"Easy for you to say! You're out there enjoying with your friends," her mother grumbled. "Ah! Where are the others?"

Katherine's eyes widened comically and she was glad her mother couldn't see her. She worried that her parents had found out and also thought about what she would say. 

"We just reached so everyone is washing up. I called you as soon as I came," she said, hoping that would appease her mother. Her mother seemed happy.

"Is that Katherine?" she heard her father's voice come from the distance. Her mother responded positively. 

The phone was handed over and Katherine heard her father speak. "Kitty, I don't know how to break this to you..."
