"Ahem…" the lawyer coughed to grab the attention of the couple who turned to him immediately.
He looked at the calm and composed couple and then towards the fuming Jia before he started reading the papers.
He looked down and read, "I, Chung Han, in all my senses am writing this Will which would give my hier the right to inherit my property. Firstly to my wife I leave my villa in the north and five percent of my shares in the company. To my younger daughter Jia Han, I leave the Han family mansion and five percent of my shares in the Han Cooperations."
This made Jia feel extremely happy. She would definitely be able to be the biggest shareholder now and then she would work up her plan. She would trap Steve and use him to stabilize the company's situation. It was a perfect plan.
It was not too soon when her hope was scattered.
"To my elder daughter, I leave my property in the mainland and the other that is in the US with my twenty percent share of the company. I also declare her my next successor to inherit the company, I believe in her that she would be able to get my company to new heights." The lawyer stopped and folded the paper keeping them back in the envelope. Ignoring all the people around him he took out another envelope and was about to pass it to someone when Jia screamed on top of her lungs.
Jia was right now streaming with anger. She could not believe that her own father had given all his property to this slut. And even if he had given it to her she is going to take back everything.
It is true when people say that sometimes people take things for granted and sometimes people become so obsessive that they try every mean-fair or unfair- to get a hold of that thing. Jia was also very possessive of the company and the love of her parents. She was sure that if she failed to acquire the company she would also lose her mother as she was well aware of her mother.
The fear of losing the caring side of her mother she instantly eyed the cup on the table and picked it up before hitting it on the table edge and breaking it into pieces. Some of the sharp edges dropped drop while a larger one was still in her hand.
Everyone around her was shocked and was not excepting the thing she did next.
Jia very swiftly got up from her place and swung the sharp piece in her hand towards Jessica. Having quick reflexes, Steve instantly pulled Jessica closer but it was of no use as the piece still managed to create a scratch on the face of Jessica. It also left a scratch on Steve's hand. This act finally managed to grab the interest of the man but in a negative way.
He firstly bent on one of his knees and looked at the scratch on the face of Jessica. He was very upset as he glanced at the woman who was slightly trembling under his stare. She was sure she had hit the bull's eye and now it was hard to escape this bull.
Steve instantly took some tissues from the small table and wiped off the blood from the scratch. Jessica said nothing and just stared into the eyes of the man. She was searching for his emotions and she was sure that he was extremely upset and angry.
'Would he mind if this left a scar on my face and not marry me…' This thought immediately made her heart shudder with pain and sorrow. If this would happen she would be weaker and maybe will never be able to come back.
But to her surprise, the man stood on his feet and turned towards Jia. His eyes were now cold and fearful. This even made the lawyer shudder and he felt cold as if it was already wintering' temperature in the summers. He was sure that now Jia was done for.
*Pak*
Soon the sound of the slap echoed in the room. Followed by it was the man's cold words, "HOW DARE YOU HURT MY WIFE? I WILL NOT LET THIS OFF EASILY."
Steve's every word represented authority and danger. He was angry that Jia harmed Jessica but he was more upset that he was not able to protect her. If Jia deserved a slap then he deserved a hundred for his dreadful mistake. He had promised to protect his woman well but he just simply failed it. He was feeling a tightness in his chest and felt like crying for the first time in his life.
Suddenly a somewhat warm hand held on to his cold hand. An unknown feeling rose in his heart as he glanced at the hand and then the person to whom the hand belonged.
The sound of the slap bought Jessica back and she subconsciously looked at the two of them. Her eyes fell on Steve's hand which had a small cut on it and blood was oozing out of it. She frowned and got up from her seat and grabbed his hand. she carefully examined the wound and tried to stop the blood with the help of some tissues.
Meanwhile, Steve stared at the woman with his eyes filled with a gentleness which he was also not aware of at the time. The lawyer gave a brief glance to the couple and the girl on their back who was shooting daggers at them. He sighed and got up before he moved to Jessica.
"Ms. Han this is a letter your father left for you. And to claim the ownership please contact me on the number on this card." The lawyer said as he extended his card with an envelope under it.
"You are hurt. Let's go to the hospital." Jessica said as she turned to the door. Worry was clear on her face. She treated all the people like thin air and moved away. Seeing her as this Steve felt somewhat fine and now the heaviness was slowly fading but there was still guilt left.
