Shan lay on Lijuan's bed and buried her face in the pillow. She couldn't help the ache she was feeling in her heart at the thought of not seeing him for a long time. She had been able to stay away from him because she could always find out how he was doing from Lijuan and she had also entertained thoughts of running into him 'mistakenly' at some point. But now that he was so far away, she didn't know how to deal with it.

Lijuan stood behind her closed door with a heavy heart as she listened to Shan's muffled sobs. There was nothing she could possibly do to help Shan so she returned downstairs to join her family.

"Juan! Hurry, come sit. I prepared something nice for you all to see." Mother Mei said excitedly when she saw Lijuan returning downstairs.
