章節 8: Chapter 8

A few months had passed since the arrival of Blue. Akela, Kiba and Blue herself had become fast friends. Blue explained to the pack that she was mixed with a rare species of wolf. Her father was a dire, a big brutish wolf with powerful muscles and strong jaws lined with ferocious teeth. Her mother was a regular wolf, and she got most of her traits from her father. Though her father was quite large, she got her size from her mother, so she was a bit smaller than Akela and Kiba.

Blue made everyone happy. She also spent time with the brothers. As she got to know them...she started to have feelings for Akela. After all, he did help her find a home and made her feel welcome. She spent most of her time with him, and she liked his company. Kiba, on the other hand, was downright jealous of the whole thing. Ever since Blue had arrived, she spent more and more of her time with his brother and not him. Sure she spent time with him as well, but not as frequently as he had liked. Kiba became more of a loner; taking long walks and sometimes not coming back until dinner. It made his brother and his father worried.

Nightlight knew that this wasn't like Kiba at all, but Pandora said that he probably just wanted to spend some time by himself. One day, while the pack was out hunting, Akela was with Blue on a small hill that looked out across the mountains. The sun was just starting to set, and it made the sky orange. Blue turned to look at Akela. "Do you know if Kiba will be joining us? He's been quite distant lately." Akela looked at her. "I don't know. He's not the same since you've arrived. His personality has changed, and it concerns me."

Blue sighed knowing that Akela was right. Kiba wasn't the same as he used to be. "Tell you what...I'll talk to him tomorrow and see what's bothering him. Maybe he'll be better if he talks to someone." Akela chuckled. "Not a bad idea. Thanks Blue, I'll have to do something for you." Blue nuzzled him under his chin. "You won't have to do anything for me. It's just a favor."

Akela chuckled. The following day, Blue went out to look for Kiba. Akela was talking to Nightlight outside the den, while Pandora was out with the other's hunting. She nodded to Nightlight and Akela as she passed them. She picked up Kiba's scent near the forest, and followed it. Moments later, she found him lying on a rock. Letting the sun shine on his white pelt. "Kiba?" she called.

He lifted his head to look at her. "Hi Blue…." She walked up to the rock and looked at him. "Are you okay? You've been quite distant since I've arrived. Did I do something wrong?" Kiba rolled over until he was sitting up. He looked at her for a moment, then said "No...it isn't your fault I've been away. I thought that you could spend time with my brother while I was out. Being by myself helps me think. Especially about wolves I care about."

Blue sighed. "I understand Kiba. Really...I do, but I was wondering why you haven't been around. Your father is worried about you, and so is your brother. I do too, I care about you Kiba." Kiba smiled and jumped off the rock. He looked at Blue with his light yellow eyes. "I know you all do...but, I like being out here."

Blue tilted her head. "What do you mean?" Kiba sat down, lifted his leg and scratched long and painstakingly at his ear. Lowering his leg, he says, "Well...I like being on my own. Not having to rely on anyone but myself, being out here in the wilderness. It makes me feel open with myself, and I can do what I want...when I want to do it."

Blue was silent for a moment. Then looked at him with her light blue eyes. "Kiba… if you're thinking about being a loner when you're older, you shouldn't. Some wolves don't survive long as loners. I don't know what made you this way, but you should spend time with Akela more...he's worried about you." Kiba looked at her with stern eyes. "How would you know? Does he say everything to you?"

Blue looked shocked. "No...not everything. He's your brother, and he's supposed to be worried about you." Kiba scoffed. "You wouldn't understand what it's like to have a sibling. You don't even remember where you came from!" he says angrily. Blue looked hurt. "I do know where I came from...I just don't like talking about it…" Kiba growled. "Is that so? Then how come you didn't say that the first time you arrived? Huh? Maybe you were more focused on my brother than that…" Blue looked like she was about to cry.

"I was scared Kiba. What else was I supposed to do? Just lay there like a coward? I was so scared that I could tell that all of you could smell my fear! I reeked of it! Do you know what it's like being scared?" Kiba huffed. "No, I never have. Why am I even talking to you? All you care about is my brother!

Maybe if you haven't joined, he would spend his time with me like we have before! If I were him I would have left you there to die and then I'd be better off not mentioning you!!" Kiba walked past her slapping his tail in her face. Blue stood there in silence to be shocked at what she just heard. Then it sunk in...and she laid down on the forest floor and let her tears roll down her face.

She never felt this pain in such a long time. She knew that her family was gone...and she didn't want to talk about her past. The thought brought her no comfort, and she cried even harder. As the stars began to shine, Blue still stayed out in the forest; heartbroken at what Kiba said to her. She was so miserable and sad that she didn't hear Akela come up to her. "Blue? What are you doing out here? What's wrong?" She didn't even turn to look at him. "Nothing…" she mutters. Akela stood next to her. "Nothing? Then why do tears stain your face?" Blue looked up at him with her light blue eyes. "Please just...stay with me…"

Akela laid down next to her. "I'm not going anywhere...if there's something you need me to do, just name it." Blue looked at him for a moment, then rested her head on his left leg. Akela sighed and placed his head down, where his muzzle was just touching hers in a comfortable way. He wished he could do something to make her feel better, he just didn't know how. Hopefully tomorrow he will think of something..something to cheer her up.
