All Ben could as of now was one thing, kill. He raised his sword and killed madly, just like a madman! slowly but unnoticed, hours had gone by.
Even though he madly killed he wasn't stupid to go out on his own, he knew his limits. He had to also observe his surroundings for any ambush. That was when he noticed the buildings around them were all untouched by the army of Undead that came at them. Ben was momentarily stomped when he even saw one Undead having a cautious look when passing by one of those buildings.
Using his Mindpower... Urgh! The building was over thirty metres away while his Mindpower could only reach a little below twenty metres. 'This sucks.' Ben exclaimed in his head. But still, he turned on Lucy's radar to scan the buildings, and sure enough there was an energy field preventing both the buildings from collapsing and the Undead army away from them.
'Will it keep the Undead from us if we go into one of them? Will it even let us in?' Ben had a rain of questions coming at him.
"Guys! over here! Hey too the houses!" Ben shouted to the others. Without waiting for them he began clearing a path for them. They all followed behind.
Ben took one direction with the closest building and they followed. They were killing to survive and Ben kept collecting Soul-lights from every Undead he killed along the way. Finally reaching the gates of a big house, they dashed for the gates. Upon entering the compound they all turned to look at three army of Undead creatures behind them.
"They aren't attacking." after a few breath Cush blurted out.
"Yeah." every other person said in a daze.
"I think we've found what we were looking for." Ben's voice came from behind them.
They looked behind and found themselves in front of a manor. The city lords manor. "Haha! we've finally reached the city lords manor, Lord of the Badlands! haha!"Cush yelled with glee.
"Let's go through the back." Sye suddenly suggested.
"Why? it's not like the front of the manor isn't creepy enough." Zoe protested in a low voice. Goosebumps were all over her skin.
"There'll be no need to go round the house. We'll use the front." Cush led them to the door but stopped, so did the others.
"What's wrong?" Ben asked.
"It's protected by strong magic, Cush's energy can't got through." said Evelyn solemnly.
"Maybe it has to do with the baleful aura in the environment that made it so. Let me try." Zoe pushes her way towards the door, she started channeling magic with obscure chants in the elves tongue. Green strings wove round her hand, it even sent the baleful aura around them back. This is the elves most prideful magic. The forest magic that brings life to plant and peace to animals, it can also calm the minds of men.
But now it was like putting water on a rock. There was no change in the protective magic, instead a repelling force knocked Zoe back.
"(yelp)" the force pushed her away, almost tripping on her feet. Evelyn was standing at her back caught her on time. "Thanks. It's too powerful." she says as she stands to her feet.
Ben watched all this from the side saying nothing. It's not like he knows anything anyway. Yet, his heart and mind was very unsettled and not calm at all. The calling kept tugging at his soul to come ever closer.
"I guess there's only one way in, huh." Sye spoke to himself, however his words were still heard.
"What is it?" Cush asked impatiently.
Sye didn't talk but stares at everyone present in the eyes, like he was searching their soul. When his gaze feel on Ben, looking into his eyes he gave a hollow laugh then said.
"Blood Magic."
"""!!!"""
These two words brought about a shock to everyone, including Ben. Although he wasn't knowledgeable in the world of magic, the little he'd read from his mother's journal tagged it as forbidden magic! Heck, that was the only thing she wrote down about it. Nothing more, nothing less.
And as fate so desires, here he was with someone bringing it up as a topic to go into a protected barrier. It is known that anyone who is found practicing such magic is killed on the spot even by fellow wizards.
"What do you mean Sye?" Cush asked with a stern tone. His hands were already reaching for the hilt of his sword. Even Zoe decisively took out an arrow and held onto her bow just to be sure they are guessing wrongly.
"Seriously? After coming this far?" Sye shook his head and held up his hands in the air, surrendering.
Seeing and hearing his reply Cush took out his sword in a flash. Zoe knotted her bow and was already pulled to a crescent moon shape. While the earth under Sye's feet became quicksand, sinking him to his ankle before turning solid again, holding him in place. Only Ben stood silent.
"There's no place for you in this world Sye." Zoe cursed. All three of them had a face of disgust.
"Looks like we have a smart one here." Sye said facing Ben.
"Guys, I don't think he's a bad guy." Ben tells everyone.
"Ben, I know you're young and don't understand a few things, but Blood Magic wizards my must die on sight. They are all evil." Evelyn said.
"Then that would mean you'll be going to hell for killing an angel, Evelyn." Ben shrugged his shoulder at Evelyn.
"What do you...?" Evelyn wanted to retort back but suddenly remembers the person she had just killed not long ago, Trick. He wasn't a Blood Magic wizard so why did she kill him on the spot?
As they realized what Ben meant they couldn't help but feel stupid at the moment. Trick had seemed like a good person, backing Zoe as either an over protective boyfriend or as an elder brother. Yet, who would have known he had such a dark side at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Sye, who they all deem the devil for practicing Blood Magic not once but continuously risked his life to protect the team without having any ulterior motives behind it. Come to think of it there were so many places where he could have killed them or let them die secretly but didn't. Instead he gave them a hand and here they are trying to purge him only because he claims to knows Blood Magic, which again might help the team. How ironic!
"You shouldn't judge a person because of the type of magic they do, at least try judging what the person uses the magic for. Some had no choice." Sye said a little dejected.
"You should know that a healer can decide not to heal anyone even when at the brink of death. That's murder. Fire can also be used to burn down an orphanage to the ground, let's not even go to water." Ben told the three as he walked up the stairs to the door.
"And why should we trust such a person?" Evelyn was still in doubt.
"Since you, still being alive with 'such a person' for this long, you, should give 'such a person' some trust. Don't you think?" Ben spoke using Evelyn's words against her.
"Guys, he's right. He has helped a lot throughout our time together." Cush finally spoke up.
"Well then, how can 'Blood Magic' help?" Zoe asked with disgust at the word Blood Magic.
"Okay," Sye turned to Ben and gave a nod to show his gratitude for sticking up for him. "We have to use the blood of a living thing, as there isn't any animal on sight, we'll use human blood. Don't worry I'll use mine." Sye quickly added so the rest doesn't get anymore tensed up.
Sye took out a red curves dagger different from his throwing knives, in a swift motion he cut open his palm. With a string of incantations in Molta, the blood gathering on his outstretched hand floated up in midair. Sye's aura completely changed although his face became deathly pale.
With continuous swipes of both hands the floating blood turned into an eery looking rune, then he pushed it to the large double of the manor.
The Blood rune was making its way through the door with ease when suddenly halfway in, it stopped, no longer going forward. Sweat kept dropping off Sye's pale face as he put every ounce of concentration of his into the Blood rune.
Powerful magic were spewing out from the clash of both magics. Sparks flew everywhere, air current began to build. The entire air was filled with the stench of blood around them. They could even feel their blood being stirred by the Blood Magic.
The standoff went on for almost an hour before they saw signs of the door... opening. For a second Evelyn was thrilled that they were making progress until she remembered she had a front to keep. Sye was a Blood Magic wizard after all.
Sye was now on one knee, he had less than one-third of his Magic power left. If things went on like this, things wouldn't be good for them.
"Ha!!!" Sye shouted out as both he and the repelling force was at their very limit. Sending every energy in him into the Blood rune a crack was heard. The door has been opened ajar.
However, Sye wasn't in a good position himself. The blockade pushed the rune and Sye flying down the flight of more than twenty stairs landing more than ten metres farther from the base of the last stair. That much force could have easily shattered a cow, luckily Sye had a strong build and magic.
Nobody expected what just happened and was stunned at the force of that push. Ben felt a wave of disgusted emotion. He certainly for one knew that these feelings weren't his, but, it came from whatever was calling for him through his soul.
"It's finally opened." Zoe said excitedly.
Because no one bothered to help Sye up Ben only shook his head and jumped to the last floor and helped Sye. Ben wouldn't judge anyone regardless of what they do all long as they do things the right way. If he finds a demon creature protecting humans, he wouldn't kill it because it's a demon creature.
