章節 18: A GRACEFUL WOMAN IS HER MAN'S PRIDE
As the days went by their relationship grew stronger and beautiful though they had challenges. She forgot about her bad past experiences because Denzel showed her so much and worked hard to maintain their relationship. She called him "Joy" because he made her so happy and peaceful.
Denzel took Phyllis to one of his biggest client's business dinner on one Christmas eve. The client was a very wealthy man who had a business conglomerates worldwide and therefore had other wealthy business men and women as either clients or partners. This dinner had a lot of renowed people in attendance and therefore had a great security to make sure all the guests are well protected. When they got to the entrance of the man's house, the security man at the gate checked to see if their names were in the lists of the guests invited. Right after that, an usher walked them to the hall where the party was being held. They were approached by his client's only daughter, Amelia who had been in love with Denzel for years but had not won his love yet.
She smiled as she got to where they had reached and exchanged pleasantries with Denzel while she ignored Phyllis' presence. She started flirting with Denzel who gently brushed her off by introducing Phyllis as his girlfriend as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Phyllis smiled and stretched her arms to shake hands with her as a form of pleasantries sharing but Amelia withdrew her hands and snubbed her. She really felt embarrassed and hurt as there were a lot of people around who were watching them. Denzel who was angry asked to be excused as he walked away with Phyllis though Amelia was hesitant because she was still talking to him and actually wanted to be in his company.
Denzel took Phyllis to a quiet area of the hall and apologised to her. They hugged each other for sometime and launched into a passionate kiss which made Amelia jealous and angry since she was watching them. While the party was going on, Amelia's father gave a speech appreciating all his clients, partners, his legal team which had Denzel as it's leader and his family. He took to the dance floor to dance and he was joined by his beautiful wife. After dancing for a while he asked his daughter to join them but Amelia decided to not join them alone so he requested Denzel to join her on the dance floor and he politely refused because he was angry with how she treated Phyllis earlier on. He also thought it would be a disrespect to Phyllis and he would rather disrespect Amelia and lose his biggest client than to satisfy her and lose the love of his life, Phyllis.
Amelia felt humiliated by Denzel's refusal to join her but she smiled to hide it as she danced with her parents. The floor was opened to the guests to join the dance and Denzel asked for Phyllis' hand for a dance. She smiled with her eyes glittering and quickly gave him her hands as they hit the dance floor. She gracefully danced with him and they caught the attention of almost everyone present. They all left the dancefloor for Phyllis and Denzel to dance as they cheered them on. Amelia was heartbroken and jealous so she rushed inside her room to cry for sometime and then changed her dress and accessories before she joined the guests in the hall for the party.
She joined Phyllis and Denzel's table with the intention of making Phyllis uncomfortable and humiliate her at the end but whatever she did to achieve her purpose failed because Phyllis was a woman of class and grace. She looked at Amelia with a teasing smile and mocked her as all her attempts failed. Phyllis was so graceful that, she won the affection of everyone on her table and Denzel couldn't be any proud of himself as people kept complimenting him for his good taste in women. Amelia was angry and was scheming not only to humiliate her but to also break them up.
Phyllis asked to be excused as she felt like visiting the washroom because she was experiencing a stomach upset. Denzel got up with her and walked her out of the hall so that he could show her to the washroom but Amelia followed them and requested Denzel to allow her escort Phyllis to the washroom which they both obliged. She took Phyllis to her bedroom so that she could use her washroom since according to her, would give Phyllis more privacy and comfort but she had an evil intention of doing so. Phyllis suspected that she was hatching a diabolic plan towards her but couldn't wrap her hands around what exactly Amelia was trying to do so when they got to her room, she turned her phone's camera on and left it together with her purse in the room while she went to the washroom with her makeup kit.
Phyllis was astonished with Amelia's washroom. Everything there had a sensor and were very beautiful as well. She didn't even want to use the water closet because it was very beautiful. She was even scared to be alone in the washroom because of how beautiful the place was. She came out after sometime feeling comfortable and more confident as she took the opportunity to style her hair and perfect her make up. She went to Amelia's bedroom since she was waiting for her there and she took her bag and placed her makeup kit and phone inside as they left to join the party.
Denzel quickly rushed to walk her to their table and thanked Amelia for escorting her too. He hugged her as a token of appreciation and she couldn't hold her joy. They joined the table as the guests were eating and drinking. Denzel served both Amelia and Phyllis and they all joined the guests to eat. Denzel stopped eating for a while and began to feed Phyllis. She was initially shy but as people looked at them with admiration, she had no choice than to eat from him with smiles. She felt so special and so happy with the way she was being treated in the midst of all those renowned people. Some people even took their phones out to shoot a video of them because they were intrigued with how Denzel was treating her. A lot of the women commended Denzel for what he was doing and in no time were requesting for his complementary card because they wanted him to be their legal representative. They were so happy until Amelia started shouting and crying that she had lost a jewellery her dad gave as a birthday gift.
She insisted her dad ordered the security men to search everyone to look for the jewellery for her but her dad gave her the jewellery and told her he was about to put it on her when someone approached him and he forgot to give it to her. Amelia was surprised her dad had the jewellery. She was so angry because she had missed out on a good chance to break Denzel's relationship because Phyllis had already showed the video of Amelia's conversations with her friend telling her how she intends to put her jewellery in her purse so that she would call for a search to humiliate Phyllis which will provoke Denzel to break up with her so that she, Amelia would have Denzel to herself.
Phyllis told Amelia's dad that she didn't want to show the video to anyone else apart from him so that he would stop his daughter from humiliating her self and her parents as well. She even feared he would lose some clients and partners if Amelia should do that because they would feel offended since she would use the video to prove her innocence. So Amelia's father thanked her and showed his gratitude to her by hugging her because she had thought of his family's reputation and his business as well but Denzel walked in as he hugged her and felt angry because he thought Phyllis was cheating on him. He stood there for a while and then walked out of the room with her. She knew he was angry but she didn't want to tell him what had happened besides she was even offended he didn't trust her.
As they were about to leave, Amelia's father called them to join him and his wife in his study as he sent someone to call Amelia for him. He told them how Phyllis told him about what Amelia intended to do and the consequences of that on his business and family's reputation. Amelia's mother hugged Phyllis as she thanked her while her father asked her to apologise to Phyllis for what she intended to do to her. Amelia thanked Phyllis for saving her reputation and her family's at large. They both hugged as Amelia cried because she had not yet met anyone that was smart and kind as Phyllis was. Phyllis deleted the video from her phone in their presence because she didn't want anyone else to see it. They thanked her and Denzel requested for their permission to leave.
They were both quiet while he drove because she felt offended he could think she was cheating on him with Amelia's father and he was also ashamed of himself for thinking that about her. He drove her to his house and requested her to spend the night with him which she obliged though she was still angry. Denzel apologised to her while they laid on his bed and also commended her for what she did for Amelia's family. He told her how proud he was of her especially for the way she gracefully carried herself during the party. She logged in to her Facebook account and saw that they were trending. Videos of them eating and dancing were trending on all social media platforms and their friends too were sending them texts via WhatsApp teasing and commending them.
Amelia's father paid them a visit the next day to show his appreciation to them. He also requested Phyllis to be the Public Relations Officer of his business conglomerates since she was confidential and could be trusted. They asked to be excused so that they deliberated on it. Phyllis didn't want to accept the offer but Denzel convinced her to take it so she did and requested that the man give her a month to properly resign from her current job but the man promised to compensate her company on her behalf so she could start working for him right after the Christmas break. He also gave them a plane ticket as he had already organised and paid for a vacation for them. They thanked him over lunch as they were about to eat before he got there.
