章節 65: Quill and Parchment

The next profession he would take on was the Inscription skill, something he had no idea about, after paying the fee and getting his startin materials he realized that this was just a form of calligraphy, sure the writing was intricate and beautiful but what use could this be?

The instruction hall was Japanese style, paper walls and padded floors, elegant and also simplistic, there were several standing desks set around the room with many practice materials for use, the space was quiet and distraction free.

As he finished the basic design his questions were answered, he acquired his first glyph, and as he looked at it he realized their use, they were fill in skills, this first one was a weak healing spell, he looked through others, attack spells, enhancements spells, they were all here, they were weaker than their class counterparts but could be useful in certain situations, Ulric began to think what would help him most? attack spells? not really as his magic power was non existent, skills? nope his attack power was trash compared to someone who could use a real weapon, finally he settled on flat score buff scrolls that would add to his basic stats, and a weak long range magic missile he could use to pull a single monster away from a group.

As he learned more about this profession he learned most of the glyphs he created were basically pre-made, as his skill improved he was taught that the words he was writing with the inscription tools were all infused with a little magic, and that combining them could produce many effects, for example combining the glyph for tough skin and the glyph for stone would increase protection a lot, but would also greatly slow you down, an upside and a downside, the more complex the glyph the more high end and expensive the materials would be, so even with the income he had, more than 2 or 3 words was much too expensive for something that could only be used once.

Unlike the other crafting jobs Inscription was much less automated, and required you to do most of it yourself, and Ulric liked that, but he could also see why it was not popular, it was too cost heavy to be much practical use, but he still managed to become a grand-master in it much faster than Weapon-smithing, armoring, and weaving, he had fun doing it, and got some usable scrolls out of it.
