her reason to say so.

"I don't think that should be a problem since you asked. You'd have to ask them though."

"Don't worry about it, we'll yeah asking if you're alright with it if course." Mullin answered before Mia could.

Once they were done with their meals been led them to his study at the east side of the mansion. It looked like every typical study a building that could house a study looked like. But, unlike those studies, this one was packed with 'literally' ancient books and texts.

Of course, there were a few modern books too. And all those 'old' books weren't that important to begin with.

This was one of the few rooms that had any magical equipment. It was lit with lanterns posted by red Elemental Crystals!

"Mia, I know that something big must have happened back at home. You have been on edge ever since you met me. What's the matter? Tell me" Ben started.

They all followed Ben and sat on the arranged couches at the side. Ben have them a few moments to take in what was before their eyes, even though they weren't anything too valuable.

Mia thought for a while before starting, she wondered where she'd begin her takes from. "Ben, you remember the Wicked-god believers, right?" She asked.

"Of course, I do. What about them?" Ben asked not knowing what those people had to do with her.

"They attacked Moonlight kingdom."

"What? How's that possible?" Ben was shocked about such a revelation. He suddenly pressed for answered.

"It was sudden. Moonlight kingdom was attacked in one night resulting to one-third of the kingdom to fall." Mia's every word was like a knife to his heart.

'Why? Just why?' Ben thought inwardly. "Hahaha," Ben's sudden burst of laughter took them by surprise. Didn't he hear his home kingdom was attacked? "Why can't I just live a free life after coming here?" Ben mumbled these words but they were still heard by the people before him.

When the three in the room heard this they greatly misunderstood what he meant. They thought that he was complaining about his situation after 'coming' to Nalazi. But, how wrong they were. They didn't know that the 'Ben' before them was a transmigrator from another world. He only wanted to live a peaceful life and study the ways of a Spellcaster, and possibly become a wizard.

After he mumbled, he rested his elbow on his knee and laced his fingers together. "What about Caroline City?" His expression was stoic with a small frown.

"We were the first to be attached. We requested backup from neighboring Lords..." when she got to this point she paused. There was a mixture of emotions that flashed in her eyes. "... That was when we learned that the attack was spontaneous and... And a few nobles and upper crust defected."

""What?"" This time, even the two elders were shocked.

What does it mean for nobles to defect? Something not only grave but foundation shattering.

"Yes, many of them. The worse part was, we were completely overwhelmed." Mia continued describing the past.

"Isn't that a little exaggerated? First, a third of the fourth largest kingdom in the continent fell in one night and secondly; the defenders were overwhelmed. Even if that was the case wouldn't the Magic Association and Hunter's Guild aid them?" Ander immediately expressed his doubt. He, of course wasn't the only one doubting.

"That would have been the case if we were up against fellow humans. But when attacks were less by not only Commander-level demon creature but a few Ruler-level ones too, and were controlled by people to kill anything that moves. Then tell me, will there be any way to avoid confrontation. We are unprepared and sparsely equipped." When Mia recalled the scene back at her home town.

The way the lowest level of demon creature tore children apart like bread, their helpless cries for help. The defending soldiers were in despair. Not only did they have to save the people, but they also had to save themselves too. They realized that it was a well organized and coordinated attack. Servant-level demon creatures would attack the normies and if any soldier wanted to help that would be when Warrior-level demon creature would step in.

They had a clear goal. Don't let them save the people.

This drove the soldiers to the brink of madness. Which in turn made them burn their energy faster and uselessly. One of the soldiers when seeing his entire family being slaughtered like lamb by Servant-level Colossal eye demon rats he was consumed with rage. And in his fit of rage he exploded his Elemental Seed. Bringing with him tens of demon creatures with him. Even the Warrior-level demon creature that was sent after him.

What was the use in living if everything he's built was suddenly taken away from him in the midst brutal way possible? And the most infuriating part of it was, he couldn't even do anything about it. He would rather die.

This scene wasn't there only one that night. Many sacrificed their lives out of regret and despair, while many simply lost the will to fight anymore. This made it very much easier for the invaders to press on, and a lot harder for the defenders. The numbers that was caught in the crossfire wasn't small either.

"Hiss!" Everyone sucked in a breath of cold air.

An army of demon creature was indeed aggravating and exasperating to say the least.

"Do you, by any chance, know who led the attack in our side?" Ben calmed his heartbeat when he heard Mia's narration then asked.

"During the battle, we saw a charge of Commander-level demon creatures heading towards the Manor. I witness it since I was stationed there. It was the vice president of the Senbo bank."

If the memories of the prescious 'Ben' serves him right, he has met the children of this bank vice president in a ball once. Two daughters and a son. They were your typical spoilt children who looked down on the poor and weak especial the son. His first daughter wasn't far behind her brother despising others. Only his last daughter was a little less condescending on others.

In other words, they were a bunch of useless kids. One could say it was even a chip off the old block... More like a section out of the wall, since they all took after their father. Daunting and contemptible to others of lesser standing.

"Commander-level demon creatures? Why would they need so much?" Mullin asked puzzled.

"It's because of my father." Answered Ben. And it certainly wasn't a lie.

"Why do you say so Ben?" Ander couldn't understand fully how it was related.

"His father is the strongest Elemental Swordsman in our duchy but because of his various disagreements with other higher officials, he has been stuck in the position of 'Lord'." Mia replied. They came up with this conclusion after the soldiers not only heard the Senbo bank vice president say it, but also in Sir Williams actions of handling 4 Commander-level demon creatures all by himself.
