The cigarette was burnt out, and Sheng Yuchen snuffed it in the crystal ashtray.
It was not just Sheng Yuchen who spent a sleepless night.
Early the next morning, Mu Chuqing woke up with heavy eye bags. She looked up and realized it was already eight o'clock.
She jumped off the bed and briefly washed herself up. When she opened the refrigerator, she found only a single can of milk inside. She sighed and ran out of the door, holding the can.
Reaching the company on time, Mu Chuqing had just reached the top floor, at her office, when the secretary called, "CEO Mu, you have a guest waiting for you at the guest room!"
Mu Chuqing frowned, who could it be in early in the morning?
Opening up the door to the guest room, Mu Chuqing's eyes lit up.
"Godmother!"
Inside the room, a middle-aged lady was sitting elegantly as she raised her eyes at the voice. Surprise flashed across those eyes before it was filled with much discontent.
"So you still know I'm your godmother?"
Mu Chuqing smiled brightly before going up to hold the woman's arm, rubbing her face against the woman's lovingly.
"No, I thought of visiting you right after finishing up work here!"
The lady was Mu Chuqing's godmother, whom she got to know at a celebration three years ago. At that time, Ye Yun poured a bucket of iced water over her to defend Chang Chu, without caring who was at fault. It was this woman who stood out to speak up for her.
Ye Yun had always belittled her background back then, insisting that Mu Chuqing wanted to climb the social ladder and increase her social status by seducing her son.
In front of a crowd, she never bothered to give her some face.
Not only did Xu Jiahui speak out and admit Mu Chuqing as her god-daughter. She also said if Mu Chuqing was capable, it should be determined by the number of assets or properties she managed to get.
Why would she do that!
Mu Chuqing just felt guilty that she did not even get to inform her godmother when she left some years ago. Today, she was afraid that the matter of her return was known from the news she saw.
"Sorry, Godmother!"
Seeing the face of Mu Chuqing, no matter how angry Xu Jiahui felt, it all dissipated in an instant.
She sighed and looked at Mu Chuqing. She looked prettier and more mature than she was a few years ago, her childishness fading a bit.
Even though she was skinnier, this was not of so much concern since that could be made up for by slowly gaining weight.
Xu Jiahui smiled, a gleam of light flashed across her bright eyes.
"Chuqing, do you have a boyfriend?"
Taken aback, Mu Chuqing's mouth widened, her appearance looking even more likable.
She did not expect her godmother's second sentence to be this.
Coming to her senses, she shook her head and said, "I've been studying abroad the past few years, there's no time for relationships!"
Xu Jiahui gave a satisfied smile and held Mu Chuqing's hand. "It's time for you to settle down. It must be very lonely for you to be single and alone for so long!"
Mu Chuqing's face showed some awkwardness before saying, "For matters relating to relationships, it's better to go with the flow."
Xu Jiahui stared at her intensely. "Alright. Anyway, you are all young. Indeed, the emperor is not worried, but his eunuchs are worried to death!"
"Godmother?"
Mu Chuqing called out softly after realizing that Xu Jiahui's tone was not right.
Snapping out of her trance, Xu Jiahui said, "Don't worry, Chuqing. Let us have dinner tomorrow, accompany me, alright!"
Mu Chuqing would naturally not reject. She nodded her head.
Smiling, Xu Jiahui said, "Go ahead and do your work, I'll give you a call tomorrow!"
"Sure!"
After she sent Xu Jiahui to the company's entrance, the duo had a little chat before Mu Chuqing was hurried by Xu Jiahui to go back to work.
Xu Jiahui sat in her car with a darkened face, she whipped out her phone.
The call got through immediately. "Hello Madam!"
Xu Jiahui's face darkened even more as she almost bellowed, "Where's that brat?!"
