章節 33: HOME SWEET HOME.
Phyllis convinced Denzel to allow them settle with the Richards for a while so that they would take time to clean and decorate his house since they've been gone for two months and two weeks. She also needed to decorate a room for Beryl and make some adjustments in the house for her to be safe even as she grows. Denzel didn't want to move in with the Richards because of Mrs. Richards, that woman had sought for his life once and that's even the reason they left to hide in Australia. What was the guarantee that she wouldn't try to take his life again. But Phyllis convinced him to allow them stay with the Richards because she believed that would even help them to convince the woman they had no idea of her intentions and that would get her off their back.
As soon as they got to their city, Denzel called for an Uber and instructed the driver to drop his mother to her house so that they could thank his father before they would go to the Richards' mansion. His father was pleased to see them especially his wife and grandmother because he had missed his wife and was also glad that there had been a beautiful addition to their family. He carried Beryl in his arms with beams of smiles but because he was unknown to her, she gave a loud cry so he had to give her back to Phyllis. They couldn't sit down to have a conversation because the uber driver was waiting for them.
When they got to the Richards mansion, Mr. Richards and Amelia had gone out for a lunch date because Mr. Richards wanted to spend time with her so that they would get the chance to talk about what's been going on with her life especially about her relationship. He wanted to know if she was dating and if she was, then he would get to know about who he was dating and where the relationship was going.
Mrs. Richards couldn't hide her joy when she saw them. She had really missed them so much because she bonded with them before they travelled. She hugged Phyllis and took the baby from her so that she would have a look at her. She started crying when she held the baby and asked Phyllis to settle in their room so that she could have a talk with Denzel. When Phyllis excused them, Mrs. Richards knelt down to apologise to Denzel for every wrong she had committed against him. He helped her get on her knees and gave Beryl back to her because she had kept her on the bed so that she could kneel. Denzel asked him to tell him, the motive behind what she did. Mrs. Richards told him everything she knew including the love story between Mr. Richards and her biological mother, Felicity.
Denzel couldn't believe that Mr. Richards was his father and Mrs. Jones wasn't her biological mother. That woman had raised and treated him like her own son. He was now beginning to understand why she lacked nothing especially money even though she didn't work. That was something he had always wondered about but he was never able to find an answer to that. He began to wonder why Mr. Richards had kept all that from him even though he had kept him close to himself after he graduated from the law school. He cried for few minutes and then hugged Mrs. Richards because he understood her actions now that he knew the motive behind it even though that was extreme but he had learnt from the cases he had handled that pain provokes people to do things they never thought they could do even murder. They both agreed to keep it away from everyone including Mr. Richards and Mrs. Richards. He asked to be excused so that he could rest since he was jet lagged. She decided to keep the baby skin that Phyllis could also rest.
He found Phyllis already asleep in the room so he just washed down and joined her on the bed but made sure he didn't wake her up. He woke up after two hours of sleep to join the rest of the family in the living room. He was so happy to see his father, Mr. Richards but he pulled himself together so that he wouldn't raise any suspicions. Mr. Richards got up to hug him and told him he had missed him very much. The ladies were also planning Beryl's christening since they wanted it to be as soon as possible so that Phyllis could go to work.
Mr. Richards also went to sit at his balcony with Denzel so that they could talk. He asked Denzel the plans he had for Phyllis and his daughter, Beryl since they've been together for a while and he should know whether he wanted to settle down with Phyllis or not and if he didn't want to settle with her then he should leave her to go so that he doesn't waste her time. He also emphasized on how good she was and how she could impact his life if they should settle down. Denzel told him he intended to propose to her during Beryl's christening and then go to seek her hands in marriage from her parents if she agrees to his proposal.
Mr. Richards was very happy to witness his son marry the woman he loved though he was denied that opportunity and misses Felicity, Denzel's biological mother. He bowed his head down for a while because his eyes were filled with tears and he didn't want Denzel to see him else he would ask his reasons for crying. He wiped his tears and congratulated Denzel for a making that great decision. He promised to support him in anyways he needed his support. Denzel thanked him for being like a father to him and asked him why he treated him like a son. He smiled and said to him, " because you're like the son I had with the love of my life". Denzel was shocked and thought maybe that was his opportunity to get him to confess to him that he was his father but no matter how smart a child is, he never outruns his father. When Mr. Richards noticed Denzel was eager to ask him more questions based on his statement, he smiled at him and said, that was a lie son. I love you because you're just a replica of me and I couldn't love you any less than that.
They were later called inside to eat since dinner had been served. The three ladies had prepared the meals while they talked extensively on marriage and relationship. Mrs. Richards taught them a lot and told Phyllis to confide in her anytime she needed to talk because she loved her like a daughter. Phyllis knew she wasn't lying but she hadn't also forgotten she wanted Denzel killed and she intended to investigate her reasons for that once she started to go to work again. She thanked Mrs. Richards for being kind to her and for her advice. Mrs Richards felt relieved after she had the talk with Denzel and she felt good dinning with them. She was just thankful especially for Beryl's life. She felt like a grandmother now and treated her as such. Beryl reminded her so much of her husband especially her smiles. She smiled just like Mr. Richards and she just couldn't wait for her to grow. Mr. Richards told them over dinner to prepare to visit Phyllis' family the next day so that her parents will be at ease and get to meet their granddaughter, Beryl. According to him, grandchildren are the pride of their grandparents and he looked suspiciously at Amelia. She just laughed out loud and told him to wait a little longer for her. They later moved to the living area to play chess and talk until late in the night when they went to bed. There was joy in the Richards mansion and Mr. Richards was grateful for his grandaughter's life. He slept peacefully that night.
