章節 10: Chapter 10: Archery is Her Game

XEÑA 🎯

It's Friday... the day for the fittest, P.E. day.

We were all gathered here in the archery ground. Not just our section but also the 10-A and 10-B. We were settled for four lines in each section while the attention must be continuously on front, to our P.E. instructor together with three SHS students, 2 boys and 1 girl which is basically my sister.

Confused with the setup? Oh, well. Dito sa Faulker Academy, since na isa sa mga priorities nila ay sports, P.E. subject here is not in an ordinary session. Imbes na by section at ang klase ay good only for one hour, here you will be in a P.E. class for 3 hours not just together with your classmates but rather with other sections. Ito yung oras na makikita mo yung abilidad ng taga-ibang section and you have to expect for so much judgment, comparison, criticism, competition, and so on. So better be good, better be not affected.

"Last week, I already lectured you regarding archery. And as expected, after lecturing, performance will be the next. So the question here is, do you still remember how I taught you to use the bow and arrow?" Mr. Lorenzo instructed. And the field was awakened by noise. And who are the most grade conscious? Definitely belong to the Section A. Could I say that P.E subject is the weakness of most section A stidents? Anyway, in my case, can I say that I can't relate to their topic since I'm not yet here last week? Someone in the section A raised a hand.

"Sir, I'm just concern. How would you deal with the transferee in the section C who did not reach your lesson last week?" She asked. Could I just thank her for being concern or should I say it is just a 'palusot'? And here's the bad thing, all eyes are on me.

"Oo nga naman Sir. Kawawa naman siya dahil magpehperform siyang walang ideya. Baka sabihin niyang unfair ito since na mababagsak na nga, mapapahiya pa," another section A who had second the motion. What the hell! And the place were filled by laughter.

"Whoa! Such a concerned student," I said with amusement. I looked tou our instructor and assured him. "But I will not bother you, sir. I could watch their performance and learn from them." Then my gaze shifted to my fellow students definitely eyeing those students who underestimated me. "Besides, it's not ALL your problem anymore. It's my grade and technically not grade conscious so be worried with yours," I explained and gave them a fake and insulting smile which made them frown.

"BASIC!" Fredrich commented who were positioned in my right side together with the other boys. Also, I heard Kaizzer whistled for that.

"Well then, it's settled. It's not a problem for her so I would not give her a special treatment," Mr. Lorenzo said in a relief. "Anyway, whether you like it or not, you did listen and learn from my lesson or not, performance is still performance. HINDI MARUNONG IS NOT AN EXCUSE! Even though it's a failure, at least you've tried!" Ma-awtoridad na sabi ni Sir. May pinanghuhugutan!

"Now, here 's what you are going to do. You see, may tatlong board dito sa harapan ninyo. The first one has a range of two meters from that line, then the other is three meters and the last board has four meters. So in every play, there will be three persons, one in each section who will perform simultaneously. Section A will be positioning first at a four-meter range, section B is in three-meter and section C is in a two-meter. After finishing that area, you will proceed to the other areas. So here's the routine. For section A, it will be 4 to 2 to 3-meter, for Section B, 3 to 4 to 2-meter and for Section C, 2 to 3 to 4-meter. Understand?"

"Yes, sir."

"All right. Now, make a line according to your order in the class record. Boys first and girls, you can sit in the back and watched for a while. By the way, the three Seniors here will do the record," he lastly instructed.

But before I made my way on the back, someone tapped my shoulder. It's Vendrick together with the others.

"Hey, Xeng. Be good there and learn from our performance," Vendrick suggested and I slightly chuckled.

"Hoping I could learn," I winked at him.

"Tss," it's Ace. Problema neto?

Well, they don't know how this game means to me.

And there, the performance started. Sa section C, nauna si Darryl. As he aimed the target in a 2-meter range, it's a bullseye ganun din sa 3-meter at sa 4-meter, it was almost that he got 9 points. Mostly, nagagawang maka-bullseye nga lalaki sa 2 meter. In Fredrich's case, he hit the bullseye in 2 and 4-meter at sa 3-meter, it was just 8. Now it's Faulker's turn. Whoah! Should I still stated it? Yeah, straight bullseye. Kay Kaizzer naman, he gained 9 points sa 2-meter and the other two bullseye. While kay Vendrick, bullseye 2 and 3 then tye 4-meter is only 8. Yeah, not bad. The lowest score for boys is one sa 3-meter.

"Now girls, it's your turn," Mr. Lorenzo stated.

"Good job, guys," I told the boys.

"Yiee, Xeng. Do your best," Darryl cheered.

Now, since I am a transferee, my name was placed as the last in class record. At panigurado, kaabang-abang ang performance ko ngayon. All right, I will give them satisfaction.

For the first play...aw, nakaka-disappoint. Walang naka-bullseye. I smirked. What she had said earlier, I think she's referring to herself that she somewhat predicted her future in this performance. Ok, nakabawi siya sa 2-meter, it's a bullseye and sa 3-meter, she gained six points. By the way, yung two girls na nang-away sa akin noon, mga section A pala yun. Oh well, they have that fair performance. Sa kalagitnaan ng laro, there's a girl from section B na nagstand-out. She is somewhat nerdy because of her eyeglass at may oagkamahinhin but I'm sure she's pretty, konting ayos lang. Paanong nag-stand out? Looking at her, akala mo di kayang pumana pero she made it to the bullseye, both the 2 and 3-meter pero sa 4-meter, it's a 7. Wow!

And now it's my turn together with those last students in Section A and B. Pumwesto na ako as I grabbed the bow and arrow. I slightly smiled. And probably, she's the only one who will not be surprised of my performance.

Bullseye! I could hear how they gasped for that.

For the three-meter range, I positioned myself as I aimed the target. Still, bulsseye!

"Whoah!"

"Does she know this game?"

"Possible. Her sister is an archer," someone said. I smiled bitterly for that thought.

Now, it's the four-meter range at wala pa sa mga babae ang nakabulsseye.

"Sus. Di niya kaya yan," a guy shouted. Talaba ba?

"Shut up boy if you don't want to be almost shot by that arrow," Faulker said and I smiled for that. I remembered what happened yesterday.

"Yeah. That fucking almost shot," Kaizzer commented. Here I go.

"What the--!"

"Did she--?"

"Oh my--!"

Bullseye? Yes it is. And as I faced them, shock was recognized on their faces. And the Scarlet Primos? They gave me a slow clap except that Faulker who just smirked. Also, I found our instructor amused as he smiled at me ganun din ang kapatid ko na nakangiti.

Fredrich commented.

"That's it. Kaya pala nadali mo sin Kaizzer at Ace kahapon," Vendrick said habang tumatawa.

"Archery is her game kase," Darryl said na nilakasan ang boses na parang nagpaparinig sa iba.

"Ok students. Form in line," sabi ng instructor namin.

But before I could get myself in a line, someone grabbed me from my waist and whispered in my ear.

"It's wrong to belittle my Vrielle, huh." Damn it, Faulker! Papatayin yata ako sa mga pada-moves nito.

"Nice game, students. You did your best! But I just want you to know that some of you made me amaze. To tell you the truth, this performance also is my basis to recognize those who have the potential to be an archer. For the boys, unluckily, the five students who stand out in this performance, kahit gustuhin ko man silang hikayatin sa archery, I know they will decline because they were already well known in other sports activities," I guess it's the Scarlet Primos. Well known even in sports, huh. I wonder what are their sports. "But for the girls, I found three and I hope they are available to participate here. Miss Hermosa of Section B, Miss Meñez of Section C, and Miss Fuentella of Section C, can you proceed here in front?"

"You made ne impress especially you, Miss Fuentella. Magkapatid nga talaga kayo nitong si Zyrille," he said.

So may I ask if you're interested to join and learn more about archery?"

I looked at the two girls and they were really interested as they nodded easily.

"Miss Fuentella, what about you?" I sighed.

"I can't," I said firmly which creased his forehead. Kahit si Zyrille ay takang-taka.

"Eh? Why? With your performance a while ago, it seemed that you are really interested with archery. I could see na bihasang-bihasa ka dito," pamimilit niya.

"I can't because I don't want. That's it. You still have two options here, Sir," pagmamatigas ko.

"Xen..." I smirked when she called me.

"You know that, Zyrille," and I gave her a meaningful look before I walked out in front giving them such an unbelievable feeling.

"Ok, class dismiss," Mr. Lorenzo said.

*Ace suddenly approached me.

"Hey, what's that?"

"Just striked with boredom," I said as I shrugged my shoulders.

"Xeña!" Zyrille shouted and I looked at her who is now walking towards me.

"Can we talk please?"

"Xen, please. Hindi lang about dito yung gusto kong pag-usapan natin," pagsusumamo niya.

Someone tapoed my shoulder. It's Ace. I lokked at him.

"Just talk with her. You need that," he said before leaving us. And I don't know kung anong meron sa kanya na napatango na lamang ako.
