Vukan? Vukan, are you there?" her vice echoed through the door and unsettled his hearing. 

Hours had fled past since the unfortunate breakfast and while time had lapsed between, the events still left a sore taste on Vukan's palates. 

"Whatever did I do wrong?" he asked himself. 

The question had plagued him and caused him some nervous wreck ever since he watched his parents' car drive off in anger. It felt like the last line of support he could reach out to had left him and things weren't on the verge of getting any better either. 

"You know you can speak to me, right?" she asked. "This is why I am your wife". 

The term "wife" in itself was beginning to sound like a joke to Vukan. He wondered if that was how it felt for most people who were forced into arranged marriages, even though his wasn't technically an arranged marriage. What he could classify his marriage to was absolute bondage born from serious manipulation.
