The Wen Clan's advances towards others were much violent which lead them not to speak out nor defend themselves. They even ordered other clans to send their descendants and atleast 20 disciples to their place, for failing to teach them properly and wasting their talents.
Mingjue slams his hand on the table "Wen Ruohan is pushing his luck. They even want you two to go" Xue's brows were knitted "Is this why you asked us to meet you Leader Nie"
"Yes, since they know I am more in touch with you compared to the others" Chun looks at the letter "And if we refuse, then that means we're rebelling that allows them to capture us and lock us up? What kind of bullshit is this"
Mingjue sighs "It's better if you go than risk it, I'm also sending Huaisang with a few othe disciples"
"But sending us there would also mean we were willing to be their hostage. That's absurd" Xue huffs "It's better than having a bounty on your head. Stay here for the mean time and once this whole thing is done I'll help you travel to the west"
"Thank you leader Nie"

It was gloomier than when they had the archery competition and fewer disciples present. A number of disciples came from each sect, whether large or small. All of them were juniors.
"I can't believe there really are girls. They're being unreasonable" Wei Wuxian was ignored "Xue? Chun?" This made Jiang Cheng turn around and the two said names were indeed there, murmurs from other disciples started as they pointedly look at the two.
"What are you guys doing here? Don't tell me you settled?" Xue shook his head "More like we were demanded to be here despite not being actual official disciple of any clans"
Wei Wuxian, "Huh? Why?" Chun growls "They said young rouge cultivator like us need to learn a thing or two. What an idiotic excuse"
Everyone's attention went to Wen Chao who arrived with his so called woman "Who's the clown?" Chun asks "Wang Lingjiao, she was one of Mrs. Wen's maid. But Wen Chao is a womanizer therefore..." Huaisang trails off
Wen Chao got distracted by Chun but Xue blocked the view, he then moves his gaze to Luo Qingyang making Lingjiao irritated "Seems that maid is narrow minded" Wei Wuxiang commented "I mean they suit each other, ugly meets ugly" Ling Wu giggles.
"Something feels off with the Lan Clan of Gusu" the small group glanced at the Lan disciples who looked somewhat pallid.
Wen Chao looked down at everyone. Looking quite pleased with himself, "Since you are here in Qishan, you must follow Qishan's rules. First and foremost, during indoctrination, no one is allowed to carry weapons personally" Jiang Cheng held back his opposing words "Now, hand in your swords one by one"
Someone protested, "Swords should always accompany those who cultivate. Why do you want us to hand over our swords?"
Wen Chao, "Who was the one that spoke? From which sect? Stand forward on your own!"
The person who spoke was immediately too afraid to speak "It's exactly because there are still disciples like you, who know nothing of conduct, of compliance, of humility, that I'm here to indoctrinate you so that your cores don't rot away. You're already so ignorantly audacious. If your customs aren't straightened up now, in the future, there'd naturally be those who attempt to challenge the authority and climb above the Wen Sect's head!"
"Collect their swords!"
Jiang Cheng and Xue held Wei Wuxian and Chun firmly. The two asked with a lowered voice, "What are you holding us down for?" Jiang Cheng snorted, "Don't do unnecessary things"
Wei Wuxian, "You're thinking too much. Even if I'm disgusted by him, no matter how much I want to beat him up, I won't pick such a time and cause our sect trouble. Don't worry" Chun on the other hand "I want to stuff him into a bag and beat him up"
Xue pointed at someone "I'm afraid that wouldn't work. You see that guy beside Wen Chao?" Their gaze shifts to him "Yes. His cultivation is high, but his youth isn't maintained well enough"
Jiang Cheng, "His name is Wen Zhu Liu, also known as the 'Core-melting Hand'. He's servant kept by Wen Chao's side, specially to protect him. Don't provoke him"
Chun, "The 'Core-melting Hand', that's him?"
Xue, "That's right. His pair of palms is quite scary. And he's an aid to the tyrant. Before, he helped Wen…"
They looked straight ahead as they whispered. Seeing one of the Wen Sect's servants approach to take away their swords, they were silent at once.
With confidence, Wei Wuxian unstrapped his sword and handed it over, same goes for Chun and Xue. At the same time, they couldn't help but glance across at the GusuLan Sect's side. Originally thinking that Lan Wangji would definitely refuse to hand it over. Unexpectedly, even though Lan Wangji's face was frighteningly cold, he unstrapped his sword anyway.
Zixuan pulls back his sword as a disciple tried to take it "Us Jin stand with our swords. If you want our swords, you'll have to take us with you"
Wen Chao, "You dare challenge his excellency?" Zixuan speaks up "Childe Wen, we are here to be indoctrinated. Do not push it too far" Wen Chao walks down the platform "See what I was talking about? Some of you already have bad intentions. Am I right? Second Childe Lan" He looks at Wangji
"Some of you not only just Lan Clan of Gusu, are trying to stage a coup. Led by these two" he points at the Jie siblings and suddenly pointed at Zixuan "You are one of them. Soldiers, take him into custody" Zixuan grabs the hilt but Qingyang stops him "Please pardon him from this matter. It is Jin clan's family precept, our Childe has no intention to offend you. I ask fo your forgiveness" she was about to bow but a hand stops her.
"Are you telling me that you're still bitter about not being invited to our friend group's gathering?" Xue's eyes widened as he held his sister "My father will hear about this. Is that why we're here? Well I must take it as an honor. Being generous to people like me" she spoke mockingly by this time Qingyang had already convinced Zixuan to hand in his sword.
Wen Chao smirks "That's right, I took time to tell my father to invite you mannerless being" he went back to walking to his platform as he spoke of not showing mercy the nect time someone dares to disobey them.
"Thank you" Qingyang says to Chun
The so-called "indoctrination" of the QishanWen Sect included only handing out copies of "Quintessence of the Wen Sect", booklets full of the stories and quotes of the Wen Sect's past leaders and best cultivators. Everyone had one. They were demanded to memorize them well and keep them in mind at all times.
Wen Chao, on the other hand, stood above them every single day. He'd give a speech to everyone and request that they cheer for him, make him the role model to every word, every action. During night-hunts, he would bring the disciples with him and make them run at the very front. They'd scout the path, distract the demons and beasts while he'd appear at the last moment and easily knock down the prey that had already been beaten to a pulp by others. After he cut off its head, he'd go around boasting that it came from the victory he had achieved alone. If there were anyone whom he found especially displeasing, he'd pull them out and scold them in front of everyone, as though said person was lower than even swine.
Xue, Huaisang, and Wei Wuxian were whispering to themselves, Wen Chao had let our his whip which almost hitting the three if it weren't for Chun grabbing it "What are you guys whispering about? Is it a rebellion" he tried to pull back his whip but Chun's grip was tight "Are you that paranoid to think that way?"
"You!" Wen Chao gave Zhuliu a look and when the core melter rush go her, she pulls the whip as she step to the side and wrapped it aroun his wrist before pulling Zhuliu down, stepping on the rope to keep him grounded as she elbowed Wen Chao back.
This caused the othe Wen disciples to draw their swords and point at her but she just raised her hands with a smug look as she steps off the whip they tied Zhuliu "Mhhh I wish I have my sword" Xue was held back by Jiang Cheng and Ling Wun
"You really think you can-" Zhuliu tried to melt her core from behind but she just did a split and pushed herself back through his legs before standing "Let me warn you Wen Chao, I can tolerate your behavior towards me. But if you lay even a single finger on my brother. Even if my core melts I'll make sure to disintegrate your sould"
Everyone was shaken up by what happened and Wen Chao didn't dwell on the matter. Xue rush to Chun's side "You didn't have to do that. Now Wen Chao will never let this pass" Chun grits her teeth "It's out of impulse...that Zhuliu had more control than we expect but I got his flow"

Besides being bitter about the gathering, he was still bitter from what happened with the archery competition. He was irritated at, Wei Wuxian, Lan Xichen, Jin Zixuan, and Lan Wangji. Along with the Jie siblings who proved they weren't nobodies. Since he was above the rest in this indoctrination, he made sure to di0lay his power.
The one who suffered the most was Jin Zixuan. If not for how the other disciples of the LanlingJin Sect stopped him and the fact that Wen Zhuliu wasn't easy to deal with, he would have willingly killed himself along with Wen Chao on the first day.
On the other hand, Lan Wangji seemed to be in a state of inner peace and absolute indifference, as though his soul had already risen out of his body.
Wei Wuxian had been through years of Madam Yu's diverse methods of scolding when he was at Lotus Pier. He began to laugh whenever he stepped off the platform, hardly blinking an eye to such moments.
The Jie siblings suddenly had a change of attitude after the incident. They kept to themselve, became silent and compliant.
Today, same as usual, the group was hustled awake by the Wen disciples again.
Like a group of livestock, they were driven toward the next destination of their night-hunts. The place that they were going this time was called Dusk-Creek Mountain.
The deeper they went into the forest, the thicker the branches over their heads became, and the larger the shadows below them grew. Aside from the sounds of leaves and footsteps, they couldn't hear anything else. The calls of birds, beasts and beetles were unusually perceivable amid the silence.
After a while, the group met with a creek. Scattered throughout the gurgling water were maple leaves that floated along.
Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng walked while muttering insults at the Wen-dogs in every way possible. Inadvertently, he turned around, glanced, and saw a figured clothed in white. Lan WangJi was not far away from him.
Due to his slow pace, Lan WangJi was toward the back of the line. Within these past few days, there were many times when Xue approaoned him and offer a hand but he politley declined.
