"I have an idea. Lillian is going to come and live with me back at the mansion."
Katherine's word not only left Blake all worried, but they also shook the old butler who was standing near the entrance of the hall with his eyes looking everywhere but at the trio.
"No." Blake spoke up as soon as he came out of his earlier shock. "That is something which is never going to happen." He shook his head as he stated firmly. He would never allow this to happen on his watch.
"But, why?" Katherine stomped her foot on the ground as she demanded for an explanation. She had given him such a wonderful idea, yet his dear brother was refusing to let her do as she pleased.
"Are you seriously asking me that?" Blake gave her a are-you-kidding-me look as he replied to her with a question of his own.
"Yes, I am." Katherine refused to back down with a fight. "Why can't she stay with me meanwhile she recovers? Once she is all healthy and fit, she can come back here and get on with her training." She tried to reason with her strong headed brother who looked like he was not going to listen to anyone.
Listening to what had to say, Blake just shook his head. "You want to know why I am not agreeing with this, I will tell you. Why do you not have a pet when you love to have one? Especially a cat." He spoke up, throwing another question in her direction.
"What are you saying? I don't have one because I do not have the time to have one." Katherine frowned as she answered him.
"No, you are wrong there. You don't have a pet cat because I don't allow you to have one. You'd want to know why? Because when you were in your early teens, you used to have one." He started to explain it to her.
"Yes, I know. How can I forget Mr. Blitz!" She added to his words as the frown on her face deepened.
"Do you recall what happened to your Mr. Blitz?" Blake asked her once again.
"He ran away." With a long, sad sigh, Katherine replied to him. Her eyes were looking down on the clean floor, and her hands were folded across her chest. Her lips were curled up in a sad smile as she recalled the old times back.
Mr. Blitz was a pure breed Scottish Fold with grayish black fur, and a golden globe like orbs. She got the cat as a birthday present when she turned thirteen. She was fond of the mischievous little fur ball, but she only got to spend a year with him before he disappeared.
"Hold on!" She snapped her neck in his direction. "Are you trying to say that she will run away like Mr. Blitz too if you leave her under my care?" She narrowed her eyes at him. "How petty of you to think that I can not take care of another human!" She humped.
Lillian, who was watching the back and forth banters quietly from the sidelines, was left shocked. She knew that she wasn't someone who could be left alone, but she was not going to run away if Blake's mind was really going down that direction. She was more smart than a pet.
"No, I am not. You are the one who is implying that." He rolled his eyes without even stealing a glance in Lillian's direction. "Also, this may be hard for you, but I believe you are old enough now to know the truth." He added as he cautiously took a step back.
"What truth?" Katherine looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.
"The truth behind Mr. Blitz's disappearance, Katty." He answered her. "Dad lied to you, he didn't run away."
"What do you mean by that? He ran away while I was at my friend's birthday party. Dad told me this himself." She shook her head as she corrected him.
"You were only fourteen, Dad had to lie to you." He added with a sad look on his face.
"What lie?" Katherine took a step forward in his direction as she asked him. The more Blake talked about it, the sadder she grew. Each of his words was only leaving her more and more confused.
"Mr. Blitz didn't run away, he died." Blake finally uttered it out for his own good. Any more delay, and Katherine would have been running after him, thirsty for his blood.
"W-what!" She shook her head frantically. "How low can you stoop down? Just because you don't want to leave Lillian alone with me, you are fabricating such heinous lies." She refused to buy his words.
"I am not lying to you, Katty. We knew that you'd cry for days to come, so we had to come up with something." He explained only to earn deadly glares from her. He took another step back carefully before stepping behind Lillian. He didn't want to do it, but only using her as a human shield could save him from his sister's wrath.
"You knew this all along!" It was more of a statement as the words came out of her mouth.
"I was the one who found Mr. Blitz dead. Of course I knew it." Blake spat back at her. He was not so much fond of the annoying ball of fur, but he had gotten used to having him around.
Even though he didn't cry after finding his cold body, the next few days weren't really easy for him. Especially when he would run into Katherine. It only made him recall how he had to keep it a secret just for her own sake.
"Are you trying to say that all those days when you said you were out looking for Mr. Blitz, you weren't really looking for him?" Katherine continued to glare daggers at his face. "What happened to those fliers which you were supposed to distribute around in the neighborhood?"
"Those fliers?" He really didn't know how to answer that. "Umm… they were shoved inside a paper shredder." He added meekly as he grabbed Lillian's shoulders.
True to his thoughts, as soon as he was finished answering her, she came running at him like a mad tornado.
