Anne Neville:
I lay in my bed as I wasn't ready to go to sleep. Me and Issy had been so excited to marry Richard and George. But now the King has decided to change his mind, and we are left in the cold. "What will happen to us Issy?"
"Well, Father will find us someone else, I suppose." I thought of all the options father has, "Could you marry the prince of France? He's not married yet!" I spoke in a hushed tone, I knew better than to talk about things like this.
"What use is The Prince Of France? We must get ourselves in the line of succession here, Anne. Everything that has happened, Anne, is her fault. She has ruined her matches and" Issy pauses, "And we are insulted. She is another Bad Queen, just like the last one."
Then that was when I remembered was Issy use to tell me about the old Bad Queen. It was a very fun story and I always loved when she told me it, and so did she.
"Tell me about the Bad Queen, Issy. What was she like again?" Issy turned to look at me, and gave me the biggest smile in the world.
"The Bad Queen called herself, Margaret of Anjou." Issy turns to a little chest where underneath we have hidden our little puppets which we use to tell the story of the Bad Queen. Also known as Margaret Of Anjou.
"But really she was a she-wolf and she rode at the head of an army." Issy put up the little picture to tell a story on the wall. "Of naked, wild men and everything in their path turned to ice!"
It was a story telling how the Bad Queen used her husband to get on the throne. She wasn't grateful enough already to be Queen, but she also wanted to rule England. So she attempted to kill her husband, and cheat on him.
It's a fascinating story, but it's also a chilling story. I wonder if women could actually have such power. Issy continued her story, "They carried the sleeping king foward in a big glass coffin, and while he slept the she-wolf tore apart England with her terrible ambition!"
I had always wondered if one day maybe I could become Queen. "Queen Anne" It sounds very beautiful. I wonder if Richard would be the one at my side, as my King.
"She murdered our grandfather" Issy says that as she makes this weird noise you'd hear someone make when they have been stabbed by a medal sword. "And she tried to spear father with a roasting spit!" Then she makes another weird noise,
"But one day, Father and King Edward fought a battle against her, uphill, in the snow. It was the bloodiest battle ever." Then again another weird noise. The story almost is as if it's happening right in front of me.
"And she lost, so she blew away like a blizzard into the cold, cold north. And Edward became the king." She greets me with a spooky wicked smile. "And her son? The Prince of Ice?"
"Ahh, yes her son. Prince Edward is an ice boy. He cut off two men's heads when he was only seven years old!" Then she signals for me to lean in, Is she going to tell me a secret, or does she not want father to know?
"But he is not really Henry's boy, because the King was always sleeping. So they say that his father is the Devil!" Everytime Issy tells me this story she adds an extra twist. So it gets better and better, what if Princess Elizabeth is not really King Edward's daughter?
Does it mean we have a new Bad Queen in England?
