"So I am stuck with earth magic for the time being?"
"No, you are stuck with being bad at switching. If you find that earth magic isn't your thing you can learn another element and use that. You can even try fusing elements or training the speed of switching between them. Just because they are difficult doesn't mean they are impossible. And besides, you aren't a mage build anyway."
"Come to think of it, what kind of a build am I?"
"If I had to classify you I'd say you're a very scary commander type. Just think about it, the more time you spend with an army the more powerful it becomes. We have only tested it on goblins and what you call skull-goblins but the amount of improvement you made them go through in a short time is insane."
"But couldn't you do the same? You could just teach them all magic and the effect would be far beyond what I can do."
"It doesn't work that way. First of all, granting magic in that way is exhausting. At most I could do it four times a day. Secondly, the prerequisite for it is a certain level of intelligence and compatibility with the element. Apart from people like us, few monsters meet that criteria without already having magic skills."
"What's so special about us?"
"A lot. We have the minds of humans and we can learn many kinds of magic even if our affinity with them is bad. We are also excluded from some of the rules that apply to monsters and some that do to humans. Becoming powerful is far easier for us than for anybody else."
"Wow, I didn't know we had that many advantages."
"It's the least we could receive for having our lives ruined. Now enough of all these serious talks. You should go back to your goblins and keep training them. Hades is already pushing for more raids again and it won't be long until the others join him and give us the order."
Sounds like bad news to me.
I exchange a few more pleasantries with Darwin before we leave the training room and go our separate ways. I make my way to my room and ask Navi to bring me into the dungeon where my goblins are.
Moments later I wake up at a busy campsite with goblins going about their day with their usual frenzied attitude. Some are training the slash skill under the lead of a sword goblin, others are throwing javelins or stones with their slingshots, and a particular group is kneeling before me.
"You have returned, strong one. We are here to greet you as your humble students."
The goblin leader talks with a resonant voice that I don't think he had before. I look at him a little more intently and the solution finds its way into my head. He has a new skill called leader's voice. The skill makes his voice resound throughout the battlefield to make his order be heard by as many as possible. Damn, I want that skill too!
"How has the camp been? Any more intruders?"
"No, strong one, no one has dared enter our domain since we vanquished our foes the last time. Under your guidance, we shall reign supreme!"
"Be that as it may, don't let yourself grow lazy. We can't afford to rest on our laurels. We have to keep getting stronger to meet the adversaries coming in the future."
"Words of wisdom from the strong one! Commit them to your hearts, my brothers and sisters!"
The goblin leader and the other kneeling goblins look at me with great reverence as if I was some prophet speaking words of god.
"Lead me through the camp. I need to see the strength of our current forces."
"Right away, strong one. Please follow me!"
The goblin leader then gives me a tour of the camp. Since I left they have been recruiting tirelessly bringing their numbers up to 120 goblins. Most of the goblins are new and show little vigor to practice but the older ones are already getting to train by showing off their strength.
The camp's elite force consists of the goblin leader with his trusty halberd, four goblin swordsmen, fourteen hobgoblins, and the goblin mage. Those twenty goblins are the core combat strength of the camp. And then of course there is me.

I'm probably the strongest goblin here due to my level-up spree in colosseum madness. I might also be the most diversified build here.
On that note, time to try out earth magic.
"I want to try out some things. Gather the goblin mage and any goblins that are interested in magic."
"Do you wish to teach them the intricacies of magic, strong one?"
"I wouldn't go as far as to call it teaching but I plan to let them see some things."
A while later I leave the camp with a dozen goblins following after me. We don't walk far and I stop near one of the many pitfalls we dug out to fortify the camp.
This pitfall works great but due to being dug with shovels the walls are uneven and allow someone who survived the spikes to climb back out. I start to concentrate and try to bring back the feeling of being connected with the earth. The pattern within my body emerges as the power I now know is called earth attuned mana begins to flow.
