章節 13: New Territory*
Aoi and Arunika, who have been walking through the wilderness, away from any main roads, for the past few days, finally came upon the Southern Territory. Arunika told Aoi the feudal lord here was probably the strictest when it came to enforcement of laws. This is the territory where the settlement of orphans was when the laws against orphans were enacted, and this lord was the first descendant from the lord of that time.
He was getting on in age, but he still ruled his territory with an iron fist. He didn't believe in retirement or abdication of his position to his descendants until his death. He believed rulers should be rulers for life. Aoi was told that it's best to stay away from the border in this territory because Arunika said that any orphans who get near are suspected on conspiring to abandon the empire and are put to death on sight.
"So where is the best place to settle for the time being in this area, honey?"
"I'll go to the same spot I went last year. It was just a couple kilometers away to the East of where we are now."
"Hrm... I wouldn't go there this time."
"Why's that?"
"Well, if those people who were looking for us are still tracking us then we should probably try finding somewhere to go in the opposite direction or further to the East. All that team would have to do is ask around town and they'd know your identity if you really are as well known as you say you are."
"Why didn't I think of that? Hehe, my wife's so smart!" Arunika hugged Aoi around her shoulders and kissed her cheek. "Let's go all the way to the Eastern side then! That and when it's time to leave this area we can immediately pack up and depart."
"I'll trust your judgement on this then. Let's go. I want to hurry up so we can rest up. I'm getting tired and hungry. From the looks of it, we only have about four to five hours of daylight until nightfall."
"Alright, let's go then," Arunika said smiling, then started in the direction of where their next few months would be spent.

The duo finally arrived at an area that seemed like it would be livable. Aoi conviced Arunika not to settle in the open outside the mountain forest bordering the Eastern territory. They were able to follow a creek that led to a pristine fresh water source inside the forest after a few minutes walk. The area was open but concealed enough that had some mini overhangs above the water.
When they looked around, they found the perfect location under an overhang that had the perfect amount of space to plant the cottage. That and it not only gave privacy but also was away from prying eyes looking for them unless they were directly across the lake or directly upon them.
Once they planted the cottage and finished preparations for living there, it was already nightfall and the moon was hanging in the sky. Aoi noticed the subtle differences in this lunar satellite a few nights ago while they were walking through the forest. It looked to be the same size, which doesn't exactly bode true, because their relative distance could be different. It could be larger but farther away or vice versa. The color was mostly the same but on certain nights you could see that about half of the moon was covered in a shades of red.
'We're obviously in a binary star solar system. I just hope I'm still in the Milky Way galaxy. From the look of the stars in the night sky I can definitely see were at least residing in a disc or spiral galaxy. I don't see any of Earth's known constellations, but that could just simply be because of our position in the galaxy. Man, this sucks... Oh well, I might as well get ready to bathe in the lake here.'
"Hey honey, I feel gross, so I'm going to bathe in the lake. Want to join me when you're done?"
"*gasp* I'm done! I'm done now! Let's go!"

[POV change: Aoi]
As I saw Arunika running over to me from the cottage, I thought I'd give her a little show. I reached down to grab the hem of my linen shirt and pulled it up to take it off. I kept my back to her because honestly I'm not very proud of my stomach. Ever since I've gained a little bit of weight I've had some body image issues. I love myself and I still think I'm hot, but I feel like my flaws glare at me any time I look at myself naked.
I can hear Arunika behind me halt in her steps and I feel like I can hear an almost audible gasp. This is fun. I smirk to myself knowing she's watching me.
