章節 21: White

This chapter has been edited on August 7, 2019.

A young Lady Grimhilde stood in front of an impressive looking mirror. She was pale as snow with lips as pink as cotton candy. Her light green eyes batted brightly at her reflection.

She didn't wear a prison uniform in this point in time, she wore a magnificent lavender ball gown with white frill dancing around the skirt and silver lace that snaked around the bodice. Her hair was done up in a neat bun with two curls on either side of her symmetrical face, framing her sharp features.

She cleared her throat and in a smooth, deep voice recited, "Mirror, Mirror, I dream for a kiss. Can you show me where my darling is?"

The mirror swirled like water and then revealed the young version of Daniel Furray. He wore a black suit and brown leather shoes. He seemed to be in his room, getting ready for the ball.

She admired him once before reaching to her right and picking up a crystal ball off her dresser. The witch had many magical things upon the dresser; some used for torture, some used to spy, and some used for communication. In a way, the magic mirror was for all three.

She stroked a perfectly manicured hand across the crystal ball, "Daniel Furray," she said.

She watched in the magic mirror, Daniel noticing his own crystal ball starting to blink. He waved a hand over it casually and answered, "Is this Lady Grimhilde?"

"In the flesh, darling," she gushed, "How are you, Daniel? Are you getting ready for the party?"

She, of course, already knew the answer to the question, but obviously didn't want to tell him that she was spying on him.

He made his way over to his bed, sitting down with the crystal ball in his lap. The mirror showed him run a hand through his hair before answering.

"Yes, I'm just waiting for Vandra to finish getting dressed," he answered with a sigh, "You know, with the makeup and jewelry. I'm assuming you're not already there yet."

"Yes, I was about to leave," she answered, "I didn't realize you and Vandra would be coming together."

He laughed, "Of course, she's my wife," he rolled his eyes, "Why wouldn't she come with me?"

"W-well," she pouted, "I just figured she would be with Lily all night, helping her get ready. Isn't your wife the queen's maid?"

"Yes," he nodded, inspecting his finger nails boredly, "By choice, of course, they're best friends and Vandra doesn't actually need the job. But, um, she said she wanted to arrive on my arm and who am I to decline my wife?"

"Mmhm," The Lady curled her lip, "Well, I guess I'll see you at the ball. Save me a dance please?" she wished she didn't sound so desperate, but looking at the man in a suit made her feel weak in the knees.

Daniel nodded again, "Yeah sure, I'll catch you later, My Lady,"

"Yours indeed," She grinned, stroking the crystal ball and severing the connection. She then turned back to her reflection with a scowl, "Mirror, Mirror, my temper's reached its peak. Show me your true form to which I can speak."

The mirror swirled once more, revealing the head of a man. The head was bald and white with drooping black eyes and pale lips.

"Your Majesty, you are gorgeous," the man trapped in the mirror exclaimed.

"I know," she said, sticking her nose in the air proudly, "If only Daniel Furray would believe the same. I don't understand why he would marry a woman like that."

"Is Vandra Furray not one of your friends, My Lady?" the face asked, expressionless.

"Yes, well," She grimaced, "I hate most of my friends... except Daniel, of course. My, do I wish he would take notice of me. If only there was a way to dispose of Vandra."

"Ways to kill a vampire include: incineration, beheading, st-" She interrupted the face with a wave of her hand.

"No, no, I couldn't kill the woman," She shook her head, "I don't care much for her life, but I wouldn't venture that far. It's not as if she is fairer than me anyway, right? As long as I'm the most beautiful of them all, I can win the man of my affection, I'm sure of it."

"You are the most fairest of them all, My Lady," The head nodded, "No other at the moment is as breathtaking as you,"

She huffed, "Let's hope it stays that way," the witch snarled, "Mirror, Mirror, though we are apart, show me the hag who owns my love's heart."

The mirror rippled once more to reveal Vandra Furray. She was fully dressed in a tight strapless black dress with a foot long train behind her. She had sharp features and sharp, icy blue eyes. Her hair was black and fell down to her lower back like satin. She was having her own conversation in a crystal ball, however, Grimhilde quicly recognized the voice on the other end to be Lily Charming's.

"I swear, I am fine, Vandra," the queen laughed, "I want this night to be fun. For you and your husband both."

"I don't like this, Lily," Vandra shook her head even thought Lily couldn't see her, "I've been hearing strange rumors."

"I have too, but those types of rumors resurface every ball we have. You call me like this every party. Watch, you're going to come here all worried, thinking I've been assissinated while getting ready for the party and be surprised when I'm alive and well," came the calm reply, "I'm serious now, I will hang up and I want you to have a wonderful time with your husband, okay? Grimhilde is coming as well."

"Oh joy, so we can pretend to be friends while she continues to groom my husband?" Vandra rolled her eyes. Grimhilde growled, clenching her fists as Lily laughed on the other end.

"Exactly," the queen answered, "I promise you, I'll be perfectly fine on my own."

"Mirror, stop," Grimhilde snarled and the image went away. She faced her own reflection again irratable, "I hope those rumors are true today, Mirror. Maybe she'll learn some respect in the afterlife." She growled, grabbing a little pouch of her dresser and turning away from the mirror.

The scene then shifted to Lady Grimhilde in Lily Charming's own personal room. Vandra sat upon the bed, looking up at the ceiling in a trance, while Lily was fixing her teeth in the mirror.

"I cannot believe the amount of people that turned up to this ball," The queen was saying, "We host one so frequently and for no particular reason, I was beginning to think that people would get bored of them."

She wore a gold opera-style dress that shone as bright has her golden blonde hair. She was fixing her makeup in the mirror before she turned back to her friends, "Ready to head back on the floor, ladies?"

Grimhilde nodded, "Yes, I asked Daniel to save me a dance."

Vandra stood up with a roll of her eyes, "Can you think about anything besides my husband for just a minute of your life, My Lady?"

"Must you continue to worry about my thoughts, My Lady?" Grmhilde sneered, "If I recall correctly Daniel and I had grown up together. You were a new addition to the equation, you're lucky I gave my blessing."

"I didn't need your blessing, it was an arranged marriage," she scowled, "Besides, even if it weren't, doesn't mean that Daniel would have fallen for you."

"That is none of your business," she frowned, turning her head away.

"Whatever. Don't act high and mighty today, Grimhilde," Vandra warned, "I already take the blame for you enough as it is, so Daniel won't think bad of you."

"She's right, my Lady," The queen nodded, "You've gone around practicing your witchcraft and terrorizing villages. Not only have I turned a blind eye a few times since you've cleaned up your mess, but Vandra has spread the rumor that it was actually her and her vampire clan who did these deeds."

An awkward silence filled the room for two seconds, as no one knew what to say.

Then the door opened without permission to reveal four men. They all wore scowls and dark suits as they strutted in the room as if it were their own. The one who had opened the door walked towards Vandra. He smiled, revealing his ugly yellow fangs.

"Why have you gone, I thought you would save me a dance," he said, voice slurred and obviously drunk.

"I'd rather chew my own arm off than dance with you," She crossed her arms, "How much have you drunk today, Gavin, you smell like a pub."

"A bit too much," he nodded with a laugh, he grabbed her arm, "Come dance with me, Vandra."

"Come on, My Lady," another man called from the doorway, "Just give the man one dance."

"We 'ave a bet going on that says a tenner with my name on it if you say yes," another chimed in drunkenly.

Lily Charming cleared her throat, "Excuse me, gentlemen, I don't know how you got in here," she said with a slight bow, "But us ladies are refreshing ourselves. Do you think you can wait outside?"

The main vampire, Gavin let go of Vandra and turned to the queen, "How did we get in, you ask?" he grinned.

"Yes, there should be a guard at the door, Mr. Gavin," she said politely, "As I said, I don't know why he let you in, but-"

"He didn't let us in," his grin widened. He grabbed her by the wrists and pulled her close to whisper in her ear, "I killed 'im."

She pulled back immediately even though he was still holding her wrists, shock on her face. "Y-you..." she turned to Vandra for help.

Vandra immediately came toward them, "Gavin, that's enough. You're going to get yourself arrested. This isn't funny."

"Oh it's hilarious sweetheart," he pulled the queen in again, "A vampire's bite can kill you or turn you. Sometimes I like to bite people and see which one happens," he exclaimed, breaking out into laughter.

Vandra tried to grab the man's blazer but was taken into a hug by the other man that spoke before, "Oh Vandra, stop being a party-pisser."

Gavin grinned in the queen's face, "You'd be a gorgeous vampire, love. Anyone tell you, you have beautiful eyes, your Majesty?"

Lily strewed up her face in disgust, "GUARDS," she shouted at the top of her lungs, "Guards please, hel-!" Gavin fangs dove into the queen's neck, silencing her completely.

Her body went limp and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Vandra shrieked, "Lily! LILY!" she tried to shove the vampire who had her in a bear-hug away, but he was too strong, "Guards! Someone! Help!"

Gavin pulled away, licking the queen's blood off his fangs greedily, "Your Highness, you really are royalty. Your blood is divine, darling," he said. At the lack of response he furrowed his brows and shook her lifeless body roughly.

He turned to Vandra with a sheepish drunk face, "Oh, hell, I've killed her."

All the blood fled from Vandra's face, "WHAT," she shouted, face strewing up in fear.

"Oh boys, think we're gonna have to do a runner," Gavin said with a nervous laugh. In a split second he had vanished, the balcony window flying wide open.

Lily fell to the floor, her eyes rolled back into their place. She spotted her best friend, gaping in the arms of a drunk man.

"Vandra," she said feebly from the floor. Vandra looked at her sadly.

"Lily, you're alive," she smiled softly.

The man holding Vandra laughed, "Oh I guess no hard feelings then, Vandra, eh?" he said, and before she could answer, he took off. The other two men also fled at the speed of light before anyone could question them.

Vandra's face scrunched up in anger, "Grimhilde, heal Lily. I'll go get Gavin," she said. Vandra took a final look at Lily's weak body, bleeding away and then vanished into the night.

Lady Grimhilde, who had watched this whole ordeal without saying a word or doing a single thing walked over to Lily and looked down at her. She tilted her face before kneeling down and examining the queen.

"You really are quite pretty, Your Majesty, even when you're about to die," the witch commented.

Lily grabbed, Grimhilde's hand, "Make sure the guards know that four male vampires snuck in and attacked me. If they knew I went up here with you and Vandra, and she's gone, they might suspect it was her," she coughed out, breath heavy.

"That would be very bad," Grimhilde raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, please heal me, now. I fear I don't have much time left," she said, hand slipping away from Lady grimhilde and falling to the floor. She coughed, gasping for air.

Lady Grimhilde rose her hand to heal the queen and for a second her hand cackled with magic, ready to save the day. But then a particularly wicked idea popped into her head. An idea she stole from the queen's mouth herself.

"You're right, Lily," Grimhilde smiled, lowering her hand, "You really don't have much time left."

And Lily Charming's eyes widened right before the life went out of them, staring up at the ceiling, lifeless. How long was Grimhilde staring at her? An hour? Maybe two? It all didn't feel real. The queen kind of looked like a doll, cheeks still rosey and face still a beautiful tan, sprinkled with freckles.

Grimhilde stared at the lifeless body some more. "You know, I think she might have been prettier than me," she said with a scowl, then stood up, dusting off her dress, "I won't have to worry about that anylong however."

The door opened again and a young King Michael entered. He was skinnier then, with the same bushy mustache and broad shoulders. He looked at Grimhilde, not yet seeing his dead wife, as she was hidden behind Grimhilde's massive skirt.

Her eyes widened before she rushed over to him, "Oh Michael! I tried to stop Vandra, but she went mad with jealously! She bit her and then fled like a coward! It all moved too fast; all I could do was watch!" she cried, trying to make fake tears appear from her eyes.

"W-what are you talking about?" He furrowed his brows, looking around the room, "What did Vandra do? Grimhilde you'll need to speak slower so I... Lily!"
