章節 4: Guess my race is run

About three days had passed since I killed the wolf, I didn't find all that many other creatures than those wolves, but I did find a tree with fruit. It was odd looking; the fruit was red and had several small spikes protruding from it, looking like chestnut but larger.

The tree was high, so it would be hard to get the fruit, but it wasn't impossible. I hooked my claw into the tree, and then my other claw, hoisted myself up and put my feet against the tree for support, repeating the process to get up.

It didn't take long before I reached a branch with the fruit hanging from it. I grabbed onto the branch with my claws, and like a sloth, I climbed towards the fruit. When the fruit was within reach, I cut the fruit from the branch, and it fell.

The fruit fell into one of the bushes below, but then the branch I was hanging on started cracking. I tried to climb back, but the branch snapped, I tried to grab into the tree to slow my fall, but it was too far away. I looked down, and a green light started shining from the ground.

A large flower grew, with a soft-looking centre that looked like dandelion seeds. I fell onto the flower, unhurt as the flower had cushioned my fall. Just as I wondered where this flower had come from, a voice resounded in my head "What is a small dragon doing tumbling down trees?".

Was the voice talking to me? It was almost like with the wolfs, but I didn't know how to talk back. "The small dragon hasn't learned the speech yet?" The voice waited for a response. "Then let me teach you. Find where my voice is coming from inside your mind; it might help to close your eyes."

As the voice told me, I closed my eyes and started looking for the voice. Inside my mind, I saw a ball of light. It was a green ball of light, and next to the ball were several other balls of light, all in different colours. "I see you have found me; now tell me your intent." The voice said, but it sounded vague. How do you tell someone your intent? Should I try talking to the ball through my mind?

I tried it, "Can you… understand me?" I said to the ball of light, hoping that the voice would be able to hear me.

The ball responded with a resounding, "Yes." I was amazed; I had spoken into someone's mind as if I had telepathy.

"Yes! Finally, someone to talk to. Who are you?" I asked the ball of light.

"Let me show you, open your eyes and follow the blue flowers." I did as the voice told me and started following the flowers that had magically appeared in front of me. It didn't take long for me to find what the flowers were leading me towards.

It was a large tree, but not any large tree; it had a woman inside it. It looked like the tree had grown around the woman, leaving only her face uncovered by the tree's bark. The face inside of the tree looked at me, and the voice resounded in my head,

"I'm Elysia, the dryad, I have sworn to help anybody in need, and I will not harm any who pass through the Forest of Myr or any who have decided to live in it." The woman's voice said.

"That's… quite the introduction… can I ask you something?" I asked.

"Of course!"

"Where is this forest, and how do I get out of it?"

"Straight to the point, but honestly, I don't know. I have been told that this forest is in the middle of a country called Azriel. To get out of this forest, I think you can walk in any general direction, and the forest will end at some point."

"Are there any towns or villages that you know of?"

"Ah, well, I don't know much about things that lay outside the forest, but there is a village up north inside the forest that might know more," She replied, "But little dragon, I wonder, what are you doing in my forest? Shouldn't you be with your Kin?"

"Ah… It's a long story, but all you need to know is that I got lost in this forest."

"That's odd. I didn't feel your presence enter my forest, but here you are…."

"Do you have any food for me?" I said, trying to change the subject. It would be hard to explain that I was revived into this dragon's body. How would I even explain that to someone? I hardly even know what happened myself. It all happened so fast.

"Oh, goodness, you must be starving. There are bushes with edible fruit that way." When Elysia said that, another blue flower path appeared for me to follow. "You can follow the same flower path back to find me."

I followed the flowers, and shortly after, I reached the bushes she was talking about. The berries on the plant were brown in colour and almost looked like a nut. I opened my maw and ripped a few berries from the bush.

They had an interesting taste because they tasted like small kiwis, only a bit sourer. I bit some more of the bush, but while I was enjoying the nostalgic flavour of the berries, I heard something familiar. . I looked in the direction of the sound. There they were, a group of men clad in leather, speaking a language I couldn't understand.

I concentrated on the man, slowly but surely. I started to understand what they were saying. Maybe I could understand them by using the speech that Elysia taught me. "Where are all those exotic animals that they told us about? Do you think they lied to us?" one of the men asked; he seemed very annoyed.

"Nah, they wouldn't dare, knowing who we work for. They're not called exotic for nothing; when we find one, they'll pay us a fortune." The man says These people were poachers! I must get away!
