This was the benefit of being a light affinity spell sword for the elven race. However, for the dragonkin, it was even more dramatic. 

The dragonkin could bring out more than just the illusion abilities within the light elemental mana. They had the ability to bring out the dense destructive power of the light. The result was that their blades cloaked in light would be able to better slice through just about anything.
