"I thought you grew up on a farm." Marilyn said.

"Just because I have to get up early, doesn't mean I like it. Why do you think I want to become a singer?"

"Right, bathrooms down the hall." Deanna wandered out. When she came back a few minutes later, her hair was wet and she looked more awake.

"Wow, this is luxury when you grow up in a family of twelve." She shook her head. "I guess I'd better get the phone call over with. Papa is not going to be happy. Where can I make a call?"

"Use my phone," Marilyn handed her the phone. She helped Deanna dial the number, then stepped out to give her a little privacy. She went back into the room when she heard sobs through the door.

"They won't let me come back." Deanna sat slumped on the floor. "They told me I made my choice and could live with it."

"I'll find you somewhere here. You can find a job and survive until the next stage of the show."

"There's no guarantee," Deanna said

Marilyn pointed at the computer.
