章節 27: 27 Cardinal Head Spider
Twenty minutes were wasted doing nothing of value for the group. Twenty minutes to them felt like hours. Jeremy, on the one hand found fault in almost everything and even tried fighting Flash, Bob, Mia and even Ben. He was stopped before he could do anything. However, as time went by it only became worse. Vanessa, on the other hand have become love-stricken for Ben. Ben felt extremely weird about all that was happening. Parker had also began regaining consciousness slowly.
"Who the hell did this to me? Flash!" Parker shouted realizing the situation he was in.
"Shut up you son of a bitch!" before anyone could explain to Parker, Jeremy shouted. They'd though that after a little nap Parker should be a bit calm to understand what he did. Hearing Jeremy cursing him the hope everyone thought was there to find out the root of the problem, vanished.
"Who the fuck told this trap to talk? get me out of these ropes and let me teach you a lesson." Parker retorted.
"Enough or do you want your mouth to be sealed as well." Flash bellowed.
Ben kept watching what was going on but didn't speak, after a while he called Flash, Kate and Mia over. For a while now Flash changed the way he has been speaking to Ben. They came forward then Ben took them far away from where others can't hear them.
"Guys, I think this must be some kind of virus or something. From what I understand, Parker was the first to behave strangely by rushing into Nessa for no reason, well... let's call it lust, but doesn't it sound strange to you."
"Ben, this will probably be the first time I'll have to agree with you," Flash said, even if he wasn't happy with the way Ben spoke about his friend he had to agree.
"I believe it could also be one of the things I read in a book; There are abilities that can make someone hypnotise people to do certain things even demon creatures have this ability, but it's incredibly hard to see one and they are very dangerous and cunny to deal with." Kate told them all she knew hoping it might help the team.
"The only people that has such abilities are wizards, there can't be anyone wizard in the woods, right?" Mia said doubtfully.
"I don't think it's a wizard. You said demon creatures have this ability too, what creature has such power to hypnotize people?" asked Ben.
"The book I read was written by a local seven years ago who had gone round this entire mountain and forest, the creature is called the Cardinal Head Spider." stated Kate.
"Wait, isn't that one of the demon creature that claimed one of its territory by a pond with its rival being the Giant Blood Fox at the other side of its direction." Flash exclaimed.
"It probably is, we can't stay on like this. Something needs to be done." Mia said clenching her fist in anger.
"I also read in the book that once a person is infected and hypnotized the only way is to kill the creature responsible for it and use its Crystal Core along with some healing potions then the effect will clear up. If not the effect will only get worse with time" Kate explained carefully.
"Alright then, Mia, you and I will go and see what this thing has to offer, Flash, do you think you can use your influence as captain to stop any up coming conflicts?" Ben laid out his idea for them.
"Haha, how ironic. I was starting to think you're the captain around here." Flash said sarcastically. Truly ironic.
Ben and Mia took the things they might need when in the territory of a late Servant Class creature. Although they've read info about the Cardinal Head Spider they don't know how much it has leveled up lately. The book was written seven years ago!
The duo tried walking stealthily in the woods, mostly Mia since Ben had the 'Forest Parade', walking without making a sound was nothing to him. His days in the forest wasn't only about hunting. He has now reached the stage he once was in his previous life while training the 'Forest Parade'. Ben felt like crying, he reached the level that took him twelve years to reach in just five days!
"Ben, I know you've gotten stronger and all, but I don't think you can help that much, it'll be better if Flash was here since he's an elemental swordsman. No offence though." Mia said trying not to insult him.
"Oh, don't worry about me, you just have to lay your domain immediately we get there, leave the rest to me, you could still help though." Ben replied with a smile.
Mia looked at Ben as though he said something stupid. Thinking maybe this must be one of those things they do to get her to join their conversation, she shrugged it off. But the way he spoke so confidently made her think otherwise. If he was really that serious, how then is he going to do it?
Throughout their entire journey only Mia's boots could be heard, Mia all along didn't take notice to this. They quietly arrived not far from the pond and saw two Dire Wolves drinking from the pond they were headed. Nothing unusual was seen about the pond apart from the sticky mud surrounding the pond making it a bit hard for the Dire Wolves to stand on.
Ben knew this place was the origin of their problems back at the camp. He spread his mind power to observe the two Dire Wolves closely. He watched carefully switching from the pond to the wolves then the pond again.
The wolves were already filled up and was about to continue with their life until something caught Ben's attention. If this had been any other day such insignificant detail would never get his attention, but now it did; It was two thumb-sized transparent-like spiders.
These two transparent-like spiders jumped out of the water and lunged at the wolves who had just lifted their heads from the pond. Jumping right on their oversized paws, the spiders bit them. Ben, with his mind power could see the spiders releasing venom into the Dire Wolves body. Ben was able to see exactly what happened unlike Mia who didn't have mind power.
"Something is in the water. Two spiders just jumped out of the water biting the two Dire Wolves." Mia was confused by what Ben was saying but said nothing. 'isn't it a normal thing?' she thought. "It doesn't seem right?" said Ben.
"Ben, you're saying some bugs biting a larger animal is unusual? We're in the forest, the wild, besides, how did you see that? I didn't see anything." Mia whispered.
"For your first question they're called arachnids not bugs. As for the second, you'll find out later. Let's keep waiting." dropping those two sentences Ben faced the two wolves again.
Mia didn't ask anymore and kept paying attention on the two Dire Wolves. The two Dire Wolves didn't go too far away from the pond, about twenty metres away from the pond. Ben and Mia stuck closely to the two beasts at the same time giving them a good distance between them. With the nature of these group of wolves if by peradventure see anything they deem prey it would be hard to escape alive. Both Dire Wolves moved around without any problems for five minutes. At this point Mia began to lose her patience, because of her countenance she didn't show.
Grraaa
Without any rhyme or reason one of the Dire Wolves clawed at its comrade. A bloody gash appeared on the neck, luckily Dire Wolves has strong physique, meaning the bloody gash was only but a scratch to them. Seeing its comrade wanting to 'play', well that's how Ben and Mia saw it, the second Dire Wolf clawed back.
What happened next shocked both watchers because their 'play' just turned into a life or death match. It was as though they've seen their natural foe and is determined to kill even if it means dragging both of them to hell. You could imagine just how intense the fight was. Both Dire Wolves are of the same properties; Strong body, sharp claws, although not too agile they are powerful, they both have the same weakness and strength, disadvantage and advantage. The only way to know who would the last one standing was too see the first to get knocked down or run out of energy first.
The fight went on for a total of thirty minutes. The time may seem small but the injuries these creatures have sustained are injuries of a three hour battle. After so much blood loss both Dire Wolves fell to the ground and died. Mia and Ben looked at each other and saw the confusion in both their eyes. They've been watching the wolves for nearly an hour finding no reasons for conflicts to erupt. So why would they fight to the death for no reason?
"Let's go check it out." Mia stood up only to be pulled with so much force she almost fell.
Ben put his index finger in front of his mouth and pointed to the trees above the two corpse of the two wolves. Mia followed Ben's line of sight to the trees, she gasp upon seeing what was hanging from the trees. There a giant hairy ghost like spider coming down from a tree branch, obviously hanging from a web.
The spider had an almost transparent body with red and black veins and arteries crisscrossing on its body. This giant spider looked sinister and terrifying. Its head had an unimaginable number of eyes that a spider should not have at all.
The Cardinal Head Spider landed on the ground and began creeping to the two dead bodies and began spinning it's web around one of the Dire Wolves corpse. It's had gone half way wrapping the first body when it's eyes caught movement in the bushes not too far away.
"It found us!" Mia shouted.
"Unleash your... Shit, RUN!" Ben was cut short as he saw the Cardinal Head Spider spit out green substance from its mouth towards them.
Ben couldn't survive such an attack, he pushed Mia to the left and jumped to the right himself. When the green substance landed in the bushes they were hiding in, it rapidly disintegrated into black smelly goo. This is so to say, this substance is a very corrosive poison that shouldn't be handled carelessly, or more like it shouldn't be handled at all.
Although the push was sudden Mia was able to gain her balance after doing a double roll then coming to a stop with a squat. She rubbed both hands then blew at them making the temperature to drop drastically, almost like it was winter. Mia readily drew out her broadsword that can be said to be bigger than her yet she held it as though it didn't weigh much.
Mia didn't stop there but further coated the sword with some intense frost all over its body. It made the sword almost look mystical. Ha. Giving a loud shout she slashed her sword in the air shooting out ice sword beam. She sent them hurling towards the Cardinal Head Spider. This is the power of an elemental swordsman.
Slash Slash
Two tearing sounds were heard as two sword beam hit two legs of the giant spider yet no damage was made. Such powerful display yet all that happened was only frost that stuck on its body. Be mindful however, that this is a scary thing about the ice elements. It isn't as destructive as fire when used to fight but it becomes a lot more deadlier in a long run. Those who don't know of such a thing always regret belittling such a small thing.
Ka Ka Ka
Ice rapidly spread in the surrounding, the trees had started producing icicles that hung on branches. The air... now completely frozen. The giant spider felt the attack Mia sent land on its body then it became enraged, it tried lunging at her but was blocked by Ben, this gave Mia enough time to escape to a new location.
They both had a good enough synergy, allowing them to evade the spider's attacks. Mia handled giving sneak attacks while Ben distracts the beast from reaching her. Their synergy, speed, enhanced strength was on display yet, because their opponent is an abnormal giant spider that has more eyes than any normal spider, it was still able to dodge some of their attacks with its nimble legs.
