I ran as fast as I could, hoping that the meteor pieces didn't notice my presence.
A low whistling sound from behind me dashed those hopes into oblivion.
I knew damn well that looking behind me was a bad idea, so I had the Gods watch my back.
{One of them noticed you, and it alerted the horde.}
'This is some grade-A bullshit right here.'
{You brought this upon yourself.}
And so I kept running, and I kept running until the first piece neared me, the whistling sound irritating to hear, but also a clear warning to me.
I immediately switched directions, hoping to dodge the meteorite chunk's flight path.
I could both feel and hear the chunk pass me by, and it was terrifying to experience.
This was going to be a tough encounter, and I knew it.
{You are losing your headstart. I recommend that you hurry up and run faster.}
'I'm trying my hardest, dammit!'
{Yeah, but you have to try harder than your best to survive.}
'What the f*** do you mean by "better than my best"! It's my best for a reason!'
{You know exactly what I mean.}
'Yeah, but it doesn't mean I like it!'
While I was having this conversation with the Gods, my lead was quickly disappearing, and that did not bode well for me.
Not at all.
-Everywhere-
the universe was watching the trial it had come up with, noting its success in challenging the summoned being.
~This is quite satisfying to see. I wonder if they will call my challenges easy anymore? I hope they keep going so that I have more excuses to give more challenges. Oh what fun that would be.~
While the entity did not have a defined form, if it did, it would be grinning from ear to ear.
~I wonder how they will get out of this situation? What ingenuity will they come up with to solve this deadly foe? The future shall tell, and I shall listen to its words.~
The entity seems to notice something, and it seems pleasantly surprised.
~Oh? I have visitors, do I? You shouldn't be here, so hurry along to where you are supposed to be. You do not want to miss part of the story do you?~
-Back to Talon-
This is getting tedious, and I hate it so much.'
{You shouldn't complain about a problem you caused yourself.}
'I know I shouldn't, but I still will since I am currently in a less than desirable situation.'
{Your fault, your problem.}
'F*** off. You are getting booted for now.'
{How do you keep doing th-}
I was still running, but now I have a faint self-satisfied smile on my face.
'Still got it.'
Without the voice in my head, I noticed just how loud the whistling truly was.
And then I realized that it shouldn't be loud.
'Shit!'
I had barely dodged a deathblow to my skull, and boy was I glad that I did.
'What the f*** is wrong with these things.'
And then the rest of the meteorites finally erased my headstart, the swarm of rock whistling towards me.
'I guess this is how I am going to die. By turning into a human-sized piece of swiss cheese.'
I realized that giving up would only kill me faster than not, and I want to live as long as I can possibly live.
'NO! I will not give up. I will make it out of this ali- Oh shit!'
I wasn't able to complete my speech to hype myself up since I had somehow tripped over a stone on the ground, and fallen into a hole that barely fits a human body.
I fell down the hole for a good few seconds, contemplating my imminent death via meteor buckshot, but I was pleasantly surprised to not have any extra holes in my body.
A second after my realization, I finally hit something.
I had landed in a lake, and it was surrounding a seemingly untamed, albeit peaceful seeming, island.
-Everywhere-
The entity seemed both pleased and annoyed at the outcome of the chase.
~The hero just had to end up falling there, didn't he? I can't tell if he is lucky or unlucky, ending up in such a place. I wonder what his reaction to what this place really is will be?~
-Somewhere undefined, a few seconds back-
The Gods were watching the screen with anticipation, wondering what might happen now that their entertainment had finally lost the lead.
The first voice spoke up, catching the attention of the other three entities.
"Do you all think he will survive this?"
The second voice said their piece as well.
"I believe that he has the luck to survive the ordeal, even if he does not resort to unorthodox solutions."
The third voice seemed discontent with the second voice's thoughts.
"You believe him to be able to survive this? I think he will die to this swarm of meteorite pieces."
The fourth voice chimed in last, seemingly confident in their thoughts.
"I expect us to be surprised by the results of the chase. The hero does seem to have some rather interesting misadventures, no?"
The other three entities nodded in unison, and the first voice spoke up.
"Interesting misadventures is an adequate way to put it, but I would rather call it something akin to some events of theirs ending up FUBAR."
The second voice seemed confused at the strange term used by the first.
"Why did you abbreviate those words? You could always just say them."
The first voice laughed at the words of the second.
"Do you not see? We have visitors at the moment, and we are trying to keep at least some semblance of child-friendliness."
The second voice looked around, before locking their eyes onto empty air.
"I see. It appears that our guests have overstayed their visit though. Perhaps we should send them back to their main focus."
The four entities nodded in unison and merged back into their 'complete' form.
The overlapping voices of the combined Gods spoke to the nonexistent object:
"Farewell, we hope to see you once again. It is too bad that you are something between the boundaries of reality. We hope you enjoyed the view.
-Back to Talon, in the present-
I had finally reached the coast of the island, and I was finally able to get a good look at what the foliage had hidden from me while I was swimming.
"Is that a... coliseum?"
I wonder what it holds?
I had no idea how to end it, and I feel that the transition from meteorite to underground coliseum was a bit rushed, but I feel that this chapter came out well.
What was your opinion on the viewpoints? I decided to test out using more viewpoint dialogue from the higher beings.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
This is the point where I start adding in my own stuff to the story for fun, and I have no idea where I am going with this. (As always.)
I kinda feel bad for the bad pun in the title.
