章節 18: The four greatest sects

"The four greatest sects... What the hell does that mean?"

"Just like the name suggests, they are the four greatest sects that are currently leading this world. They have a lot of power, wealth, and influence. The powerhouses that you must think twice before you decide to offend them,"

"Powerhouses? Care to tell me about them in a bit more detailed manner?" Fu Jie suddenly thought that he was right in thinking that although this girl reminded him of Bai Ling, she was a lot more useful than that man.

He already knew what leading sects meant but he still wanted to cross-check the information he had and also wanted to know more details about these sects individually since every sect was different.

"There's a lot I can say about them." Luo Lijuan spoke up, "It's a matter of what you want to know exactly...?"

"Since you already know I'm not from here, I won't beat around the bush. I don't know anything about this world or anything about these four greatest sects." Fu Jie half-lied with an honest face, "I have heard of the sky sect before and since I'm here, I know this place is the Maple passion Pavillion but the rest is all a blank. So tell me everything you know about them."

Luo Lijuan smiled brightly as she looked at Fu Jie who had suddenly turned all serious.

If he wanted to get some answers, this girl seemed to be the best person to ask and so, it was only natural that Fu Jie would seriously ask her all the questions he had bottled up.

"If I were to tell you everything I know about them, we'll be standing here forever." Luo Lijuan sighed, "Why don't we go back in and sit down to talk? I'll try to tell you as much as possible."

For some odd reason, Fu Jie had the feeling that he was somehow being tricked. This girl seemed to be trying to get him to go back since the beginning. For some reason, she didn't want him to leave and now she was using this as a trick to lure him in. Fu Jie knew he was being tricked, but he still nodded his head and went along with what she said.

They went back to the room that Fu Jie was now somewhat familiar with and as soon as they got in, Fu Jie demanded her to speak, "Now tell me."

Luo Lijuan chuckled as she heard this and suddenly her hair started changing colors.

Fu Jie immediately understood that this was a bad sign so he cried out, "Why are you trying to attack me again?!"

"Since you have agreed to let me be your trainer, shouldn't you be a little respectful? What is with that authoritative tone?!" Although she was smiling so brightly, she still seemed to be pretty mad and Fu Jie gulped in fear as he heard her.

"Um... S-Senior martial sister, can you please tell me more about the four great sects?" Fu Jie asked, trying to be as polite as possible. Never in his life had he done something like this. If somebody didn't like his personality, they were always free to avoid him so no one bothered to correct his rude behavior and he didn't want to change his behavior either, but this situation was different. In his real world, no one would be able to scold him or punish him because of his behavior, not even his father was ever able to change him, however, this world was different. Bai Ling had already told him that there was a chance he might die in this world and if he were to die in this world, he would no longer be able to go back. There were no do-overs here. There was nothing after death.

If he died, it was as simple as that: He would be dead.

Luo Lijuan seemed to be satisfied with this change in behavior as her hair changed back to its normal dark black color and she smiled happily, "That's better."

Fu Jie sighed in relief as he sat down on the bed and waited for the girl to speak.

Luo Lijuan pulled out the chair and took a seat as she finally decided to give him the answer that he so desperately sought.

"Among the four greatest sects, it can't be decided which one is the best. They are all great and stand as the pillars of this world, powerful and united. If someone were to go against even one of them, they would indirectly be going against all of them."

"So they are united together? Why not just make one big sect if that is the case?"

"One sect?" She laughed at the suggestion in a mocking manner, "No way! They hate each other!"

"Eh?" Fu Jie was confused as he heard this and it was clear that this woman was the one who had caused all the confusion. On one hand, she was saying that they were all together and on the other hand, she was saying that they hated each other.

"They are powerful and united, but that unity is all for show. I said they can't be compared but everyone still compares them with each other. Each of these sects wants to prove themselves as the most powerful and influential so although they can't directly go against the other sects, they still try to smile and try to prove themselves better using backhanded means."

"Backhanded?"

"Don't you remember the attack? It was probably organized by the phoenix ridge people."

"Eh? The battle?"

"You were also there. You should've seen them, didn't you? The people wearing black and red."

Fu Jie nodded his head as he thought back to the time when he had fought against such people and after attacking once, he had lost all energy and fallen asleep in the middle of the battle. Now that he thought about it, he couldn't help but feel bitter. Wasn't that battle the reason why he was sitting here as an inner-core disciple today? If he had never gone along with that guard's words, he wouldn't have been stuck with such a troublesome woman who enjoyed trying to kill him at any small argument.

"They attacked our sect at such a time." Luo Lijuan sounded annoyed as she gritted out, "They really have no shame."

Fu Jie glanced at the arm of the chair that was being squeezed by her and just as expected, the wood used to make it couldn't stand a chance against her strength as it broke under the pressure of her palm and Fu Jie couldn't help but gulp in fear as he suddenly imagined what it would be like if that arm didn't belong to the chair but belonged to him instead. His poor bones would surely be crushed!

"Senior martial sister, I think you're mistaken about something."

"Hmm?"

"The sect they attacked... Wasn't it the sky sect?"

"Huh?" Luo Lijuan titled her head as she looked at him with an odd expression as if she had just heard something ridiculous, "Of course not! They attacked the maple passion pavilion."

"..." Fu Jie took a whole minute to digest the information that he had been fed with.

How could this be?

He thought back to the wretched guards that had dragged him into the middle of that fight. They were certainly all wearing white-colored robes.

Luo Lijuan suddenly broke out laughing as she saw his stunned expression, "You don't even know who hired you? Hahaha..."

"..." Fu Jie didn't dare respond.

"What about the ones who arrested you? Do you know them?"

"The sky sect..."

Wasn't this the answer?

This was exactly what Bai Ling had told him and there was no way that man had lied... Right?

"The maple passion pavilion was the one that arrested you and the jail you were in also belonged to us."

"Eh?" Fu Jie's eyes went wide and he almost felt as if they were ready to pop out from his sockets due to all the shock.

"The sect that was attacked was also Maple passion pavilion and the one you joined is also the same." Luo Lijuan sighed, "How could you be so... Dumb?"

"..." Fu Jie took a deep breath in and tried to calm himself down as he thought about it.

He had a lot to say but most of it were just curses that were all aimed at Bai Ling who had lied to him!

How could he?!

Fu Jie knew the man was thoroughly useless but to think that he dare lie about the minimal information he gave?! Just thinking about it made Fu Jie's blood boil.

If Bai Ling were to hear all the things Fu Jie had blamed upon him, he would chuckle awkwardly, shake his head, and be shocked to hear it since he really hadn't lied about anything.

He had only told Fu Jie that he belonged to the sky sect. He never told him that he was captured by them, nor did he say that they were currently in the region controlled by the sky sect. It was all Fu Jie coming to his own conclusions after hearing the sect's name.

"But why would you people arrest me? It doesn't make sense!" Fu Jie cried out.

"Because you're Liu Fu Jie. Your identity is the reason you got arrested."
