章節 22: Chapter 20: Small World
~ Sophie's Point of View ~
I sought upon knowing that finally, Max came back from the music room. However,
Kate didn't come back yet.
"Max? Is that you?" I asked him.
My soft voice echoed around the room but still, he's not answering.
But, I heard a footstep coming towards me. "Who are you! Max?! Kate?!"
"It's me, Sophie."
My heart skips a beat upon hearing his cold and deep voice.
Although I can't see his face clearly, even though I've never seen his face, he never failed me to feel this way.
Every time he's near, every time he's talking with me. Every time he calls me by my name, it would always make me feel butterflies in my stomach.
"What are you doing here?!" I forgot to control my emotions. To buried it deep in my soul.
He took a step closer to me that I can hear and smell his warm and fragrant breath. "What did you do to me, Sophie?"
I was startled with his absurd and naive question. "I don't know what are you talking about. Now, leave me before Yna sees us talking face to face."
My heart beast so fast that makes me hard to breathe. To swallow my own saliva, my ego, my pride.
"You've changed me without your knowledge. You enlightened up my dull and boring life, Sophie. Now tell me! Tell me how I can live my life without a woman who taught me? Tell me now!" He yelled out.
What should I say? I'm not in the position to answer in the very beginning.
"I... I... Leave me now or I am the one who will leave!"
"No! None of us will leave from the four corners of this room! Especially you."
I can't think properly because of him. Xian is making me hard to live and to stand with my decisions.
He's driving me insane and selfish. "Please, I'm begging you Xian. Leave me alone! Let me decide for myself. Please."
Xian replied, "Sophie, I've never felt this crazy towards a girl in my past life. Except you."
I closed my eyes out of frustration and conscience.
I couldn't bear to hurt Yna again, his mother, and especially myself.
"Perhaps, fate is telling us that we are not meant for each Xian. That meeting and knowing you were the most selfish and unfair thing I've done. So please, leave me alone and focus on Yna. She's more deserving more than I am."
Tears springing into my eyes as I said those hideous and awful truths.
From that moment, I turned my back at him because I don't want Xian to pity me. I don't want to give him erroneous and inaccurate signs and feelings.
I don't want him to suffer because of me.
Xian remained quiet for a while. I thought he will walk away from me and let me be on my own.
Until Xian grabs my arm and encircled me into his warm arms. "Xi...Xian!"
"I won't let you slip away from me, Sophie. But for now, we need to this, we need to act like we're not seeing each other anymore. Do you trust me?"
I shook my head in disbelief.
My hands and knees were shaking and trembling as I put my hands on his back.
Now, I know how it feels. I know how calming and soothing it was. "No Xian. It's not the right thing to do! I hope this is clear to you that I don't want to hear your voice all over again."
I pushed him away but Xian was too strong and irresistible. He grasps my wrist tightly and pulled me closer to his chest.
"If I can't change your mind then let me do this for the last time, Sophie. Let me savor this one last hug. This last one moment with you."
Tears flow down into my cheeks as I leaned closer to his chest. I've never known that I can experience this kind of letdown and dismay.
"Set the pain free from your soul, and be brave enough to be true to yourself. Don't worry, you can cry in my chest until the pain vanished in your soft heart. Until you feel calm and relaxed."
I burst into tears and my voice cracks.
I'm speechless.
I'm starstruck with his unusual actions.
"Tha...nk you for comforting me but you have to leave now."
Finally, Xian set me free from his warm embrace. "Why are you so excited? I came here to see you, Sophie."
I was taken aback when he suddenly hold my hands gently. I felt like I was electrified by his touch.
"See you at the right time and place, Sophie."
I wish to see his face. I wish to touch and feel his heartbeat. Conceivably, I can do all my wishes when the moment my vision comes back.
"Goodbye!" He coldly said.
I wiped my tears away and replied, "Goodbye Xian. I hope we can still be friends despite what happened."
This time, I tried to reach and embrace him. Xian taught me to withstand. He taught me that I can be more of what I can do beyond my expectation and time.
He didn't try to rub my back that made me a little bit strange.
In Korean Dramas, the male lead would barely rub the female lead when they hug each other, according to Kate.
Xian is totally different from fictional characters. "I need to go now, Sophie."
I replied, "Go ahead! For sure, you invited Yna for a date."
"How did you know that?!" Xian asked me. Based on his voice, he seems stunned and shocked.
I bowed my head and plays my finger as I felt guilty and ashamed. "No! It's not what you think. It was just my prediction and it seems like I'm correct!"
"Who told y–" Xian paused for a minute.
"Sophie/Xian?!"
Upon hearing their voices, I automatically let go of Xian's hand and step back.
"You know her?!" Yan asked someone.
I don't know who's she was talking with but I'm sure she's asking Max.
"Yes! And, you know him too?"
Max exclaimed.
"Well, what a small world." Xian satirically said.
