"This is going to be interesting." Killion's wolf was smiling, his white teeth bared. Mate wolf crouched back. His hackles raised, looking even bigger than before.
"I'm reporting back to the Packhouse." Harvey said.
"Include Titanium and Hank but leave me out." I told him.
"Understood." Harvey responded.
I made eye contact with mate. Him being here with me made me even more fearless than before... And calmer too. What a strange phenomenon this soul mate thing.
But an even stranger phenomenon was parked on the road in front of us. Déjà vu?
"It's the same van as before." Harvey confirmed, "Even the number plate matches."
It's as if the goddess had planned that I met it again.
Harvey was obliged to add after reporting back to the pack, "Alpha said to tell you to be careful and keep in touch."
Oh. Dad's not going to rush down with the cavalry this time. I cast a quick glance back the the warriors fanned out behind me. I was trying to figure if he trusted me or the men with me.
"The trainees have been stationed at the back. The warriors awaiting your orders, Alpha." Titanium reported.
Oh, he called me alpha again. Muahahaha. And he was so military sounding that I must get him to host the next ultimate dogeball game. Imagine how much cooler it would be! Hahaha
"Alpha?" Titanium was still waiting on my order. This was so fun. The funnest. Like RPG in full blown 3D.
"Secure a safe point out of sight." I said. "Then wait for my return."
To Killion and Harvey, I was like "Let's go play a bit first."
We crept up to the waiting van. It was like a big white sitting duck.
"Take them alive." I decided. We should find out how they got their van back. Didn't the Lorents confiscate it the last time?
I cast a sidelong look at mate wolf. He was quiet, alert, and had not left my side. Mate wolf that couldn't talk or scold me was nice. Hahaha. He seemed like a sensible wolf, he won't kill on sight, right?
Well, no time to worry about that, I shot a quick order to Killion and Harvey, "If Bell goes on a rampage, try to keep at least one of them alive."
And then without waiting for their acknowledgement, I sprinted out into the clearing. We had to be fast.
The white van restarted when they saw us but again like before, I crashed against the side of the van, tilting it. Harvey's red brown wolf came down hard soon after, just as the wheels started spinning. Now that was different. They didn't have the sense to do that the first time. The van started moving forward on the two wheels still on the ground. Luckily the two white wolves joined in and with the extra wolf ramming in at full speed, just like before, the van tipped and crashed on its side.
The rogues inside curse. There were two up front and another two in the back. They climbed out and shifted, but Harvey and Killion each took down one. Mate seemed to have caught on and had the third one pinned down. I'm glad he was able to follow the pack just by reading our physical signals. I caught the fourth one. It barely tried to resist.
"Get someone to tie up these guys." I mindlinked to the betas.
Titanium and four other warriors came out. Titanium shifted first. "Shift." He ordered.
"Quickly." I added, snarling.
The rogues only heard the snarling part, but it rushed them just the same. They hurried and shifted so that Titanium and his men could take them away. It was as if they felt safer being captured. I didn't wait around to watch. Heading to the other side of the van with Bell and soon Killion and Harvey.
I started trying to right the van. Killion shifted and Titanium joined him to lend the needed human arms and hands to give the van the initial grip off the ground. The rest of us pushed the van up. I was very careful not to look anywhere to see anything I would regret.
I was lucky that Mate and Harvey had the sensibility to block my view by standing their wolves on either side of me.
After we straightened the van, Killion asked, "What now?"
"We go back and wait to see what the van was waiting for." I answered, but my eyes were on the treeline where Beta Lorent and his warriors had appeared from the last time.
Harvey caught my line of sight, "You don't suppose the Lorents will show up again, do you?"
At the mention of Lorents, Killion started growling lowly.
When Killion started growling at the Lorent name, mate wolf started growling at Killion.
Grrr... These two will be useless to me like this.
"Titanium, please set ambush. Bait is the van." Nothing beats a well trained warrior. Reliability was everything in battle.
"Should we at least put one rogue inside?" Titanium asked.
"Good idea." I decided, "Throw in two of the dumber ones in the back."
They did so. Conveniently, they had lots of rope in the back of the van. So the warriors tied up the rogues and locked the van door.
The rest of the warriors fanned out in a practiced ambush formation. Titanium reported that the other rogues are secured at the safe point with the trainee wolves and a few warriors. I just had to trust them to keep themselves and our safe point safe. Honestly, I'm glad the girls sat this one out, especially Savy. I would have worried too much if I thought Savy was a risk.
Okay. Now we wait.
We didn't even have to wait long.
{Wolves approaches}
"Had they been warned off?" Killion worried, but the moment the question left his mouth, there was the sound of a single car, a dark red car. It was driving fast.
I could sense the tension, "Wait." I alpha commanded. The wolves stilled. "Keep your scent out of the wind."
A little movement as they checked themselves. But Titanium had placed the warriors well. As long as no one did anything stupid. We were well hidden.
The red car was followed by two, no three other cars. We kept waiting.
The red car slowed, it seemed surprised by the stationary van on the road, it tried to squeeze past by driving over the ditch on the side.
But the other three cars came quite quickly. One of them suddenly sped up, went around the van from the other side, and effectively blocked red car's escape before it could even pass the van.
It was very exciting. Like something on TV... Three white cars chasing a red one. The doors of the white cars opened and Beta Lorent and a few other warriors got out.
Beta Lorent slammed the van with the palm of his hand, "Stop f****** back there. You nearly let the target escape!"
We could hear it. We could hear all of it.
"Stay your ground." I mindlinked my warriors.
My warriors, I liked the sound of that, MY WARRIORS stayed absolutely silent.
One of the Lorent warriors rapped on the window of the red car, "I'm sorry Lady Olivia. It's the end of the road for you."
How many Lorents? Eight.
How many wolves on our side? More. Hahaha.
My maths is as bad as Wolfie's in wolf form. OMG, I don't know why these wolves followed me.
"Come on, let's seal their exit." I started flanking towards where the cars came from, "Titanium, get ready. Attack on signal. Let's catch them all."
"That's Beta Lorent and Lorent warriors." Harvey warned.
"Really? But they aren't in uniform. They're probably just pretending to be Lorent, had you ever seen a Lorent drive such old beat up car models?" It's true. The three white cars were old and dirty.
Killion was chuckling. Wolf mate remained stoic next to me. When we could close in their entrance and only escape point, I walked out into the open.
"I will allow them to surrender and explain themselves." I added graciously.
Killion and Harvey followed suit, fanning out behind me. Only mate wolf stalked half a step forward, as if to protect me.
"Look!" The old woman cried out, "The goddess doesn't lie! The Green Packland unites. Look! It's the drawing of your doom! See, they come now - the black of Night Leaf, the red of Morning Light, the white of the Lorent. They have come to end the reign of the rogue king. Your wicked days are over fake Beta!--"
I wished she would continue... Probably as much as Beta Lorent wished she would stop, because he did stop her, by shooting her at point blank. The shot rang out. I hate guns.
The old woman slumped down in a heap. Then Beta Lorent ordered his warriors to attack. They shifted, he shifted. And while they charged forwards, he charged back.
"Go! Go! Go!" I signaled the other warriors, they poured out. It was overkill, but I think everyone wanted a bite of the fun. I chased Beta Lorent, darting between the clashing wolves, Mate and Killion at my heel.
I'm sure Harvey could handle himself.
Mate wolf looked furious as he gave chased. At one point he lunged and bit Lorent wolf's leg. Wasn't that his own uncle? But Beta Lorent was super desperate, he actually pulled out his leg, tearing off a piece of himself and scrambled into warlock lands.
We hadn't sealed this side... I didn't expect a packland wolf to enter warlock land.
I knew better than to chase in after him. Killion was pissed like hell. He kept pacing the fringes trying to sniff the older Beta out. Wow, it was no secret that Killion had a bone to pick.
But Killion wasn't the only one. Mate snarled and growled and gnashed his teeth together. Beta Lorent had long gone deep into the woods. He definitely didn't want to be caught by us.
I headed back to the white van. Harvey and Titanium were taking care of it in human form. They had found clothes in the white car - Lorent Warrior tracksuits. They also found more rope and had tied up the captured Lorent wolves.
Two of our patrol trucks had come round to pick up the prisoners. Flynn was here, he was frowning at the Lorent Warriors.
"They claim to be Lorent warriors." Harvey told Flynn loudly enough for everyone to hear. Good Beta.
"But we are! You'll have to answer to Alpha Lorent for this!" One of the prisoners yelled.
Flynn hit him hard from behind, "Shut up and follow procedures. If you check out, we'll send you back."
This settled the Lorent warriors. They seemed smug even, like they were sure that they would be check out soon.
Grrr...
Anyway, Flynn took care of the clean up. Harvey dealt with the mindlinked reporting. Titanium positioned the warriors for the march back. It was interesting to watch.
A few of the warriors were tasked to drive the white cars and van back to Base One. This was on the outskirts of our town, and had its own bunker, patrol station, and underground dungeon.
We never used our underground dungeons so much before. This one was usually used for Halloween events and once for a location shoot for a werewolf movie. It was quite a popular movie too... But that was a few years back.
But since the dungeons in our pack house's second basement were full, we had no choice but to house the new prisoners here.
Dad and Beta Lucas and Gamma Harry were at the moment grilling the rogues at the Pack House Dungeon, but they said they would drive out to meet us. They hadn't cracked much out of them. Hopefully, we could process these prisoners quicker. We're running out of space.
I was still in wolf form. The wolves were escorting the line of vehicles to Base One. As we followed the road my Wolfie recognized the smells of home, our pack town was nearby.
"Harvey, I'm taking Killion and Bell back." I mindlinked, "You stay and keep tabs on everything. Don't release anyone before I get back."
"Will you be driving back, princess? Do you mind Ki driving you back in my truck? It'll be nice to have access to my things." Harvey said. This beta, always so polite.
"Yeah, ok. Be right back." I dropped out of the formation. I noticed how the other warriors filled it in. Killion and Bell followed me out without question.
I sniffed the air, it was fresh and icy. The moon was still shining down brightly. I broke out into an easy run back home. Killion and Rebel followed like two white fluffy...snowballs, the dry cold air had caused their fur to fluff up.
