章節 25: Ambulance
Since the call was not much of a help they walked straight to the reception in front of them. A skinny boy in his usual hospital uniform was sitting on the chair with his face resting on his palm. The boy dozes off and wakes up from a sudden noise then dozes off again.Exhaustion of yesterday's night shift was clearly visible on his under eyes.
"Excuse me" Jake knocked on the wooden desk making the person wake up unwillingly and stretching his arms wide.
"Yes….. How may..." Yawns and continues " I help you…."his eyes still shut as he managed to mumble those words.
"We want to know about an ambulance. Have you seen this person before? " Jake takes the picture from Sid's hand and shows it to the receptionist.
This time he opens his eyes slowly and looks into the picture and back to Jake " you want to know about the Ambulance or this person? Choose one! "
"Both" Jake answers and says again "just tell me if you have seen this person or not? "
"Let me ask you first. Who are you? "
"I'm from…." He stops and looks at Sid who was standing at the back and checking on his phone. His attention shifted towards Jake because of being continuously stared at and walked forward.
"What is it? " He asks in the reception.
"You, Who are you? Why will I give you someone's details? "
Sid shows him his ID and the guy looks at it then again at Jake as he raises an eyebrow to him as a sign for asking him to show his one too.
"Will I hang around taking a prisoner with me? " Sid answers before Jake could answer and he's not at all thankful to him for covering up the situation at least not in that way.
"Oh yeah that's right! " The guy says and shifts to the monitor along with his chairs. He's fingers typed a few things on the keyboard quickly and he asked again "date? "
"12 October" They answer in unison.
" Aah there are a bunch of people who came here on the same day. As for the ambulance, almost 9 calls were made or maybe even more "he says.
" That is why I asked if you have seen this person "Jake says.
"No I have not seen him and by the way, it was someone else's shift that day! "
"Oh"
" Can we see all of them now? "Sid asks.
" Two of them are out and the rest are parked in the ground floor "
"Okay. Can you please check it again,if there was any case around… aah, one O'clock. "
"Oh I guess there was one. " He says.
"Do you have any contact with the person who was on duty that day in place of you? "Jake asks.
"Hey, we already know that there was a case in that exact time, don't we? " Sid whispers to Jake.
"What if it's not Kunal's case but someone who came at the same time? "He answers.
" Aah, just a minute. Here it is "he passes off a small notepad with probably all the employees numbers written on it. They looked up to him and the boy said" There, it is that last second one. Rita is her name "
"Oh,thanks"Sid says as he dials the number on his phone.
" It's ringing "he says to Jake.
" Wait, are you calling her now? "The receptionist asks.
" Yeah, What do you think we'll do with this number now? "
"She'll be here in a few seconds. My shift ended ten minutes ago but no one is here to take my place. Then you two came up. "
"Should have told earlier" He says with a fake smile on his face.
"See, there she is coming. She's late again" He says looking towards the entrance as he starts gathering his things and stuffing them all haphazardly into his tiny bag.
"So so sorry. I promise I'll not be late again"she came running with all her hair flying and somehow managing to speak out those words.
"This is your hundredth time breaking the promise. I don't trust you anymore." He somehow managed to push his things on the bag and zip it off.
"I'll stay till five today, is that okay? " Still panting.
"I start at five! " He says and is about to leave but stops "anyways they have a few talks with you" He said pointing to the two persons watching the whole scene all along .He walks off bading goodbye to all the people around there.
"Yes" She entered through the small door attached to the broad desk which connects it to the wall on the back.
"Was it you who took the night shift on 12 October? "Sid asks.
"Let me check the register"
"You can say that easily, can't you? That guy said you usually have day shifts and that must be the only day when you took a night shift" Jake says.
"Oh yeah, it's written here" She smiles sheepishly.
"And have you seen this person? " Jake showed her Kunals photo.
"Umm…. I feel like I have seen him. But I'm not sure"
"Around 1 O'clock, he was here on 12 October. " Sid says.
"If that's the case, let me see wait. What's his name? "
"Kunal Gill"
"Yes he was here,with someone called Disha Gill."
"So did he ask for an ambulance? "Jake asked.
"Yeah, he did. "
They both looked at each other and then back to the girl.
