章節 12: [Chapter 12] A True Connection
"Race?" I click on it and a timer pops up with a description, I read the description and almost puke from excitement, shock, and worry. ———————————————————————
"After discovering your abilities, you have unlocked the next step to your great evolution to rule the world. When the timer is up, races you have seen and created in your memory will be randomized and you will be given a list to choose one. Each race will have a description and this will also decide your multi class options. Having enough mana is crucial to do this and will also determine how powerful your race options are. Choose carefully. WARNING, SURVIVAL IS NOT GUARANTEED!" ———————————————————————
"Multi-class? What classes will I be able to choose from? Hmmm, I like the sound of a sorcerer class, but I don't want to be a paper sorcerer. Let's see here, the timer says...Two Hours?! I thought I would have more time to prepare!"
I have to go find Sylvic and explain what might happen to me, I don't want to die but I am also afraid to scare him away or get kicked out, he seems ok with weird but what about horrifying?" Then I reread the last sentence.
"Screw it! No family is better than dead and I will have to come up with an excuse at some point to why I no longer look human! At least this makes my excuse more believeable. I say as I run out of my room and start looking for Sylvic.
As I am leaving to enter the house, Sylvic starts cleaning up the training area with items from a shed in the back left corner. Polishing the dummies, melting the snow with fire magic, and cleaning the fences. After that he enters the house, a few hours have passed since Kurayami entered. He walks into the living room and sees his wife reading a book. He is wearing a confused look and sits in the seat beside her, his hands closed in front of his mouth. "What's wrong honey?" Asks Anna, folding her book closed with her finger still in it.
"...I don't think Kurayami is human."
"Really? How can you tell?" "His life force, remember I have the ability to see others life force." "Then what race is he?" She responds, looking perplexed. "That's what I'm confused about....his life force isn't solid like regular species, it's constantly changing, like clay. When I checked on him in the hospital, he had the life force of a human. What happened between then and now...?"
They suddenly flinch as all of a sudden, they hear throughout the house, "Two hours?! I thought I would have more time to prepare!" They jump up from their chairs and start jogging up the steps, just for me to knock right into Sylvic. "Owww....." Sylvic reacts as he stumbles back a bit. I grab his hand and yell, "No time!" And drag him to the front door and I start to put on my jacket.
"Kurayami, calm down." Sylvic says, realizing something is definitely wrong. "What's wrong?" I start to calm down, realizing I have no viable excuse for what's about to happen. "Something bad is about to happen in two hours, I don't know what's going to happen but I will not look like the same person I was before, are you ok with that?" Sylvic looks at Anna, both of them looking shocked, before looking at me and nodding. "We will care for you the same no matter what." He says as he pulls me into a hug, and Anna joins in with no hesitation.
'I haven't seen him act this way since he moved in with us, whatever it is, it is truly dangerous.' Sylvic's mind runs through the past two weeks seeing that I usually am calm and collected almost every time we have spoke.
I am shocked silent. Tears start to form in my eyes, 'They truly care for me. I have just seen these guys as a means to an end, but they truly care for me... That's it, I will show them the same amount of love and care they have and will show me. They are my family after all.' I hug them back, balling my eyes out. Repeating, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
In the top right corner I see a timer ticking down, 001:55:37 hours remaining. I let go and look at Sylvic in the eyes, "What is about to happen to me, I cannot explain, but my life is in danger, and we need to get to a private yet clean room in less than two hours." Sylvic nods and throws on his coat, "Whatever is about to happen, I know where we can go." He grabs my hand and runs out the door, after kissing Anna that is. And the last thing we see is Anna standing there, alone and with worry painted on her face.
We are now running through the snow on the sidewalk, quickly passing others, some making small remarks like, "Why are they in a hurry?" We make it to the clinic and enter, seeing the same nurse as before. "Hello Mr. Johnson, hello Kurayami." "Hi nurse Jasmine, we need to go to the surgery room right now." "Nurse Jasmine's face turns serious, "What happened?" "Nothing yet, but something is about to happen!" I interject quickly. "Ok, ok, go on in." We run in and he shuts the door. As soon as the door closes a giant mass of pure black enters under the crack of the door. He backs away scared out of his wits of this creature.
"It's ok, that is my doing. Be prepared for your world to flip upside down." He nods and stares at me and the black smoky mass as it enters my shadow, wondering how a mass as big as half the room could enter such a small space "Oh dear god!"I say as I feel all my muscles tear apart and repair themselves at the same time several times over. My skin is burning and I'm sweating into a pool that grows larger by the minute. 'Collecting all of that shadow on my way here was to strengthen my body! I can't worry about side effects right now, I need to make my frame as strong as possible to survive this!' My muscles bulge, growing larger, until my clothes can barely hold my frame.
Sylvic looks at me purely baffled at what he just witnessed. 'He can manipulate pure shadow?! That requires extreme focus and control. At academies, that's the first thing they teach students so they can control their affinities with ease! And look what it did to his body! He looks like a royal guard at the age of 10! This is absurd! This never happens to anyone else when they do it. No one can know about this, if the kingdom found out...he could be a living experiment!' He looks at me, "That seemed a lot more climactic than I thought." "That wasn't it, that was just preparations." I respond while standing up. "Preparations?!" Sylvic was so shocked that he couldn't contain his thoughts anymore. "The real hell is about to begin." I say as I watch the clock.
