Chapter 17 — Rising Sun
After completing the wolf's revenge, Ning Chen stealthily went back toward the cave he previously stayed at.
He spent the rest of the night inside the cave to rest.
The next morning, the sun was already above the sky, eradicating all of the darkness.
Ning Chen woke up inside his tent, feeling an abundant vigor circulating through his veins.
"It's sure nice to sleep along with the nature," He muttered while having a relaxed smile.
Ning Chen then proceeded to eat his breakfast by cooking some meats that were stored inside his spatial storage.
While eating his food which couldn't compare to Yu Liena's own cooking, Ning Chen pondered on what to training should do next.
His intent seed had grown greatly after what happened yesterday, but it was still far from ripening so he couldn't train on it for now.
Ning Chen pondered for a long time before finally deciding to familiarized himself on using his new abilities and also train on using it all efficiently.
Athough his spirit ring abilities were powerful, it also consumed a large amount of spirit power.
And if he awakened his sword intent in the future, Ning Chen felt he would always get sucked dry even with his abnormally dense spirit power.
To reduce this terrifying spirit power consumption, Ning Chen thought the best way was to activate his spirit abilities without letting any spirit power leak out and contained it all.
The only way to achieve this was by improving his spirit control that could also allow him to activate and deactivate his spirit abilities instantly without any delay which can further lessen the spirit power consumption.
Improving his spirit control would also allow him to use two or more spirit rings at the same time.
Ning Chen also felt his greatest flaw was his spirit control since he hadn't made any effort to improve it.
However, Ning Chen didn't know the best way to train his spirit control. He then decided to walk around the forest, hoping to gain some insights from nature.
He walked around while in deep thoughts and after a long time of travelling without gaining any insights, Ning Chen took a short break underneath a large tree.
Ning Chen sat there dazedly as several ideas crossed inside his head, but all of that ideas soon vanished into nothingness as he saw a green leaf slowly falling down.
Ning Chen unconsciously injected his spirit power toward the green leaf, but he was surprised to see it exploding into pieces.
His eyes widened as it sparkled like an amethyst gem. A spirit control training was immediately created inside his head.
Ning Chen shook the tree behind him strongly, causing bunch of leaves to fall down.
He quickly grabbed one leaf and placed it on his forehead, injecting his spirit power toward the leaf in order to let it stick on his skin.
Boom!
The green leaf exploded again after receiving contact with his spirit power, but Ning Chen wasn't dejected.
He was instead delighted as he was able to guess why the leaf would explode after receiving his spirit power.
Ning Chen injected too much spirit power on the leaf, causing it to become unstable and explode under the pressure of his spirit power.
After coming into that conclusion, Ning Chen quickly went to try his third experiment.
The leaf this time didn't exploded, but it quickly fell down toward the ground and didn't stick into his skin as he intended.
He injected his spirit power too little this time.
Ning Chen continued to practice for several times and gradually improved his spirit control as time passed.
He also discovered that his way of injecting wasn't the best method of controlling his spirit power.
The best way was through 'breathing' in his spirit power to his body, objects and spirit rings.
After a week of spirit control training, Ning Chen was now able to cover the entirety of his arms with leaves, but he didn't stopped training over his spirit control.
He was planning on eventually being able to cover himself with leaves and then move in to a more difficult training ways.
In the next few months, Ning Chen spent most of his time on meditation.
He had already completed his task of covering his whole body with leaves and he was now trying to destroy rocks using only his spirit power.
As a result of all that training, Ning Chen was able to feel his spirit control improving greatly.
Ning Chen was also hoping that he could eventually walk on the surface of a water once his spirit control reach a certain level.
But he had only recently mastered of 'breathing' to control his spirit power, making him use it more efficiently without any waste and control it with ease.
After thinking that his growth was enough, Ning Chen decided to fight a strong spirit beast to test out his current power before returning back.
The spirit beast he was gonna fight was already settled.
It was the tyrant reigning over the area he was currently residing.
The tyrant was called Blazing Spirit Eagle which had a phoenix blood running through it's veins and was currently 1999 years old.
Ning Chen went toward the place where the Blazing Spirit Eagle was resting and quickly found it's nest.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle's body was very large, larger than the trees outside the forest. It had a reddish-black crown feathers and a massive arched beak.
It's two crimson eyes were very sharp, seemingly able to see through anything.
(A/N: Just imagine the philippine eagle, but reddish-black.)
"The tyrant ruling over this area, I challenge you to a fight. Do you dare to accept my challenge?" Ning Chen said loudly while standing infront the large eagle.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle stared at Ning Chen in annoyance and then released a sky shaking cry.
It accepted Ning Chen's challenge
The Blazing Spirit Eagle was very eager to teach this arrogant young brat some lessons.
Ning Chen grinned fiercely as a terrifying amount of fighting spirit began to gather within him.
Whenever he gather fighting Spirit, Ning Chen always forgot himself, changing into a man who thirst for a good fight.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle flew toward the sky and glanced downward at Ning Chen, seemingly looking down at him.
Ning Chen didn't cared about the eagle's arrogance. His fighting spirit just spread out everywhere like fierce waves, making the place descend in solemn silence.
In this tense silence, a terrifying pressure was slowly building up inside Ning Chen
The Blazing Spirit Eagle cried out, feeling slightly afraid of Ning Chen's pressure, but it soon calmed down.
It spread out both of it's wings and waved it strongly, causing a strong gust of wind to appear which was also accompanied with hundreds of blazing fireballs.
All of those blazing fireballs and powerful whirlwinds descended toward Ning Chen.
<Second Sword Color: Green Dragon Agility>
Ning Chen activated his second spirit ring in an instant without moving a muscles.
There was also no changes that happened on his appearance except his eyes which were now colored green.
He had contained everything within him, not letting any single energy to leak out.
Huff...
Taking a deep breath, Ning Chen's green eyes became calm as the wind while staring at those hundred or so fireballs
It couldn't compare to the hanging woods training he did before.
Ning Chen escaped from the powerful whirlwinds by feeling the flow of the wind.
He then started avoiding the fireballs with a simple yet elegant footwork.
Boom!
The fireballs descended behind him, creating huge explosions.
The fireballs couldn't harm in the end.
Ning Chen's eyes returned back to their normal amethyst color. He had deactivated his spirit ability.
He then faintly smiled at the eagle and beconed toward it, "Try a little harder."
The Blazing Spirit Eagle felt it's pride getting damaged, but It knew getting mad wouldn't help it.
It let out an extremely loud cry, it's whole body surging with crimson flames that wanted to incinerate everything on it's path.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle flew very high up on the sky, it's figure becoming one with the sun.
It's whole body was clad in crimson flames as it suddenly started diving down toward Ning Chen like a crimson meteor.
Seeing the eagle which resembled a meteor, Ning Chen was struck with inspiration as his intent seed began to beat with the world.
He placed his sword back inside the scabbard as hints of colorless light were released from his eyes.
<First Sword Color: Red Dragon Power>
Ning Chen's eyes turned crimson color as his body appeared to become larger.
He tried to draw out his sword from the scabbard again, but it was extremely heavy.
Ning Chen didn't give up on pulling his sword out from the scabbard. His muscles swelled up disgustingly as worms-like veins appeared on his skin.
He had strained his whole body to their very limits just to draw out his sword.
Shinngg!
An ear-piercing vibration echoed through the air as his sword was drawn out, slashing upward toward the eagle.
The crimson blade of the sword was releasing a faint colorless aura that quickly transformed into hints of crimson flames.
<Sword Draw: Rising Sun>
Ning Chen felt at this short moment, everything became slow to his eyes.
He became the sun, extinguishing everything before him.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle was terrified to see the sword that resembled the sun heading toward it, but the world seemed to bind it's own body, not making it able to move.
As the eagle thought it was gonna die, the sword strike suddenly vanished as if it was just an Illusion.
It floated suspended on the air, not being able to process everything.
Ning Chen quickly left without saying any words as he didn't have any intention of killing the eagle at the first place.
He instead wanted to completely process what happened earlier.
For some reason, he was able to use the sword intent in his last attack.
The Blazing Spirit Eagle silently stared at Ning Chen leaving the area. It was abit grateful for him not killing it.
It had already lost count of how many people had wanted it's own life ever since it was born after all...
