章節 206: Crisis (3)

The dragon nest dungeon has many entrances. According to Navi all point at the same point, the center of the spiral. I'm not quite sure how it is supposed to make sense but the dungeon is said to be built around a descending spiral.

A cylinder in the ground with a spiral path that leads to the bottom of the cylinder. Along this path, many entrances lead into the upper and outer portions of the dungeon. The entrance we are guarding is one of those.

If one uses an entrance further down they will enter a lower region in the dungeon where stronger monsters, specifically fully grown sub-dragons, are.

And if someone were to enter at the bottom of the cylinder they would most likely be met with dragons. Real dragons! I wonder what level an adventurer must reach to kill a dragon...

<Depends on the kind of dragon really but they would have to be pretty strong or have a very fitting class>

Like master?

<Oden Bloodborne? He rarely ever fight in dungeons so we know little to nothing about his skills and level. After you mentioned his peculiarity a few weeks back we did some investigation into him. From the rumors flying about, he's more suited towards fighting humans. His last name indeed refers to a skill but not even the government knows the details of it. All their file of him says is to avoid touching his blood like the plague.>

How the hell do you know what information governmental files contain? Aren't they supposed to be confidential and tightly guarded?

<Very few things can stop Darwin as long as he is willing to put in the effort. He can walk into any governmental institution and they are unlikely to ever notice.>

If Darwin is so great and all why go through the efforts of building up all this? Can't he just kill all adventurers in the alpha plane and be done with it?

<Jade, there are existences in the alpha plain that are far beyond our capabilities to fight. Just the paragons alone are a danger, add the various strong people in hiding and the danger from the ancients... Actually, forget the last part I said.>

Who are the ancients?

<None of your business! They aren't a danger as of now and it's better if things remain as they are. We will keep hiding in the alpha plane, end of discussion.>

Fine, guess I'll do my job then.

I have reached the entrance we've been loitering around for the past week and gently poke my head out through the large cavern entrance. I only take a quick look around before instantly pulling back my head.

The entrance is guarded. Not a big surprise but still a nuisance to deal with. Monsters in dungeons rarely ever leave but if they do it's normally in droves. Humans call it a dungeon stampede or a dungeon break.

Guards are posted outside all known entrances of dangerous dungeons to put up the first line of defense against stampedes as well as keep an eye on who enters. The thing is, stampedes are loud and usually contain low-level monsters. Hence, the guards aren't really paying much attention to the entrance nor is their level particularly high. My gut tells me that all of them are below level 30.

If I am fast enough and maximize my use of my stealth skill I can overwhelm them before they can call for help. Let's do it!

I can't go with a pure rush strategy or I will be noticed. Hence, I need to draw them all close together. This is going to be so cliche...

I lightly whip a pebble by the entrance and send it flying outside. It hits the ground quite close to one of the guards and ricochets away and out of my field of sight. The guard reacts near immediately as he snaps his head around. He tries to stand up and draw his sword from its sheath too quickly and stumbles. He takes a step forward to steady himself but still falls on his face. Idiot, hmpf!

If that had been a real monster even a goblin could have killed when he was on the ground with his sword only half drawn. This is a dungeon for gods' sake! Why are these guys so unprofessional?

<Why are you so pissed off by their ineptitude would be a better question. This benefits you in every way.>

It still makes me mad to see people be this careless and untrained when they hold the fate of others in their hands.

"You alright? Did a spider crawl into your pants?"

The other guards have stopped laughing at their comrade and walk over to help him up. They can't seem to help themselves so they add a bit of ridicule while one of them helps him up.

"Something was there, behind me! I heard it make a sound! Maybe it was a monster!"

"You're delusional. We'd hear a stampede from a few miles away and if a single small monster got out then no one will care."

The guards are all crowding around that one guard agreeing with one another that nothing is wrong whatsoever. My tail cuts through the air like a whip and them all at once. Like broken rag dolls, they are thrown to the ground. However, since they were all standing closely together the ones closer to my tail softened the impact for those behind them.

Those lucky bastards are still alive. They see me as I rush towards them and bite one of them in half. Thankfully, they are so scared that their bodies become paralyzed by fear and they can't make a sound.

I finish them off before they can alert anyone around and drag their corpses into the dungeon moving the splattered blood with my blood magic. This skill comes in very handy since the dungeon's entrance looks pristine now, like nothing has ever happened. If someone does come by they'll at most wonder where the guards have gone.
