章節 35: The commotion
The breakfast area in the common hall was bustling with the sound of people talking.
"Wow, I never thought that the news of the Fault to collapse is true! Luckily, we believed them and come here, and escape this. We are sure lucky."
"It is not called as lucky. This is called being competent. If we are not someone who is rich and reputable, do you think that they will contact us to be one of the sponsors to build this bunker? Nah, if we are not rich, we all would be just like them. They would only tell them only the last minute to escape, not like us who was informed 2 years ago about the possibility the Fault going to collapse, real soon."
"Yeah, I second that. Hahaha... Who said money can't buy everything? Look at us, isn't it because we have the money that we are able to survive this far?"
Waves of laughter erupted once the crowd heard the last comment.
Sure, money is really powerful.
With money, they can buy everything. Informations, loyalty, and even love. In this case, it is their own lives.

While the people inside the breakfast hall were rejoicing themselves from escaping death, Seth and Ben still could not get a hold of their father yet.
Both of them were restless, pacing around in Ben's room.
Its been an hour, but the phone line still did not connect their call.
"Ben, can you go and ask Jason for help again? I am sure he can check the immigration report? He will know if dad is still in Cali or already left for Toronto."
Seth face finally showed some colors after he heard Jane words. His eyes lit up in excitement when they finally able to confirm his father whereabout.
Seth did not manage to say another word as he saw his brother Ben quickly phoned his Commander friend, Jason.
Jason woke up groggily from the sound of his phone ringing. His head was pounding from the hungover.
"Who is it?" Rubbing his head with a frowning face, Jason fished out his phone from his pocket.
Looking at the caller ID, Jason pursed his lips.
Why is he calling him in this early morning?
"Hello..."
"Jason, Jason, I need your help. My father, can you check with the Immigration Department if my father is still in Cali or in Toronto?"
"Please, please help me. I am very worried, the San Andreas Fault suddenly collapsed this morning, and I can't even reach my father on the phone. The line was not even connecting."
Ben suddenly sobbed on the phone, startling Jason on the next line.
Jason was about to say something to Ben, about his authority is a bit limited once he chose to stay in this bunker, but he quickly swallowed down the words and he agreed to Ben's request.
"Okay, I will do anything I can to help. You just text me your father's full name."
Feeling like his burden finally being lifted off his shoulder, Ben sighed with relief.
"Thank you, thank you so much Jason. I don't know what else to do if you are not around."
Ben smiled and he looked at Seth and Jane.
There is hope now. Great, now they can finally breathe with much more ease. Ben believes in his friend's capability. To check someone's where-about is like a very simple thing for Jason, he should be able to receive the information by just a phone call away.
Feeling proud of his friend, Ben forgot for a moment to worry about his father. He then reminisced the old times together.
"I tell you, Jason has been an excellent kid ever since I knew him. A pure gentlemen. "
Ben grinned happily when he said that. He gripped his phone hard on his hand.
Seth on the other hand, he still did not give up yet on calling his father. From Seth's calls alone, he is sure that he has left for more than 100+ missed calls by now.
Feeling his chest being tight and he felt his breath hitched, Seth said to his brother Ben, "Yeah, your friend better have some news about dad. If not, I think I will have a heart attack from being worried."
Rubbing his chest, Seth sat down on the sofa, next to his wife. He stopped calling and drank the water on the coffee table.
Ben paced nervously in the living room again. He clutched his phone tightly on his chest in a praying manner.
"Ring... ring..."
Startled, Ben quickly answered his phone, "Jason, do you get it, do you know where my father is?"
"Ben, don't worry too much, your father is supposed to be back in Toronto by now. He left California on the day we arrived in Alaska. "
Jason reassured Ben, that all is fine now. Luckily, he still has some connections in the Immigration Department.
The room was all smile now. They all can finally be relaxed. Their father is safe, and probably has some problem with his phone right now, and that probably why he is unable to answer their call.
Feeling relieved, Seth and Jane went back to their own room.
After a while, their studio was knocked again by their daughter for breakfast. Throughout breakfast, both Lucy and Suzy kept quiet as their mind wanders to the recent disaster that has befallen upon the people of California.
"Dad, are the people inside this bunker is involved in the conspiracy too?" Lucy sudden question to all of them startled Ben so much.
"What conspiracy?"
