Apparently the thing was called a slime staff, and it is something I have not seen before.
[Slime Staff
Damage: 8
Very weak knockback
Average speed
Use: summons a baby slime to fight for you.]
When I saw the stats, I was kind of underwhelmed since they were worse than my sword. And then I saw that it was a summoning weapon, so I immediately regained interest in it.
I decided that there was no better time to test out the staff, so I used it immediately.
The sight of the baby slime appearing was the exact opposite of what I was expecting. It was just a flash of light and suddenly a small slime is standing in front of me. Weird.
I decided to see if I could summon more slimes, but it seemed to teleport the baby slime to me
The baby slime looked like a pale green slime about half the size of a normal green slime, but with large eyes. It for some reason had two red circles on its cheeks as well, which I just assumed to be part of the look for it. It was honestly pretty cute.
It looked so harmless that I could not have imagined that it was a summoned monster.
I decided to continue my exploration, and the slime bounced after me as I walked. I wanted to see whether the slime could keep up with me, so I began running at my top speed.
It grew wings and started flying after me, and then 'ungrew' them when it reached me.
It was not an everyday thing that could be accepted so easily, so I began running again. And the slime regrew its wings. And 'ungrew' them again.
I decided that thinking about why it did that would go nowhere, so I just thought 'screw it' and accepted the fact that baby slimes grow wings.
At this point, I may or may not have gotten lost. I ran a bit too far into the forest while studying the slime, and lost track of where I was.
I looked at my surroundings and realized that I may have had a bit too much fun running around the forest, since I had no idea where I was.
I looked at the surroundings a bit more intently, hoping to find something that could actually lead me home. I did see something familiar, but it was a giant tree.
I decided to test my luck, and ran towards it.
By the time I reached it, I had realized that the tree was definitely not the one I saw before. It was hollow inside, and there was a hole in the wood that lead downward.
I decided to test my lick and head inside the tree, which could end terribly.
As I climbed downward, I noticed that I had gone down at least a hundred feet.
By the time I had headed down 150 feet, I had finally encountered a door on a ledge made of the same wood as the walls.
I opened the door, and did not expect to see what was in there.
It looked like a home that had been abandoned for years, if the layers of dust were anything to go of of.
As I looked around, I noticed that everything was made of the same type of wood as the tree. It looked like the inhabitants had molded this room from the roots of the tree.
The room was rectangular, with a wooden table and two chairs. It had a rug that seemed to be made out of leaves in the center of the room, and even some weird loom made out of wood and leaves. I also noticed one last detail.
There was what seemed to be a weapon rack that held only two items: A stick with a small leaf on the end, and a giant leaf. I decided to inspect the items to see what they were.
[Leaf Wand
Use: Places leaves]
[Living Wood Wand
Use: Places living wood]
These have to be the most unhelpful descriptions ever. They barely even tell me anything about the actual wand's uses, let alone how to use it!
I decided that there would only be one way to find out how they worked, and that would be trial and error. And I decided that I would start testing now.
I thought that it would make sense if I just tried to copy the wizard stereotype with the staff, and I just waved it in the air.
To my surprise, the stupid waving motion worked, and summoned a block of live wood in front of me.
I repeated the same procedure with the leaf wand, which yielded the same results.
'These could have potential if I use them right...'
As I was thinking about magical items, I recalled a certain item I had in my possession, and the one line describing its uses.
[Magic Mirror
Use: Gaze into the mirror to return home]
I felt stupid after remembering that I had it in my inventory, so I decided that now would be the best time to use it.
I was immediately teleported home, along with my temporarily forgotten companion. It did not seem to mind my disregard of its existence, though.
As I looked around once again, I noticed that both Jacob and Isaac were staring at me in surprise.
"What?"
Jacob was the first to respond to my query.
"Do you realize that you have been missing all day? We had no idea where you went!"
"Well I may have gotten a little lost, so I don't really know where I went either to be honest..."
At that point I was looking away slightly embarrassed.
Isaac had decided that now was the time to speak up, since nobody was talking.
"What were you doing out there anyway, kid?"
"I thought it would be a good idea to scope out the surroundings, which lead to me finding a slime staff and a giant tree with an abandoned home in it."
After I said that, Jacob had, surprisingly, demanded that I explain what it looked like. I explained what it looked like, and Jacob told me that I may have stumbled upon the former home of a dryad.
"The heck is a dryad?"
"The dryads were a peacekeeping race of sorts. They tended to deal with problems that were a threat to the world, since they were a literal part of it."
At this point, I had finally realized how little I knew about this world, and I knew I would have to rectify that problem later today.
The lore of Terraria is pretty interesting when you look at it since it makes the story so much darker.
So yeah, prepare for a info dump next chapter. I decided to add a little of my own ideas here and there.
