20.83% Prince-NOT SO-Charming / Chapter 5: Red

章節 5: Red

This chapter was edited on September 23, 2018.

Prince Lucas sat at the dining table very early in the morning, stomach growling before he could even open his eyes.

He wore his gold nightgown and gold slippers to match, yawning irritably, as he waiting for his food to arrive.

Suddenly the smell of french toast, poached eggs, sausages, and warm apple cider wafted through his nose. Covering all of that, however, was the smell of cheap cologne.

"Rise and shine, princess"

His eyes flickered open as looked up, sweeping his hair out of his face. He looked up and saw the boy from yesterday was placing a plate and a glass in front of him. He paused while putting down the fork, looking down and seeing Prince Lucas right under him. He smiled shortly and then went back to placing everything on the table in front of Lucas.

"Slowly poached Goose eggs, cinnamon and powdered sugar french toast, pork sausage, and some apple cider to wash it down, Your Highness," the boy said, low voice tingling the hairs on the back of Lucas's head.

"Thank you" Lucas nodded, "Sounds delicious"

Just as he heard the boy about to leave, he whipped his head around and called out, "Wait"

The boy's green eyes sparkled with curiosity.

"Come... sit down with me"

The boy shrugged and walked back over, sitting right diagonal of Lucas. He leaned his head in his hands with a casual smile plastered over his face.

"I don't blame you for craving my company," he said confidently, "It's among the most sought-out after all"

"Oh really?" Lucas raised an eyebrow as he cut his sausage in half, "Is it because you smell like a bottle of rancid fairy dust or is that just for me?"

The boy burst out laughing, which Lucas wasn't expecting at all. He tried his best not to smile, but the corners of his lips crept up at the sound.

"Don't like my cologne?" He asked, "You guys don't have Axe in Lacigam?"

"Is that the brand?" Lucas rolled his eyes, "No wonder. It is definitely axing through my bloody nostrils"

The boy laughed again, "You are quite something, Prince Lucas" He smiled widely "And cute too"

"I'm adorable," Lucas said, trying to hide the blush in his cheeks, "And charming and wonderful in every way," Lucas said, despite believing the exact opposite. But the Louisiana-boy didn't have to know about his crippling low self-esteem.

"You sure are" the boy nodded, "Why aren't you eating yet? I was under the impression that no food was safe under Prince Lucas the glutton"

Lucas looked down at the piece of sausage he just cut. The boy was right, he hadn't even thought to eat, despite his growling stomach. How had this boy, even for 10 seconds, managed to distract him from his one true love-- food?

"It was quite hot. But it's fine now" the prince lied, stuffing a piece of sausage into his mouth. His eyes burst open at the flavor. "Oh my god!"

The boy smiled widely, "Is it good?"

"It's fantastic!" he said, not bothering to wait until his mouth wasn't full. He stuffed in the rest of the sausage and threw in a piece of french toast as well. "Who made this?"

"Chef Lucas" The boy leaned back in his seat, "He's very good at what he does. He loves it too."

"Give him my compliments, this is amazing!" Lucas answered, plate already half empty. He washed everything down with some comforting apple cider, "How can he make such a simple dish so good?" he said, once his mouth was actually empty

"He has a special touch I guess" the boy shrugged "Didn't your mother ever tell you not to talk with your mouth full?"

Lucas looked at him with a strange expression, "Probably. I don't quite remember, she's been dead for several years now"

What the actual heck, Brent, why is the world would you say that? Brents scolded himself in his head. After the prince answered, he was a loss for words.

It wasn't totally his fault, he didn't know his mom was dead. But what was Brent supposed to respond with? 'No way! My mom's dead too! Both of my parents actually!'

Of course not, that sounded like something out of a bad anime.

"Oh" was all he responded with.

Lucas snorted, "Don't look at me like that. It's not I killed her myself" Lucas rolled his eyes, "She was killed by a vampire"

Brent raised his eyebrows. There was no way what Brent was thinking could be true.

"Do you happen to know which vampire?" he asked

Lucas shook his head, "I was very young, so no" Lucas cocked his head to the side, sipping on his cider casually, "Why?"

"Just curious" Brent answered, his thoughts going wild.

"You're something of a mystery to me, you know," Lucas said, splitting one of his eggs and watching the yolk spill over one of his french toast, "First thing's first, I don't even know your name"

"My name?" Brent though for a second "My name is B...obby"

They stared at each other for a while. Brent was cringing and Lucas was deadpanning him.

"You're a terrible liar, have you realized?" the prince asked

Brent shrugged "All the boys call me Bobby"

What the heck was he saying? Why didn't he just think things through before they came out of his mouth?

"'The boys'?" Lucas looked at him like he was stupid, "What is wrong with you? Are all you people from the Continents like this?"

"Maybe," Brent asked, just trying to change the subject, "Why? You've never been out of Lacigam?"

"No, I'm too busy being next in line to rule a kingdom," Lucas said flatly, "Why did you change the subject?"

"I didn't" Brent said, far too quickly

"I'm Prince of the Southern Kingdom" Lucas narrowed his eyes, "Do you know what an honor it is to have breakfast with me? You could at least tell me who you are and answer my questions"

"You're the one who asked me to come sit with you, princess," Brent said, far too aggressively to be talking with a prince

"I don't understand why you won't just tell me your name" Prince Lucas seethed, "I told you about my dead mother, for crying out loud"

"You decided to tell about your dead mother, and you were the one who invited me to sit with you," Brent said, "Don't go holding everything over me like it's a privilege"

"It is a privilege" Lucas snarled, "I may not be married to snow white, or be the king of some big kingdom, but when I'm home in the southern kingdom, I always get my way"

"Well not this time, princess" Brent stood up, "Fine, my name's not Bobby. But that doesn't make me obligated to tell you what it really is"

"I can force you" Lucas narrowed his eyes

Brent raised an eyebrow, "I like to see you try"

They stared at each other, Brent getting too lost in the prince's adorable glare to think about what he was saying before saying it. It wasn't until silence fell between the two that he realized they were arguing.

Crushes make you say stupid things.

"I think I would rather have the rest of my breakfast alone," Lucas said slowly, putting a piece of egg in his mouth. His food was probably cold now, but he pretended not to notice.

Brent bowed shortly, "As you wish, your Highness"

As he walked back into the kitchen, he couldn't help running his hands through his hair in frustration.

Why did he always have to Brent things up?
