Akiol's surroundings changed into a comfortable home. A man sitting on a couch spoke, "You're here. Take a seat."
Akiol sat on the opposite couch. The man then lifted a drink, "My apologies for the long wait. The bosses sure are touchy on subjects like these. It took quite a while to arrange this meeting. You may call me Paul."
Akiol commented, "Really shows your sincerity."
"Again, my apologies."
"Well we are here now, so I suppose my questions can be asked?"
"About that, I hope you understand that certain subjects I simply cannot answer."
"I can understand that much, it wouldn't be fair if I receive the answer to a question that gives me an upper hand."
"Exactly. So please ask away."
Akiol pondered for a moment before asking, "War Sights, what are they?"
"Ah."
Akiol held up a hand, "I do not care for the method of obtaining one. I wish to know what they are, what makes one."
Paul placed a drink on the table, "Truthfully, we do not know ourselves. Coding a piece of work that makes it to where the effects of something are not only unique to those who obtained it, but also incredibly different in how it operates? It would be more simple if War Sights looked the same, with only some changes in them. But War Sights can be anything."
"A developer unsure on how their own game works?"
"It is one of the many mysteries in coding this game. I do believe this is one of the reasons our team remains so passionate about the game."
"Fine then, Crimson Immortals. Who are they, what is their story?"
"The Crimson Immortals. A group from the Old Era of A World's Legacy. A group that forcefully removed themself from the Life Cycle. As for their story? I'd think you would prefer to find that out yourself."
"You know, my questions aren't really being answered right now."
"I can tell if you wish, I just think it would be better witnessed finding it out in-game than a developer telling you."
Akiol rested his head in his palm, "Aura, what is it, why isn't it well known?"
"Aura? You did have a Skill called Aura Boost, did you finally evolve it?"
"No, it was taken from me. Yet through it I learned of actual Aura."
Paul's eyes widened, "You mean actual Aura?!"
"Yes."
"Aura. . . was something we intentionally tried to erase from the game. You see, the world of A World's Legacy actually lasted for several hundreds of years. It was the only way we could properly build story lines and history without flaws. During part of the beginning phase one of our prototypes became rogue. Instead of the leveling we desired, the people began focusing on Aura. It became like one of those cultivation novels. It was a world where whoever could use Aura better could rule over anyone underneath them."
"That's not much different than what your game is currently."
"You hurt me with those words. But no, it was far worse. It truly was a terrible experience, we almost considered starting over from scratch. But instead we slowly integrated the style of improvement we desired. Slowly erasing any means of Aura. So it still exists, however coming into contact with it should be near impossible."
"I learned of it through Stars."
"Stars?"
"Oh, the upper four sword Breaker of Stars."
"Ah, so that's what you call him? But that makes complete sense now. Stars previous wielder, along with Aura Boost? Of course you would come into contact. In fact I think that's the only way that you can come into contact with it!"
"So how does it work properly?"
"How do you use it currently?"
"I use the stats as a catalyst, similarly to how Aura Boost works."
"Ah, so catalyst style. That's arguably both the worst and the best method."
"Care to explain?"
"I'm not willing to explain the other methods of using Aura, but I think this method would be the best for players. It's both the worst and the best because your Aura's strength is completely based of the catalyst. So a good catalyst can provide Aura far stronger than any other method. But a bad one would make your Aura worthless. How do you use Aura in battle?"
"The same as Aura boost."
"Oh. A shame."
"Is there a better way?"
Paul bit the nail of his thumb as he thought, "Since I couldn't properly answer your previous questions, I can answer this. I just ask that you do not let this become public knowledge?"
"I see no reason in willingly giving a trump card to the public."
"That's good, I shall give you this hint then. Have you tried using Aura like mana? I am aware of your strange affinity with controlling mana."
"How do you know about that?"
"A certain coworker of mine is a huge fan of your team. Six Lights was it? He occasionally watches your adventures."
"That's a little unnerving."
"Ah, don't misunderstand. He only watches for your battles, if he finds that you are doing something else he just sighs and does his work."
Akiol chuckled, "I see, is that something common in the workplace?"
"Indeed it is, we all have our favorites."
"That's amusing. Alright next question, the Stages. What are they?"
"I assume you have been told about Second Stage already?"
"Yes."
"Stages, I am sure you are familiar on how slow leveling is. I think the players will soon realize that level grinding is not what we want them to do. So in order for them to gain a sense of power scaling, we used the term Stage."
"Stars said there were requirements though?"
"To enter the Stage early, yes. To enter it in general? No. An average level 500 would enter Second Stage, most likely through a quest. However if you fulfill certain requirements, then you can enter it earlier."
"Is there any benefits in doing so?"
"Plenty, depending on your current level when you enter Second Stage, you will receive some rewards. These would be Stat Points and Skill Points, but also some other hidden features you may realize in the future."
"What about the Strand of Existence?"
Paul sighed, "This question. We have no idea, it was looked into. We asked everyone, but no one knows where this quest came from. We have no idea what it is or what it does."
Akiol remained silent at this. Something told him that the Strand meant so much more than it showed. So he decided to look into this himself.
Paul continued, "If possible, do you mind telling what it does? Or what it gave you?"
"I'm figuring that out currently."
"Alright then."
"Next question. Evolution, is it purely level based?"
"Mostly yes, but there are a few hidden evolutions that can be acquired at any point in time. If you meet the requirements of course. For instance your Grand Slime is one of them."
"It's not the next one?"
"Grand Slime is supposed to be the fifth in the evolution. You skipped past Major Slime."
"Is it because of the Slime King?"
"Correct, the Slime King is a key to many hidden evolution forms of the slime."
"Then my final question for now, is there anything I can do to assist Givale's growth?"
"Hmmm, not currently. Anything beneficial to her is out of your reach currently. However you don't need to do anything much to help her. Now that she is free from the Tower her growth will come naturally."
"That's good to hear."
Paul suddenly snapped, "Ah! Since she is permanently bound to you, her strength limits to your level. Although a level 250 dragon is still far stronger than ordinary players, it's still limits her."
"Is the level the only limit?"
"Technically, raising your Stage will also raise hers since you're the focus of the link."
"Then that's all I have for now. Tell our fan to keep an eye out for us during the competition."
"Haha, I will. Oh, what's your third request? We plan to wrap this up quickly."
"Hmm, let me have a way to contact a dev. I'd like to ask questions in the future. Although I will accept any limits on those questions."
"That's easy, we can have one of them contact you in-game."
"Ah, I'd prefer it to be through the Forum group chat."
"Why?"
"I chat on there more than your messaging system, it's just more convenient."
"I'll see what I can do, we will send an in-game mail once it's figured out."
"Alright, I assume I will sign a contract?"
"Once we finish this you will get it in the mail with some instructions."
"Alright."
"I'll send you off then, looking forward to your performance in the competition."
"Don't blame us if we bulldoze through everyone.", Akiol said with a chuckle.
"If that does ever happen, at least put on a show. Refunding will be a pain."
"Don't worry, what are the chances something like that happens?"
"It's very possible, we are aware of your fights against armies."
"Then we will make sure to put on a show then."
"We'd appreciate it."
