"Lucky for you, I love sneaking out. And exploring the city now and then."
"Wait here, I'm going to get something." She said and walked towards the car that had parked in front of them.
"Is my camera here?" She asked.
The driver furrowed his eyebrows, but he nodded his head. He opened a compartment in the seat next to him and he handed her the camera.
"Thanks, take my car and park it outside the aquarium restaurant on 87-93 Cooper street in 3 hours." She ordered and walked back to James.
"I bet you don't take pictures of yourself." She raised an eyebrow, showing him the camera.
"I do." He lied.
"Well, portraits…."
"Right."
"....family portraits and photographs."
"Pfft, well today we are taking lots of pictures. It's going to my gallery."
James sighed and gave in. He then started walking after her, trying to catch up.
"Gallery?" He asked.
"Yup! I dedicated an entire room to it. I have loads of pictures. Oh, by the way, I have a favor to ask."
"I ditched work to give you this tour, so please consider it."
"What favor?"
"Answer my question when we ask it." She told him, "You can decide not to but it will affect our future relationship so I would give it thought if I were you." She shrugged.
"Okay." He agreed without hesitation.
"Are you sure? No, take-backs."
"No, take-backs." He responded and caught her hand with a charming smile. He looked into her eyes again and his eyes focused on her only.
Was she overthinking or was he looking at her an unusual amount of time today?
She tilted her head, slightly confused. How can he be so cute? Gosh, this morning she was angry at him because of his unknown motives and here she admitted that she has a special soft spot for him and even calling him cute.
'Why the hell do I even find him cute?'
He gripped her hand, waiting for her to take the lead.
"Oh, right…. we'll walk through the bridge till we reach the small town. Trust me, it's way more interesting than the city itself." She grinned at him and led the way.
When they reached the bridge, Clair led James through a tunnel instead.
"Don't worry, I know where I'm going." She smiled at him.
He had passed this bridge over ten times and he had never realized there was a tunnel to cross it, much less such a beautiful view.
"Few people know about this tunnel, and that's why I'm the best guide you could ever ask for." She winked playfully.
"It's even better at night."
She looked out from the glass windows and smiled. He walked next to her and nodded his head. "I would like it if you bring me here at night someday."
She turned her head and gave him a mischievous smile.
"What are you up to?" He asked, narrowing his eyes.
She placed her hand on his shoulders, and she bit her lip. "Your royal highness, our next stop is the subway station!" She pulled him by the shoulder and led him on.
God, she was enjoying this way too much.
"I've never-"
"I know, as expected." She grinned. "We'll be making two stops on the royal train to the royal town." She teased.
"We don't actually put 'royal' before everything you know?"
"Well, they do in the movies. The royal palace, royal tea, royal sandwich...do you have royal chicken wings too? I'd love to eat some of those."
"You're exaggerating."
She only shrugged in response.
"We do have royal tea though…."
"See! I knew it. Isn't that tea that only the royal family gets to drink? 'The Royal Tea' haha"
"Hmm, we don't actually call it 'The Royal Tea' though." He corrected her.
"En, close enough."
He only shook his head as he watched her laugh quietly.
He might not express it the way she did, but he was also happy.
…..
After the 15-minute train ride, Clair and James walked out of the train station.
"Well, that was a fresh experience." He mumbled.
"Was it fun?" She asked.
"Yeah."
"Hmm, only because there were barely any people. Trust me, it sucks when it's full."
"Well, you sound like you know a lot about this. Do you ride them often?" He asked as they walked out of the train station by climbing up the stairs.
When they were out in the open again, they met were crowded streets. It was surprising for James because he had only walked among so many people at such a close distance once, and that was when he escaped the castle. He was 14 then, but he had never been out this long without many bodyguards behind him.
Right now he would get scolded by his parents. After all, he was out with zero protection. Obviously, there were always people protecting him from the shadows, but he had lost them, raising no suspicion from Clair. Noting that Clair had not noticed their presence, it assured him he really had the best bodyguards.
"Once in a while, when I can escape my bodyguards. It's tough, oh by the way there's still one who hasn't lost sight of us. He's persistent I have to say, he even rode the train with us, how dedicated." She commented, and she walked towards a stand selling candy.
After picking out a few types of candies, she paid with cash and walked back to him.
Rendered speechless, James remained silent.
Well, I guess that sums it up. His bodyguards need more training!
"What?" She asked, opening the candy wrapper to a bag of gummy worms. She then raised her head and her mouth formed an 'O'.
"I wasn't supposed to notice that... right?"
"No, you weren't…. but thanks in advance."
"For what?"
"For protecting me. You helped get rid of all my bodyguards, doesn't that mean you are volunteering to be my own personal bodyguard?" He asked with a grin.
"Eh?"
"I guess you are under my very strict supervision now." She smiled and pulled out a gummy worm, only to place it in his mouth with a seductive smile.
She was obviously playing along, not at all expecting a counter-attack.
"I'll be in your care, Ms. Bodyguard." He locked his eyes with her for the third or maybe sixth time today. He then ate the gummy worm, not forgetting to bite her finger, returning the same seductive manner.
Clair cleared her throat, and she retrieved her finger nervously.
'Lesson learned.' She thought.
She noted down in her mind: *He attacks the same way you do but twice as powerful. With extra charm as well.*
"It's better if you keep me close, don't you think Ms. Bodyguard?" He asked, clasping her palm.
"Sounds like a plan."
For Clair and James, this was nothing but a fun date. To get to know each other, to talk, and to fill their curiosity.
Is this how couples date?
They never had the chance to date before, and they had been curious. And so when the chance came, they accepted it without question.
It's funny how they didn't realize how deeper and deeper they walked into their own trap.
It wouldn't be easy of course, after all, they both insisted that they had no capability to love someone. They had both suffered and had their hearts broken.
Deep inside, they both hated themselves for a very long time. It was hard for them to accept the idea of falling in love. They refused to believe sinners like themselves could be happy.
But eventually, they would be proved wrong by none other but themselves.
Hey! Do let me know in the comments if you want a holiday special treat. I'll add some short scenes if you agree!
Love you all, Stay safe~
