Jake was tempted to give a spontaneous answer, but when he seriously addressed the matter, he realized that it was far more complex than the little alien's casual tone suggested.
Of course, it wasn't as if he had never wondered about it. When he got his own bloodline, his first instinct had been to compare himself to others. Xi had been remarkably forthright at the time, allowing him to position himself properly in the bloodline hierarchy.
However, Jake was only an Oracle Sergeant at the time, and the information he had access to was still rather limited. Even with Xi's patient explanations, he had repeatedly found the gradation of certain bloodlines inconsistent.
This is a classification I've been asked about many times and the file has been on my computer for a long, long, long time.
Originally, I had four things planned between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th Ordeal:Kyle's sister's rescue and the focus on the Dungeon Digestors, which took more chapters than I thought it would, Lucia and Gerulf's return joining the Myrtharian Nerds and the resulting changes, more explanation about Bloodlines with Cekt, but also a mini arc where Jake would go to Phirune's Island (the father of the two sisters), who had decided to "sequester" his two daughters until further notice to 'protect' them from Jake. They would have ended up running away on the sly before being recaptured and Jake would have been obliged to show up in person.
To avoid the cliché of the damsel in distress and overly doting and possessive father, and because there were already too many chapters between the two Ordeals, I decided to forego this mini-arc.Maybe for many, this mini-arc would have been a lot better than the one about rescuing Maeve, we'll never know. What is certain is that it would have been much shorter and cliché in its execution.
I may expand on this mini-arc in the future, as Phirune is still harassing Jake for stealing his daughter's first kiss.
