Adam followed the same schedule for two weeks: going to school in the morning and hunting monsters at night. Though, he didn't dare go deep in the forest so as not to encounter D rank beasts or above. As for E rank beasts, they no longer represented a threat to him: he has even won against two E rank beasts at once several times. His fighting skills also improved as he became more familiar with the sword. He is now a nine stars E ranker and has 63000$ in his bank account.
One day, when he was selling the dead beasts' parts at the market, an E rank quest poster caught his attention. It was about killing the goblins near Frost village. The reward was a low-class combat skill.
As the following day was the weekend, Adam decided to complete the quest. He had never had a combat skill before, so he was so excited about the reward.
In the morning, he told his mother he is going to Frost village with his friend to participate in a snowboarding competition.
"I didn't know my son was a snowboarding athlete who participates in competitions. I am so proud of you, son. But you are not going anywhere. Do you think I'm a fool to believe that? "
"You can ask my friend Yassmine, she will come with me. She is the one paying for the tickets."
"OK, give me the phone. You better not lie to me again."
"Hi, Mrs.smith how are you today?" Yasmine said.
"I'm fine, sorry for calling you early in the morning. I just wanted to check if you are going with my son to Frost village?"
"Yes, of course. Is he not coming?"
Adam stole the phone from his mother's hand and said: "No, I will be at the train station in a thirty-minute. See you there." then he ended the call.
"Mom you shouldn't embarrass me like that. Now she will think I always lie to you so you needed to check." Adam pretended to be angry so his mom asks no more questions. This one of Adam's secret strategies.
"I am sorry, I have been paranoid because of your repeated retards every night in the past couple of weeks. I was afraid you'll put yourself in danger."
As soon as he left home, Adam called Yassmine again:" Thanks for saving me there. I couldn't tell my mom I am going to Frost Village to complete a quest."
"Quest? What Quest? You haven't told me about it."
"I found it last night in the hunter's market. I will tell about it at school. Anyway, you don't have to come to the train station."
"Don't be silly. If I don't go that means I'm a liar."
"What? No, it could be dangerous."
"Says the cripple. Don't worry I won't touch your reward. See you in thirty minutes."
"It's not even about that!" Adam said but she had already hanged up.
After one and a half hours. The train arrived at Frost Village's train station.
"This is my first time traveling with a boy, I think we will have a good time," Yasmine said.
"Do you still remember why we have come here? We have to complete the quest before the sunset. The forest is very dangerous at night."
"I know, I know, but we still have to enjoy our trip. We need to finish this task quickly."
"I still need to buy some weapons. Let's go to the market."
Forst Village's market.
"How much is the healing potion?" Yassmine asked a merchant.
"I usually sell it for 1250$, but for you, I will take only 1200$."
"How dare you trick me, don't you know who I am? These low-rank potions are only for 1000$ in Independence city. let's go, Adam."
"The prices in the villages are always higher than in the city, because of the transport fees."
"Adam? Where the hell did he go?" Yassmine said while looking in every direction for her friend.
In the long cave inside the frozen mountain where the green hideous creatures called goblins with frog palms and crocodile teeth lived, there was a massacre: one human butchering more than a hundred of goblins. Their huge number was of no use in those narrow paths and their frail bodies of below-ranks creatures were cut like butter.
Soon the goblins started to flee in fear and chaos. They stepped on their falling friends as they screamed hysterically. The human continued his hunt without a trace of pity. Dozens of dark shadows were flying toward the human and being absorbed when they reach him. His eyes looked strangely dim as if he was absent-minded.
He killed every goblin he found in his way until he reached a large room at the base of the mountain. The light of his torch extinguished as soon as he stepped into the room. But the human kept heading forward in the dark.
Suddenly the room became lighted again with the torches' flames. The human found himself surrounded by hundreds of goblins.
"Shuwi kanow," a goblin holding a staff said in a strange language, and the goblins started attacking from all directions.
The human swung his sword as fast as he could but the number of goblins rushing to him was very huge. They enveloped him and started to bite like hungry zombies. The human was being eaten alive.
Suddenly the shadows of the dead goblins pierced the goblin's siege and entered the human's body. He started to emit a dense strong aura that made the goblins froze from fear. His body was completely healed in no time, and his muscles started to grow bigger.
"Shuwi kanow," the shaman goblin said again. And the goblins attacked again.
A goblin bit him in the shoulder but he was choked by the toughness of the human's skin. The bite didn't leave even a scratch. It was the power of a D ranker.
Once a D ranker the body will undergo another transformation greater than the one in the E rank. All the body attributes will have a major increase. And there is a small chance of awakening a supernatural ability.
After his transformation, the human was unstoppable. He slew the goblins like a hurricane. as more shadows were absorbed, His eyes became yellow. His hair and his fangs started to grow.
The absent-minded human lost control of himself as his bloodlust increased with every new absorbed shadow. The goblins fell to the ground while shaken uncontrollably.
"Adam stop it. You are losing control." Yasmine shouted behind the man standing on the blood lake then hugged him. "It's ok right now. You have to calm down. You must have been traumatized after killing a living being for the first time."
