"What did you say?"
It wasn't known who had said it, but these four words spoke the mind of more than a dozen people. To them it sounded like someone told them to walk without legs. Was that even possible?!?! The answer is very simple, No!
"I said don't use Mindpower. You can try if you want, but I advise you do not." Ben spoke again.
He knew perfectly well what he was asking these old geezers to do. It is like asking them to breath with both their nose and mouth shut. To them, Mindpower is everything.
"Ben, what do you mean we shouldn't use Mindpower?" alchemist Erin looked at the young man in front of him with trepidation. Before him was a walking Surprise Bomb, almost all the things he does up until now still surprises him.
Ben looked at Elder Nes and the rest of the Elders saying, "I only want an answer and the school has given me Her word for it." then he said to the alchemist, "Doing that will not end well. If you still doubt, which is understandable, better have a second set of equipments ready."
...
Ben is back to his normal routine where he only attends the classes he wants to. He wakes up very early every morning only to see Pudding walking back into the tower once the sun starts to rise.
One week has passed after he was summoned by the council meeting. And since then he hasn't heard from the school about their progress in the potions, he haven't started having Contribution Points pouring down his ring. So it means one thing... they are still in doubt.
Along the way of Ben's daily routinely boring life he had a few interesting encounters.
Tomorrow will be one of the many practicals they have been having. However, unlike other elements like the Earth element that requires them to only start by casting their Entrance-level Earth-type spells and increase in proficiency by holding it for as long as possible. Tomorrow is going to be practicals with the Lightning element. It will also be a sort of a duel.
"Gather around everyone. This is going to be like we have always talked about. A friendly exchange of pointers. Remember, we are Spellcasters and we should stand tall to stand against our enemy." the class teacher watching over the students announced.
Soon after he called on the first two students to come on stage. Two boys walked up the platform and took their stance. There are no tricks to it. All the two student have to do is to practice on their accuracy, agility and endurance.
Accuracy because people wouldn't just be standing around waiting for you to send out lightning through your hands to hit them. No one should be that stupid.
Agility because you would have to be fast enough to dodge lightning that is being shot at you. Some will say that is easy since a few of them have Auxiliary-type spells used for maneuvering.
But then, you shouldn't forget, you are in a Lightning element class. Other elements aren't allowed in the duel!
Endurance because this is where the Elemental Resistance starts to kick in and is built. It is believed that with those who have the Lightning element, the more shock they feel the greater they begin to build there Elemental Resistance. Elemental Swordsmen have a greater Elemental Resistance at the start of their training that Spellcasters.
Once the two boys got on the platform they will have to pray to be the fastest one among them to cast a spell. Their concentration had to be strong. The way they interact with the elements is and will always be different from Ben.
"Lightning Strike!" Fred was the first to release the violent lightning from his grasp. Yet, it did little against his opponent. He was able to evade it before it hit him.
"Is this what you call a Lightning Strike? That's pathetic if you haven't noticed. Try mine... Lightning Strikes!" unlike the his opponent who only conjured one Lightning Strike, Draco could conjure three.
And like so, the duel ended even before it started. It wasn't Fred's fault, neither was it that he was weak but his opponent was just too strong.
The next match was nothing spectacular. Some students who were diligent enough to practice their spells, sometimes to exhaustion, we're the ones who won. The main thing wasn't only being diligent, they also needed to have a bit of fighting experience to stand a chance.
Ben kept watching until a hulk if a man started making his way towards him. He heard the cracking of knuckles as though the person heading his way was preparing for a brawl. Ben thought maybe if he just keeps quiet he'll just go away. But then, life doesn't always give you lemonade when you ask.
"Ben, Ben, why don't we have a go, huh? It looks like you're bored with the way you just stare at them."
"Oh, don't worry about me, Draco. The teacher already peered me with someone else. You should rest too, your fight was a tough one." Ben had his hands in his pocket with his back against the wall while he spoke still having his eyes on the fight going on.
"Pfft... that? I can hardly call that a fight. That was more like a beating. I heard you have a good affinity with the Lightning element, I just want to see what it feels like to beat your ass and wipe away that smug look off your face. Hahaha!" Draco's laughter boomed throughout the entire fighting hall.
Ben now has the attention of everyone there. He didn't mind but he didn't say he liked it either. "What do you want Draco?" he asked.
"I just said so, I want to beat your ass." Draco said sneering widely at Ben.
"Well, I'd love to, but as you can see I have a fight. What about we have a go in the next two matches? That should satisfy you, right?"
"It's a deal. At least this way, people won't call this bullying after all. You are on pretty boy." with that Ben was left alone... for now.
Ben stood but wasn't left alone yet. Shortly after Draco left another figure came running to him. She was a head shorter than him and had two blond ponytails tied with pink ribbons.
"Why did you agree to have a fight with him? He's such a jerk."
"All the more reason to teach him a lesson, Pudding. Come on, we're are up next. Remember what I taught you?" seeing her nod her head, he smiled, "Good."
Yep, up next would be Ben and Pudding. Once they went up the platform boos were heard everywhere around them. This is mainly because Pudding despite having high scores in her papers, she is seen as weak, very weak. While Ben, on the other hand has continuously refused to accept any fight until now.
"It's just as we practiced." Ben said softly when they got in position.
"Begin!"
