I thanked the passenger for the information and made my way to the front of the the wagon. The sky was starting to turn orange and in the distance I could see a town. It looked much larger than the village and had a 3 meter tall wooden wall surrounding it. The driver noticed my head sticking out of the tarp.
"Are you that excited?"
I gave a wry smile, of course I was excited. I had been fighting bandits, traveling alone with a walking corpse, and then sitting in an uncomfortable wagon with a bunch of strangers since I entered this world. I'm surprised even with the support of my jobs I hadn't died from the shock of doing so much out of the comfort of my cave. I was incredibly excited to rent a room for the night and huddle under the covers of a small room.
"Y-y...."
When I was trying to reply to him I heard a loud crunching noise and then I suddenly felt warm liquid hit the side of my face. I turned to the right to see one the guards riding along side of us... it looked like half of his face was missing. It had been hit with such force that the right half had been blown apart. His neck was bent in an unnatural position and his remaining eye had rolled back into what was left of his head.
"ATTACKKKKK!!!!! RUN FOR THE TOWN!!!!"
The remaining guard was the first to react, yelling for the wagon to flee to the safety of the town. The driver immediately whipped the horses to speed up. It seems my footing wasn't so great as the acceleration caused me to trip and I went tumbling backwards.... right out of the back of the wagon.
As I pushed myself off the ground I saw the wagon quickly pulling away. Then I turned toward the sounds of battle. The remaining guard was bleeding heavily and trying desperately to use his shield to fend off an attack from... Snarf Snarf?
