章節 50: Chapter Fifty: Dry and unromantic
"I'm in a good mood so I'm giving you a chance to make up for what you did earlier."
"What did I do?" He asked standing up and walking towards her.
"You kissed me without my permission that's rude." She responded.
He pulled her by the waist and thought back to what he had done. Well, when he saw her he wanted a kiss so he asked for one. He didn't expect her to think it was rude.
"I'm sorry, I will ask for permission next time."
Clair placed her hand on her forehead and laughed. So he's planning on doing it again….
She sighed and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Anyway let's dance. I haven't done this in a while." She closed her eyes when she heard the low tune filling the room.
"You like this song too?" He asked positioning himself for the dance and she nodded.
An image of her parents dancing to this song flashed across her mind making her smile. She opened her eyes and he lifted her hand to twirl her around.
"Do you know...when I want something I usually just take it?"
"That's a bad habit. You can't always have everything at the palm of your hand." She chuckled.
"You aren't wrong about that. Even if I want you I know you aren't the type to give in."
"It depends on what way you want me."
"I don't know yet. But I will find out soon. You know how attracted I am to you, I can't help it." He admitted.
Clair pursed her lips.
"Can you promise me something?" she asked leaning on his shoulder, their bodies swinging with the tune of the song.
"It depends."
"If you ever fall in love with me don't tell me." Her tone showed how serious she was about it.
"I told you since the start, I can offer anything…"
"Except love... I know. But the way we are drawn to each other scares me. I'm afraid if there is the slightest possibility, you shouldn't tell me."
His grip on her waist tightened.
"I promise." It was hard to say that. It was even hard to swallow after he said that. Something told him he was bound to break that promise.
His life was changing drastically with her by his side and he knew how to admit it. Slowly his perspective of love started changing. It was too hard for him to understand how he felt but for now, he could be sure it was pure attraction.
Any man would in his situation. She's an amazing woman, he felt ridiculous for thinking that he could marry her without any attachments.
Clair's body relaxed instantly. That was a relief!
When the song ended she walked back to her phone and turned off the speaker.
"By the way who knew you would be a secret sweet tooth. I found your stash…" She teased.
James placed a finger on his lips and winked. "Shh, don't tell anyone."
"I won't only if you share…" She smirked. "Lucky for you the new package is arriving in four days." He replied.
Clair grinned and they walked towards her room.
He cleared up a side of her closet for him and helped him settle in. While he showered she changed into a nightdress and laid down in her bed.
She closed her eyes and rested for a while.
Well, this isn't bad. Her day wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. Maybe because she met the kids at the orphanage today. They always bring her happiness!

When James came outside he found her laying down. He knelt beside the bed and he examined her face properly.
Knowing she was still awake he spoke. "Do you mind coming to see my parents tomorrow?" He asked.
"Tomorrow? Are you sure your mother won't try to kill me again?"
After agreeing to tomorrow's plan they went to sleep.
It wasn't like James expected at all. The last few times they had slept on the same bed she always seemed to be on guard. Today, she slept in her own home and her bed with tranquility. She was completely relaxed.
That's when he realized that she likes sticking to people and places that make her comfortable. He set his mind to get closer to her so that she could trust him and feel more comfortable around him. He wanted that, he really wanted to get along with her.
If he had a reason to justify his actions and new thoughts it would be what he's been hearing all day from the people close to him.
'James, I pity your wife. I really do. She got a dry and unromantic husband.'
'If you keep that up she will get bored of you and look for someone else.'
'Stop being so stone-faced or she will get scared and run away.'
To think those words came from his closest friends. He was hurt and offended.
"Am I really dry and unromantic?" He mumbled.
"Yes." She answered.
Wow, now he felt even more offended.
He's inexperienced so he doesn't know how to fix that so he bluntly asked, "How do I become romantic?"
Clair almost choked on her saliva.
As if I know...
'We are in the same boat mate.' She thought.
This man became even more shocking every time she met him. He was showing her different sides of him she didn't expect to see. Did he not realize this?
He has shown her how ruthless he can be, how he can actually smile and tease, awkward and clueless moments like these, the moments where he's just completely blunt. Just how many sides does he have?
"I- I don't know either...Ummm. Who told you that?" She opened her eyes looking into his while controlling his laughter.
James tilted his head and quietly continued staring at her.
'Beautiful….'
Clair stiffened when he brought his face close, her cheeks turned a cute shade of pink. She closed her eyes and waited for his lips to land on hers.
"Right...I forgot to ask permission…"
She opened her eyes and blinked.
"You ruined the moment!" She flicked his forehead and sat up while shaking her head. "I'll take a shower next." She picked up her things and closed the bathroom door.
She leaned on the door and placed her hands on her face to cover up her blushing embarrassed face.
