章節 24: Recalling a Hazy Memory
In a matter of minutes, Lucien was able to finish eating all the loaves of bread that Anastasia had offered.
The entire thing nonplussed her to a certain degree. After all, he might as well have broken her own fastest record. He ate them all as if he's simply drinking a glass of water.
"Woah... You really are hungry, huh?" she voiced out incredulously, blinking at the empty plate on the table.
"Thank you for that. It's been a while since I tasted something that delicious," he replied with a delighted smile, dazzling her for a moment.
"Y-Yeah, that's great. You're welcome..."
Anastasia doesn't know what to think of anymore. She just doesn't get anything at all.
Lucien sounded so genuinely elated when he said that, giving her the impression that he indeed didn't get to eat anything today and was really hungry. If he's not the son of one of the wealthiest men in this country, she wouldn't be this surprised and bemused.
"After all, how come a billionaire's son is still starving with all that money?" she wondered silently, regarding him with a contemplative gaze.
But now that she thought about it, she could just be assuming things all along. This guy may have turned out to be a completely different person who only looks like Lucien August in the end.
"Really, thank you for everything, Ms. Anastasia-"
"Say, are you..." she then suddenly cut him off, taking him aback.
"You're really Lucien August, right?"
Then, he paused.
For a moment, Lucien only remains silent and averts his gaze. His sunny smile then drops slowly, seemingly looking disappointed out of nowhere.
"Oh, so... You actually knew me all along, huh?" he muttered with a dismayed tone.
"Well, of course, you're that model guy who just had a photoshoot in the park earlier-"
"W-Wait, how did you know?!"
"Uhhh... Because I was there?"
"Doing what?"
"Celebrating my birthday with my friends?"
"Oh."
With that, Lucien pulls himself together again after being put on the edge for a second. For some reason, he reverts back to being withdrawn and reserved either.
He looked like he was still going to say something earlier when she cut him off out of nowhere. Right now, though, he doesn't seem to be in the mood to engage in a conversation any longer.
"In any case, I should focus on the fact that he is indeed Lucien August all along... Yet why would he be starving, freezing cold and alone in the street at this hour...?" Anastasia continued to ponder silently.
"I can think of other reasons, but I don't wanna assume things without evidence, especially when the first one in my list is the probability that he's being abused or something."
Perhaps, that's a bit of a stretch, but even then, anything is possible. Though she may have no other details to pull out a more probable presumption from, she still has her instincts and discernment.
With that in mind, Anastasia just continues regarding Lucien with a deeply ponderous expression on her face.

"Ughhhhh..."
At present time, Anastasia suddenly finds herself going down with a headache. She just happened to force herself to fully recover her memory about this entire meeting.
Lucien's face appears very hazy and obscure in her head even though she can tell his features without any problem. It's like being allowed to see merely the small picture, but never the big one.
"Lucien August..." she breathed out, brows scrunched tightly together.
"Who are you?"
At this point, the drumming pain in her head is getting too excruciating. She can't help but put her hands on her temples, her fingers burying deep into her hair as she began to grasp them tightly.
It's just all so nauseating, befuddling and unbearable for Anastasia that she didn't realize she's slowly losing consciousness.
