章節 16: Raezar's Lair

The door opened into a vast expanse of cavern. Rock formations dangled from the impossibly high ceiling. Torches lined the walls. A long stone walkway ascended forward, and at the end of the long path there was a raised dais. This dais contained a massive stone throne, appeared to be carved from solid rock. Sn immense figure rested on the stone throne. I saw massive muscled legs, covered in a loin cloth. A massive ripped torso, tree trunk arms clenching the armrests of the chair. The giant axe glinted in the torchlight, resting within the arm of the monstrous beast.

Raezar began to breathe heavily as we approached, puffs of smoke came out of his nostrils. His muscles trembled as if he was about to move. I motioned for Aine to get back.

With a jerk the arm raised from the armrest of the chair, gripping its weapon. The large lizard man abruptly stood, roaring out his anger. He slammed his axe on to the ground, pounding toward us in large feet. I stood my ground, my sword held I saw Aine trembling behind me. I turned to look at her.

"Aine, if you're scared, just heal. I'll handle it." I said. Aine blanched and raised her brows.

"Are you sure? N-no there's no way I could leave you to fight that—" She continued and was cut off as his axe slammed to the ground in front of us, throwing us both into the air. I twisted and pivoted, landing on my feet. Aine landed on her butt. She groaned and rubbed her sore bottom.

"Aine, get back now!" I shouted. I leaped into the familiar dance, prancing forward a few steps I waved my sword to draw the aggro of the beast away from Aine, as it focused on me I ran in a circle around the beast, once I was behind him I leapt up onto his shoulder and slammed my sword deep into his shoulder. He screamed and shook me off, I flew to the ground. Landing on my knees. Aine leapt to the edges of the room, replacing her sword and raising her arms to chant buffs on to me. I felt my strength and defence increasing.

The beast twisted and turned towards Aine. I cringed. What? It was supposed to go for who was doing the most damage! This was unprecedented. As the beast raised its axe and charged toward Aine, I leapt up, slicing my sword along his full arm and up his shoulder, my sword exited his neck. The beast cried out and fell to his knees. Shaking me off, I fell to the ground at his feet. I ran in a circle and slashed the backs of his kneecaps; he fell to the ground. Aine pulled out her sword in defence and leapt forward, she prodded him in both of the eyes.

"No!" I cried, and Raezar lifted his head and swiped fiercely with his arm, hitting Aine and throwing her into the far wall. I saw her HP deplete to half. She was on her hands and knees on the ground, I saw her cough up what looked like blood on to the floor. Raezar lifted his axe above his head and charged her. I ran, crying out as I dashed, my heart leapt into my chest. I held up my sword with both hands just in time to block the heavy swing down. I collapsed to my knees, my arms shaking with the effort of holding the weapon at bay. My HP depleted down by a third. I cried out, urging Aine to run, she dashed out from behind me and scattered to the other side of the room. I saw her chanting a healing spell to increase her health back to two-thirds.

The axe swing sideways, slashing towards me, I jumped leaping over the cut of the blade. Swinging my sword, I slashed toward the chest of the large beast. Plunging my sword into his ribcage, he screamed, and claws rushed toward me, throwing me down to the ground. I grasped my stomach, where a gaping wound had opened. My HP was down to less than a quarter health. I trembled. I struggled to get to my feet. I saw the arm raise the giant axe again. I closed my eyes and gripped my sword. The arm swung down.

Before I could raise my sword in an attempt to block, a figure was standing before me. Silver hair brazenly shone in the torchlight. His dual blades were interlocked, blocking the massive axe from reaching me, mere inches from my face. I gasped and my eyes widened.

"Vane...!" I screamed expecting his health to be deteriorating. I looked up and noticed his health bar was at Maximum. In fact, as the giant axe attempted to pierce his shields a giant system warning appeared above Vane's head. It read: SYSTEM CODE 478: IMMORTAL OBJECT. I gasped and covered my mouth, Vane through the monster back. In the time he'd been distracting the beast, Aine got off a healing spell. My health was at two-thirds full again. Vane nodded to me and jumped back toward the door, so he was out of the boss battle.

Raezar reared back and roared. The ceiling shook and rocks fell from it. I gripped my sword and nodded toward Aine, who pulled out her rapier. She launched forward jumping through the air and stabbing her rapier through his eye.

"Switch!" She called and jumped back. I leapt through the air; sword reared back. I brought my sword down on the skull of Raezar and heard a sickening crunch. Black flames launched from my sword like vines and wound themselves around the beast, burning and severing muscle and bone. I released the skill "Fayre's Mist". The sword continued cutting through flesh, raining down blood. Raezar screamed and fell to his knees, clutching his head. I sank to my knees on the ground, breathing heavily. Raezar exploded into thousands of polygons. A notification popped up for me "Boss item drop: dragon scale leggings". I closed the menu.

Aine came up behind me and placed a hand on my shoulder, I placed my hand over hers. I saw Vane lounging near the door sheepishly, a smile on his face. He walked towards us slowly, smiling.

"You guys did it!" He clapped. I stood, I marched toward him, my face set in a grim line. His brow rose and he looked around himself to see who I was launching at. I made it so I was inches away from him and I dragged my fist back, I let it fly forward and slapped him firmly across his face. His head launched to the side. He looked at me eyes wide and touched his cheek.

"Why don't you tell us who the fuck you are, Immortal Object." I sneered.

"Hey, I saved your life!" He argued, raising his hands in surrender. He backed away from me a few steps. I followed him, getting right in his face.

"Who. Are. You. Vane?" I choked out through gritted teeth.

"My name is Vane Alexander." He sighed.
