章節 5: Mother's Angry
After the attack, I saw as my older siblings bring their little siblings back to mother's room. I saw her coil in her son's corpse as she hugged them one last time and grief. I saw my older siblings bury them, as I realized that even in this world, all isn't just happy times.
I saw humanity in these snakes. A species that were different than humans, who bury their loved ones when they pass away. Other than sadness, I felt amazed by their way of living.
A day has passed after that incident and nothing has happened much. I've been going on my daily routine of eating and practicing my abilities. Talking about abilities, it hasn't really leveled up since then. "Venom" also, hasn't leveled up once.
I have been using it for finishing rodents and I've been targeting walls for my "Acid Spit"
Maybe it'll level up later, now that they are stronger than usual thanks to my level up.
Just when I was thinking about improving myself, I felt a tingle in my brain. Mother is calling to "come". I was on the hunting grounds from one of the holes and I returned to my mother's room where the remaining snakes are there.
Now that I look at it harder, some of my siblings have also leveled up. They have a darker color than the rest and a little bit bigger. Bigger? I didn't really realize that. They were just bigger by an inch or so...
The tingling sensation to come to this room didn't disappear until another sensation followed. It was — Attack.
It looks like mother is angry about her child's death, obviously. Her expression was what I first saw when I first came here. That feeling when you are someone who's power is something you can never reach.
That was when grounds started to shake when a hole from the top of the rooms was created. Snakes that were at least triple the size of my older siblings came as they circled mother from the ceiling, like a dragon that showed up from the heavens.
These snakes were special as one seemed to have a reddish tint on their skin. The other seemed to have a more purple tint and the last one was the same color as ours.
There were at least three of them as they looked at mother, then to us. More of my older siblings came from that very hole and landed to greet my mother.
I don't know what this means but this many and that new species of snakes. Looks like mother isn't playing, he seems to be wiping out the entire rodents. She started to excrete this aggressive aura and my tingling sensation worsened.
All the snakes launched into different paths as I followed randomly. I wasn't able to join the elder siblings but I was able to follow two of my older siblings. I was with my current siblings as they too were incredibly angry.
I looked at where we are going and it seems like there was a boulder on the way. I was about to stop when one of my older siblings used their tail to break it. Yes, their tail! A big boulder, maybe the size that was twice their size, broke into a lot of pieces... with their tail!
I was amazed to see what my future powers are like but I was also afraid of what it would be if I were their enemy.
The path that was blocked by the boulder gave out a blinding light. The blinding light slowly faded as my eyes adjusted to the scenery of what seems like bricks. Old mossy bricks that were at least old enough for it to get cracks.
I landed on what seems to be a rectangular passageway, a dungeon with torches primitively lighting the path. This wasn't a normal passageway. This was clearly made by humans as every path has turns.
What is this place, anyway? It seems human-made but the lighting is so... medieval. Are there light bulbs here, or something? Why is it so messy, too... Are the humans here really late on technology?
The two older siblings split up with the other going to our right, and the other going to the left. I was left panicking to select left as I am currently unfamiliar in this situation.
Wait for me!
From left to right, it seems like there were rodents everywhere. It was the usual rodents that we usually eat and the dangerous ones that killed my siblings before. It wasn't like that until we got deeper in the dungeon.
W-what is that!!
A rodent that has red fur appeared. It was the size of the giant rodent earlier but this time, he's emitting this hot air around him. Our older looked at us as the others ran to hide.
I followed as my older sibling and the Red Rodent was in a face-off. It was totally silent until the rodent's check bloated as he pulled it back. My older brother was in a fighting stance when the Red Rodent breathed out flames.
The fire passed through my older sibling as I was peaking on the fight, I almost got hit. It was so close that my head got lightly scorched. My eyes widened by surprise as I didn't take a peak until the place was silent.
Did... my older brother win?
Just when I thought of that, the shadowed face of the rodent appeared from the corner of the walls. Her eyes that were bright red looked at me as I froze and bitterly smiled. Time stopped as the only result that I can think of was my brother's death.
...
I was about to die...
Not until someone suddenly whispered...
"Fight."
I heard a voice of what seems to be a woman's. What's stranger is that it was in English. I don't know if humans here talk in English, but that was highly unlikely.
I instinctively took out my "Venom Spit" as it entered through the rodent's eyes. I panicked as this was my first life-and-death situation. I couldn't even help but run at this point, yet it was also useless. My siblings would die and I would be whipped by a fire breath from the rodent
Yet, I made the wrong move. The rodent shrieked as he started to throw flames all over the place.
Burning me in the process.
