Hazel hadn't intended on picking up Eva's call since she was still a wreck after talking to Carlos but did at the last second. Maybe she was finally going to apologize for the things she said before and try to repair their friendship.

The last thing she had expected was seeing her husband standing right next to John Abramson. It became quite obvious what had happened. Will's business had included getting rid of him for some reason.

Eva had called and trapped him by calling Hazel, the one person who might be able to prevent him from doing what he was about to do. That was rather quick thinking on her part.

She was crushed with disappointment, both at how easily Will lied to her about why he was there and by the fact that Carlos had been right about him to some degree. It wasn't that she cared what happened to Abramson—she hated the man, after all—but she couldn't believe how easily the man she loved could jump to murder.
