章節 9: First things first

My eyes widened and my mouth heaved, making my expression of complete surprise clear. I ended up quickly letting go of the glass and taking a couple of steps back, and rubbing my eyes to make sure it wasn't a nightly hallucination, something in my turbulent head. But it was not. After opening my eyes, Pharaoh was still in front of me, looking at me with his patient lilac eyes. I tried to get some word out, but I was kind of stuck for it. Atem frowned a little and tilted his head to the side.

- Sorry to show up so suddenly. You don't have to stare at me like that ... "His voice resonated through the kitchen.

He crossed his arms and sighed slightly. I followed suit and sighed, relaxing my taut muscles. I was still a little nervous, it was obvious that I would be staring at him. After what had happened, I didn't know how to act normally with him, but he still maintained that strange smoothness he always had.

- What are you doing here? - I frowned, and by his reaction, I realized that the words had been rude - Not that I'm expelling him ... I mean ... - I looked away and my cheeks started to blush. - I was worried about you, you didn't answer me ... why would you show up now?

His eyes were filled with a tenderness he had not seen for a long time. Atem uncrossed his arms and placed his hand gently on my shoulder, still looking at me that way. Atem's eyes always seemed to read me, to see through me. This time, I could almost see your soul through the eyes, and not the other way around.

- I know. And I'm sorry for that. I was not well to come and talk to you .... You saw my condition that day. His voice was firm, but he could feel a strange sweetness in her. - I'm better now. - He sighed. - If you're willing to listen to me, I'll tell you what happened.

I nodded slightly at him. I was hoping to finally know what was going on with Pharaoh's spirit. I guided myself to the kitchen chair and he accompanied me, sitting in the opposite chair.

- Yugi, you know that I am a very old spirit, and I have a personality that took a long time to evolve into what I am today. You helped me to realize and accept one of the greatest things that is goodness. Still, there have been some things lately that have deregulated my spiritual control, and a part of me has gotten out of control ... you know ... that evil Yami. - He pondered for a while, and looked at me.

- You say, that figure of yours with red eyes and claws? - I said fearfully and he nodded.

- I know it's scary. It's a monster ... I'm sorry. He looked away from the floor.

- Hey, hey. It's all right. - I placed my hand over his, which rested on the table.

His eyes went up quickly and looked at me in surprise. I smiled slightly.

- Does not matter. It is still you, and I will remain by your side. I promised I would help you with that, didn't I?

- Thank you Yugi. - He closed his eyes and smiled - You know, you already helped me.

- What you mean? - I frowned slightly.

He smiled sweetly and squeezed my hand lovingly, leaning his body forward to look at me more closely. His lips parted slightly, but then closed, and his face turned to the side, looking at the stairs that now made the familiar sound of footsteps. He turned quickly and smiled mischievously.

- I'll be right back.

His spectral body gradually disappeared before I could say anything. The sound of footsteps finally subsided and I turned my eyes to the stairs, where my grandfather's figure was. He scratched his eyes lazily.

- Yugi ??? What are you doing up here at this hour?

- Ah .... Sorry grandpa. I came to get a glass of water, and ended up staying here ... I'm kind of sleepy. But I'm already going to sleep. - I got up and smiled. - Good evening.

I went upstairs, catching a glimpse of my grandfather's sleepy face that shouldn't have understood even half of what I said. I went to my room and closed the door. I sat on the bed and wondered what Atem had said. He was really having problems, I imagine now what I had seen makes sense. His contortions and his efforts to keep me away were all because he was aware that he was dangerous at the time. I still don't know for sure why something like that aroused him, but he is an unstable spirit type, I think that some types of emotions or traumas can make a defense mechanism activate in him.

- Pharaoh ...- I murmured, while stuck in the daydreams of my logic for the recent events.

- Yes? - The voice of the greatest resonated through the place.

I looked up, leaving my thoughts to face Atem, who sat on the bed with his arms crossed slightly and his eyes tender over me.

- Uh ... nothing. I just thought too loudly ... - I looked away before my cheeks started to blush.

- I worried him too much, and I'm sorry for that Yugi. Besides ... maybe it's not the best time to ask, but how is Kaiba doing ???

- Ah yes ...- I looked up - He woke up. Mokuba will send news soon.

- That's nice. I ... accidentally ended up sending his mind temporarily to the Realm of Nightmares. - He looked embarrassed.

- He'll be fine Pharaoh. In fact, you didn't want to ... it wasn't really you.

- You're right, but it still doesn't stop me feeling bad about it. It's just that ... seeing him talk to you like that, made that evil side break free with greater force. I think you are his key Yugi.

- Key? You say ...- I frowned, staring at him.

- No, no. - He put his hand on my shoulder - I'm not saying it's your fault. Because you have a strong bond with me, I believe that perhaps the circumstances surrounding you will get you out of my usual control. Can you understand???

At that moment, Atem's words made more than clear sense. The dream I had returned to my mind, the dream in which Pharaoh was buried alive. I remembered that your dark side told me something like that.

"- Look at Yugi ... you're doing this to him. You will sink it, end your happiness ... do you really want it? You are a bad boy ... Yugi. "

- Yugi? - Atem's voice called me back.

- Excuse me. - He said in a tearful tone - I think I understand.

- What's it? You have that tone of voice ...

- Huh? - I raised my teary eyes to look at him.

- What happened? You were thoughtful and a little sad. Something I said?

- No ... it's just ... Do you remember my nightmares, Atem? - I made a small beak and he nodded.

- What about them? - He tilted his head slightly to the side, in a cute way.

- You know, they had to do with you. I didn't tell you, because I thought it was just my imagination ..., but I saw you sink ... desperate, and I couldn't help you. And that figure ... she was there. Arresting me.

His tender eyes from one second to the next were widening. Atem was not the type of person to be scared, but he knew that if something made him look like that, it was certainly not a good thing.

- Yugi ... - His voice came out a little hoarse, as if he was having trouble letting it go.

- I shouldn't be saying these things. Excuse me. It's just that I was really worried about you. You don't know how happy I am to see you better ... - I smiled.

His frightened face dissipated, and his arms slowly wrapped around my body in an embrace. He rested his head slightly above mine, letting me rest on his chest. It was soothing to hear his soft breath and feel the movement of his chest as he did it. I looked up with bright little eyes and he looked back. I tapped my forehead gently with my index finger.

He hung his head, making that confused face, but then undid it, smiling tenderly afterwards. He brought the pink lips to my forehead and brushed them against the skin of my face, before placing a kiss there. I lifted my eyes slightly to look at him with a graceful smile, but I could only see his lilac eyes come closer and closer and come towards my lips. He took them gracefully, they were so hot. They strolled for a while while their hands caressed my hair, bringing our bodies closer together. Then he broke the kiss. He looked at me with the same tenderness and smiled.

- Good night, Yugi.

His body disappeared quickly, returning to the millennium and leaving me looking at the empty, calm room into the night.
