OZPIN POV
A Few Days Later
"The Vytal Festival Tournament has been postponed by a week. Possibly more if the situation continues to deteriorate." Glynda said, sounding tired. "387 people died in the explosions and more than 5,000 people have been injured. The White Fang has crossed a dangerous line this time Ozpin. The people are afraid. And they're lashing out at the other Faunus in the city due to their own fear. The Human-Faunus relationship hasn't been this bad in decades."
"Thanks to the overwhelming negative atmosphere in the city, more and more Grimm are attacking the City Walls." General Ironwood said "It's a good thing that I brought so many soldiers and Military ships. The situation would've been a lot worse without them."
"What about the White Fang?" he asked.
"The Vale police force and the hunters have succeeded in capturing some of them. But the rest remains at large." Ironwood said "Good news is that the White Fang seems to have splintered into smaller groups after the video of Sienna Khan's death was leaked. The bad news is that the remaining White Fang members working under Banesaw seemed to hate all Humans with fervor. The suicide bomber who blew up the CCT system was no doubt one of their more radical members."
"It is a good thing that the Night Walkers managed to steal the Dust from White Fang. If they had more dust at hand then the situation would've been far worse than it currently is." Glynda Goodwitch said.
"The Night Walkers killed a member of the Vale Council." Ironwood pointed out with a frown "They're criminals. Just because they're better than White Fang doesn't make them good."
Seeing an argument brewing between his subordinates, he stepped in between them and sipped from his cup.
"How long did you say it'll take for the CCT system to come back online?" he asked.
"Depends on how extensive the damage is." Ironwood replied "Our engineers are still checking out how badly the system has been damaged. But they're not specialized in this so the best they could do is bring some of the less damaged systems online. In order to get it all together, we'll have to wait for the Atlas to send the Specialists. All in all, the system should start working in a month but it'll take from a few months to a whole year to get it back to normal."
He nodded.
That was… worse than he had anticipated but nothing he couldn't deal with.
After all, he had worked without the CCT System for centuries. Not having it would be inconvenient but not something that he can't workaround.
"I don't see Qrow here. Have you sent him on another one of your missions?" Glynda asked.
He shook his head, wondering how to break this to them. In the end, he simply decided to tell them in the simplest way. "Qrow had decided to retire as a huntsman in order to open a Bar in Patch."
"You cannot be serious." Ironwood growled. The man never liked Qrow so his displeasure was understandable.
Especially when Qrow left them at such a critical juncture.
"Why would he do that?" Glynda asked.
"It seems that not being able to avenge his sister finally broke his spirit." He said "He might still join in to help his nieces from time to time but we cannot expect any more from him after this. Though he did leave me with an interesting tidbit before he left."
"And that would be?" Glynda asked.
"It would seem that Qrow spied on the meeting between the Night Walkers and Councilwoman Rosa Fisher."
"The deal where she was betrayed and killed by the Night Walkers?" Ironwood asked "Why didn't he save her?"
"Because the Councilwoman brought 5 Hunter Teams for the meeting while as far as we're aware, the Night Walkers only have 6 members."
"6 members?" Ironwood asked in disbelief and he nodded "How did 6 people defeat 5 Hunter teams."
"Not only 5 teams. But 5 hunter teams along with Hazel Reinhart and Tyrian Callows."
Glynda's eyes widened at that while Ironwood's eyes narrowed. "Are you saying that…"
"That Night Walkers are dead?"
He chuckled at that before his expression became serious. "No. If what Qrow told me is to be believed. Then both Hazel and Tyrian died in the fight along with the 5 hunter teams and Councilwoman Rosa Fisher."
"How is that even possible?" Glynda whispered.
From what little they knew, both Tyrian Callow and Hazel Rienhart were top-tier hunters, strong enough that they were capable of going against a Veteran hunter team and winning.
That is why what Qrow told him shook his so much.
And that was exactly why he won't give his subordinates any more details.
Knowing that a Hunter as capable as Hazel was killed within ten seconds would demoralize them.
"Are the Night Walkers that strong?" Glynda asked and he nodded.
"Both Hazel and Tyrian were killed by the apparent leader of the Night Walkers and her subordinate. In light of this new information, it is clear to us that not only did Councilwoman Rosa Fisher betray the Night Walkers. But she might also have been a pawn of Salem. Which means that the Night Walkers aren't."
"So what are we going to do about them?" Ironwood asked.
"It's simple. We'll leave them be." Or even offer them an alliance if possible. With Qrow having retired, he could use as many talented Hunters in his service as possible.
And speaking of Talented hunters.
"Glynda. How was your time with team ASPR?"
And Glynda told him everything.
