As if on cue, Alaina heard the front main doors downstairs getting unlocked and followed by the sound of Jake's voice, "I'm home. You want your ice cream right now?" he asked from downstairs.

"No, but I'll be downstairs in a minute." Alaina yelled her reply back and then willed herself to calm down, take a breather, no getting nervous and get downstairs with her stuff, Ash would be here anytime. 

Alaina carried her stuff down and placed it on the last step of the stairs to find him in the living area.

Hearing the noise, Jake looked up and found Alaina placing a packed up bag on near the front door.

Ok, he saw, now she can't cower back to her room and sneak out the window. Although she could never climb down from up there and neither could she run away without explaining anything to him first.

He was giving her a questioning gaze meaning he wanted to know what was the meaning of this.
