章節 131: Butler

"Oda!" Vivi lightly calls for someone as she sat behind her desk.

"Yes, Mi'lady." A warrior came through the double large doors.

"Call me Brewer, will you?" With a bow the warrior left. With that she went back to her paper work. Five minutes later a knock came from the door. "Come in."

"You called for me Mi'lady." A middle-aged man past his forties stood before Vivi.

"Yes I did. Tell me Brewer, what made you work for us in this mansion owned by three youths?..." And so for the next two hours Vivi will be finding out about this man, Brewer.

That night during dinner...

Ben, Stephan and Vivi sat round the dinning table as all sorts of dishes we're plastered about. If one didn't know better, one would think they were royalty.

"So Vivi, what'd you want to discuss with us?" Ben asked after chewing a nicely cut piece of beef.

Taking a sip of wine she spoke. "I've found a suitable person to be our butler."

"Oh really? That's great." Stephan exclaimed with joy. "Who is it?" He asked.

"You all must have heard of this person though. So I believe you'll find him suitable." Vivi said wit a proud smile. "You should know Brewer, right? He has a decent background, knows must of the high class citizens and other prominent people in neighboring counties, so yeah he is very responsible."

"Where had he worked before working for us?" Ben asked all of a sudden.

"Hmm? He did say he had worked for some of the council men before us, councilman Y'vol and oh my God, how could I have let such little detail pass me by..." Vivi quickly exclaimed as she found out her mistake.

"Y'vol? Isn't that one of those pricks trying to pressure us to sell The Golden Heart to some wealthy merchant?" Stephan asked when he realized who there were about to cross paths with.

"No need to worry too much about it. Let us see how this man is suitable or if he is a spy sent by those councilmen he had worked for, shall we?" Ben motioned the maid by their table to call for the man in question.

"Greetings master Ben, Mi'lady, master Stephan." Brewer arrived at the dinning hall and bowed respectfully. Ben gave a small nod to acknowledge his greeting.

"I hear that you've worked for us since the establishment of this estate, is that true?"

"Yes, master Ben." Brewer answered.

"And what do you do here?" Ben gently wrapped his Mindpower on Brewer unknowingly to the latter.

"I work as the head of records keeping, sir. Every item that goes in or out of the mansion must go through me to be recorded."

"Oh, so you are learned? Where did you learn to read and write? From what I know your father worked as a farmer in south Nalazi and your mother a seamstress. Both occupations cannot guarantee you any form of education."

"My parents had sold me to become a servant at councilhman Y'vol's estate. With hard work and determination I was able to learn how to read and write as I was sent to keep an arrange the books he owned. And as a man of the law, he has a lot of books." The more Brewer answered the more confident he grew.

Ben knew from experience how good a lier could be when lying, that was why he wrapped his Mindpower on the man, that way, even if he didn't stutter when lying his heart beat would certainly accelerate and by then his Mindpower would have detected it.

"Why did you leave. I see you must have been doing well there, so why leave?"

"I...," Brewer looked at the floor, his eye shinning with hatred and disgust. "...I left because at first I thought he wanted me to sleep with him in the same room, back then I had the notion that maybe he was afraid of the dark or something so I agreed but I slept on the floor. At the time I was only about fourteen, I didn't see anything wrong with it, in fact, I had thought he had gained my trust for him to let me stay so close to him. Five years past and all went well, I was given special previlages like I could dine together with and the rest. But that all came crashing one day when I woke to relieve myself at the middle of night only to see before Y'vol masturbating right in front of me. That was when all hell broke loose. Throughout the week he didn't call me to his room like always, when the weekend began he called for me, but at the time he was drunk... Very drunk. He tried forcing me to join him in bed, I refused to it. He tried many times, tried to approach me countless time..." Brewer was becoming emotionally unsettled.

"So you left?" Ben completed the sentence for him.

After a short while Brewer was able to keep his emotions in check. "Yes. I went back to my family's house and hid. I got to find out that Y'vol sent out a search for my arrest, on what charge I do not know. I would say it was a good thing my parents had dies two years back. At least with that I wasn't worried of anyone going to threaten me or blackmail me."

"So where have you been hiding throughout the search for your head?" Stephan looking into the narrative asked even though all the information was already in Vivi's hands.

"When I couldn't remain in my family house because I was ratted out by a neighbour of ours I went to work for his rival in court, however, after three years he mysteriously died. I knew it was Y'vol's doing, so I was forced to do some petty business to survive outside the scope of his search."

"As far as I am concerned I don't think this can even be classified as being outside his scope. I mean, we practically live in a city were he makes certain rules, what makes you confident that we could protect you when Y'vol comes knocking at our door saying we are harboring a fugitive?" Ben's eyes gazed intently the man. His Mindpower circulating around him to monitor his every move... Or move he doesn't make.

"Then I'll have to use my last breath to expose the filth who brings to the lives of all those young boys only trying to survive to eternal trauma. I'll do it even if it's the last thing I'll do." Brewer's eyes burned with great determination and conviction.

"Hmm," Ben had used one of the commonly known and taught arcane spells known in The Phantom and he used it on Brewer. This was to allow the target to have a calm mindset no matter what they were asked. However, if the situation in the world is in turmoil the target wouldn't be affected that much by the spell. Or, if the target should have a stronger Mindpower than the caster then the spell won't work. "I can see your determination and conviction is as bright as day. I want to believe that i can help you in one way or another. What do you say?" Ben looked at Brewer deep in the eye yet the latter looked confused. "I want you to become our new butler."

It was as though a large metal box spontaneously fell on the ground startling the man before greatly. The news was just too shocking. How could someone who only runs to other powerful people to protect himself from a gay councilman, someone powerful politically that is able to kill someone and still come out righteous.
