Xi Hua was taken aback by Chen's question. Why did she want to know that?
Hua pursued her lips and turned her head away. And Yu Chen, getting the sign, asked no further.
Chen had already started her laptop and was about to go in her 'frenzy' as Huo Zenghai called it and 'speedy mode' as Chen called it when Xi Hua spoke, "Si Xia did not even notice you had fainted."
Yu Chen felt like an arrow had stuck her heart. Si Xia had not even noticed she had fainted right outside his door? Did he really not love her now?
But when she looked up, Chen's face betrayed no emotions. She asked, her voice even, a little too even, "Who found me then? I'm hoping not the one who comes to pick up the trash in the morning." She chuckled lightly at her own joke.
Xi Hua looked at Chen and her heart ached. She hated this Chen, the one that was always masking her emotions. She would have preferred if Chen had flown into a rage or broken down crying.
"No. Oreo found you around midnight." Xi Hua said in a small voice.
"Of course. Oreo would never forget me." Yu Chen said in a melancholy voice and focused her attention back on the laptop.
Xi Hua began, "You must not think like that Chen. Xia was really worried as he brought you to the hospital."
"He was?" Chen said, typing away on her laptop.
"Yeah....." Xi Hua said. She was silent for a few minutes before she began again, "Chen?"
"Hmm?" Yu Chen replied.
"You... don't you..... aren't you..." Xi Hua struggled for words.
Yu Chen cut in, "Say Hua, aren't you tired? Get some sleep. I'll wake you up if I need something."
Xi Hua closed her mouth and looked at Chen.
Was she really giving up? Was Chen really giving up on Si Xia? After all she had done, after all she had gone through? She was giving up now?
With these thoughts, Xi Hua went to the sofa and lay down.
The only sound apart from the two's breathing was the tick-tock of the clock and Chen's rythmic typing. Listening to these sounds, Xi Hua let her mind wander and soon fell asleep.
Yu Chen sighed after an hour and put her hand on her forehead. Her laptop had been something which would always distract her. She would always forget everything else when she had laptop open in front of her. But today, even that did not seem to be working. Xia's nonchalant face as he seemed tired of her swam in front of her eyes. His words, "I just want to be alone." and "Go home Chen." rung in her ears.
Chen sighed as she pinched her nose. She fought back tears and shook her head as the same Xia from a different time swam in her mind. That time when he had told her he was marrying Yuan Zuan. That was the exact same face he had made at that time.
Chen pinched her cheek. "You decided you would not give up this time. Not unless he himself told you he did not want you." Chen said to herself.
"But he did tell you to leave him alone." A small voice whispered in Chen's mind.
